cvpends Posted January 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2014 Call us crazy, but we really want to take one of those really long day tours from Miami to Key West before our cruise in June. There are several tours that look about the same, so I'm coming to you for advice. Have any of you taken one or more of these tours, and if so, which one, and would you recommend or not recommend it, and why? http://www.viator.com/tours/Miami/Key-West-Day-Trip/d662-5221KEYWEST http://keywestbustour.com/1-day-from-miami.html http://miamitourcompany.com/key-west-1-day.html Thanks so much! How about just renting a car and doing the drive on your own? The drive to/from the Keys is the best part of the trip. This way you can stop at different spots along the way, at your leisure. BlueHerons Posted January 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2014 This is the only tour company I trust http://www.MiamiBeach411.com and they do a day trip. You can also go by water.

Dear BlueHerons, Thank you so much for your response. I have two questions: 1) What is the reason you prefer and trust this company? 2) Does this company do its own tours, or sell the tours of others? I ask the second question because I notice that the photos are the same for their tour as another tour, so I'm not sure who is selling whose tours. Here are the URL's of the two tours that have the same photos so you can see what I mean. http://secure.miamibeach411.com/miami-to-key-west.html http://miamitourcompany.com/key-west-1-day.html Thanks again! Check with the concierge at your hotel. We did this tour couple yrs ago through the hotel. Leave at 7am back at 11pm - gave us enough time to get a taste of Key West. Plus you leave the driving to someone else. Joanne

We are doing the same day trip during our stay in Feb. due to limited time. You will see on this page (above link) that the 411 and miamitour company are related. So either site books you on the same tour. We are doing this one. And feel confident.

NayRN Posted January 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 12, 2014 As eandj said, they are related. Same company I'm pretty sure. Because I value all the information you are kind enough to share..... Would you recommend doing this as a tour or simply renting a car for the day and driving? I'm torn....I love to drive but wonder what I'll "miss" seeing if I'm the driver. But, I like the freedom of being able to stop along the way if we see something interesting. If we took a tour, we wouldn't have to worry about any directions.....but if we rented a car, I don't think it would be too hard to find our way!! See....confused as usual! Thanks BlueHerons....you've helped me tremendously with all my Miami questions throughout the years!!:D
eandj Posted January 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) We are using the bus this time just for the convenience of not having to drive and getting to watch the world go by. As well as familiarize ourselves with the drive and area. Later this year we are meeting family in Key West for a two day stay before heading to a Carib excursion wedding. Then we'll drive it to and from Miami and make our stops along the way. Edited January 12, 2014 by eandj

BlueHerons Posted January 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Wow that is a tough question! We love driving because we usually have our chairs and the cooler in the car and love to stop and go for a swim. I'd drive. You cannot get lost, it's nearly impossible. Just head south on the Turnpike and take Card Sound Road. Stop at Alabama Jacks for a beer and a burger. Enjoy the drive, stop where you want. Lots of people like to rent a convertible but if you do, don't forget the sunblock!

phoenix_dream Posted January 14, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Yes, four hours in each direction. Not a very relaxing day IMHO but I guess if you are dying to see Key West.......Personally, I would take a ride out to the Everglades instead. I love to go out to Billie Swamp Safari and the Ah-Tha-Tiki museum (not sure if I got the spelling right). A lot closer and a lot of fun.
cvpends Posted January 15, 2014 Author #22 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Thanks so much for all the information and the advice, everyone! I would love to hear from someone who has done one of these tours. For example, when they say it is guided, what does that mean? Do they talk to you on the way down to tell you what you are looking at? Do they give you a tour of Key West? Also, do you stop at any other keys?
