peternina Posted February 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2014 It looks like the Splendor has parked in Charleston...is that a scheduled stop or is she seeking safe harbor. The Carnival Splendor is scheduled to arrive in New York Thursday morning at 8AM.?
jenny105 Posted February 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2014 Something about an emergency medical issue with someone in the crew. http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140211/PC05/140219869/1010/carnival-cruise-ship-making-emergency-stop-at-port-of-charleston-today
peternina Posted February 11, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I was tracking the Splendor as I am getting on her on Thursday. My first thought was they were "seeking safe harbor" from the impending storm. However after calling Carnival it was explained there was an emergency and the Coast Guard could not evacuate so the ship went Charleston Harbor to evacuate. According to Carnival she should arrive on time in New York on Thursday. Phewwwww!!!!!

Ocean Dancer Posted February 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) A major noreaster is threatening the East coast Wed into Thursday night. Depending on how the storm tracts, expect several inches of snow, rain, winds and power outages. Traveling on Wed and spending the night somewhere is highly suggested. Have a great cruise and get out of this terrible weather! Prayers to the crew member. Edited February 12, 2014 by Ocean Dancer

cjknox Posted February 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2014 Usually its pretty serious if they divert from the planned cruise route, hopefully the crew member recovers from whatever ailment they are experiencing.

cv322 Posted February 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 13, 2014 On the local NYC news they've been having live weather-related news items all morning...and a little while ago a reporter was outside mid-town, & you could see the whale tail in the distance behind her....in all the snow coming down. I hope everyone who's cruising today makes it safe & sound. ;)

OCruisers Posted February 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 13, 2014 T&P for the crew member. The Medical University of SC is located in Charleston so he should be in good hands. Wishing all passengers a safe trip home from NYC. LuLu
