gretnagirl Posted February 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Pardon the repetition if this question has been asked, but is Celebrity airing the Sochi Olympics on their ships? I'll be on the Summit next week and the men's gold medal hockey game is scheduled for Sunday, February 23rd and there's a good chance that the Canadian team will be playing in it. Being a proud Canadian, it's basically a requirement of my citizenship that I watch the game. So, will I be able to watch it somewhere? I'm not expecting it to be shown in the same manner as the Super Bowl, but perhaps in a smaller venue than the theatre? Can anyone comment on events being shown onboard from the previous week? Thanks!
JimHam4 Posted February 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2014 On our recent Constellation cruise the Olympics were very limited. The only channel on the television carrying them was either CNBC or MSNBC (can't remember which channel of the two we had). We didn't have NBCSports or NBC for the main broadcasts. daisy-mae Posted February 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I wouldn't count on it. We cruised during the Stanley Cup finals one year and were unable to get anything but a brief mention during the morning sports roundup from the night before. He has two rescue sisters, a ten year old boxer we've had forever and a three year old English bulldog we just added to the menagerie.

I wasn't a dog person until my son adopted him, now I think that mini schnauzers are the cat's meow. ;)
eclipse2011 Posted February 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2014 Just off the reflection and there was not really any Olympic coverage onboard, I was hoping there would be some. Having said that, and we do like watching the Olympics, we did not have much time to miss it.
micmacmissy Posted February 16, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2014 Just off Silhouette and no Olympics. One day they out out an Olympic newsletter with highlights but that was it!
kitty9 Posted February 16, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2014 NO !!!!!!!! And there are a lot of hacked off passengers on board. Many have asked numerous times, but were told no, not even in the casino. It's not even on MSNBC or CNBC. The last Winter Olympics in Vancouver was shown when we were on Solstice, so I don't know why they won't show even some of it. Lots of Canadians on board who want to see hockey, but they refuse. It sucks, because you know the reason is money----people watching TV aren't out spending money. Bad move on the part of Celebrity.
MisterBill99 Posted February 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) Bad move on the part of Celebrity. I think the problem is that they're likely showing the international versions of MSNBC and CNBC and Olympics programming rights are sold on a country basis, so I'd be surprised if those channels have any coverage (I was also on Silhouette last week and I know that when I checked, I did not see Olympic coverage on either NBC channel). Anyway, I wonder how they would be able to license Olympic rights for the cruise ship given that they're crossing multiple countries? Are other cruise lines are doing a better job? kevinyork Posted February 16, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2014 Glad they are not showing it given Russia's appalling stance on gay rights. Why support such a backward society. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Tony Villano Posted February 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I hope they put the gold medal game on. Hoping for USA vs. Canada. Haven't been on Celebrity for a few years. No game would be a big minus. Especially if the other lines have it. Of course, it won't matter again until 2018.

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app I assume you will not be booking with NCL anymore since they chartered the Jade to a Russian company so it could be used as a floating hotel?
