Tip Question (Sorry)

First off, I have already prepaid tips and I have no desire to remove them.

I was wondering what the average tipping "in cash" amount is? For instance I often see Room Service is tipped $2. What about your daily for the room steward? Waiter? etc?

Room service? Maybe 2 bucks. All others, none. They have been tipped.

The prepaid tips cover your cabin stewards, food service crew and some behind the scenes crew.

15% is added onto any bar item you purchase.

Spa, casino, Kids Club and room service aree not part of the prepaid/auto tips and are tipped at time of service. We have tipped the kid's counselors a the end of the cruise.

If you have pre-paid your tips then your room steward and waiters have been taken care of as to the suggested amount. If I get excellent service from my room steward I may tip extra at the end of the cruise. It has been from $20 - $50 (The $50 was in a suite and the steward was the best I have ever had) on top of the tips that are automatically added to the account( or prepaid)

We leave the prepaid tips on and usually give each of the waiters and room stewards an extra $10-20 if the service has been excellent, which it usually is. We don't usually tip the maitre d unless he/she has provided a direct service to assist us.

The bar waiters who are our "regulars" get another $10 each at the end of the cruise. If we are getting complimentary drinks in the casino we usually tip $1 for every drink and we might tip some extra cash ($1 every few drinks) to bar waiters if we have Cheers.

We usually tip the room steward an extra $20 at the end of our cruise per cabin. It's harder with anytime dining, we had a great team last summer but the last two days we couldn't get seated in their section and I couldn't find the waiter to be able to give him a little extra in appreciation.

We leave the autotips on and are willing to tip extra in cash if someone does something exceptional that is above and beyond expectations for the position. For example, I would not tip the steward for opening the divider between my balcony and our kids' adjoining balcony. That is just an expectation and well within his expected duties.

Since auto tips were first implemented, we tipped an MDR waiter once. It was 20 euros. I have never had a staff member do anything so exceptional that I thought it was deserving of an additional cash tip.

Thank you for the input.

What I was looking for is the amount cash tippers normally tip per day, assuming I did not have prepaid tips set up :)

Thanks!

They usually cheat hard workers out of wages by not tipping the requested amt. Don't be one of those, please.

No, actually what I'm saying is I plan to "double" tip. They will get the prepaid tips plus whatever cash amount we figure to tip per day. The cash amount is what I'm trying to figure out.

My husband spent some early years trying to earn a living in the service industry, we tend to tip highly.

The tips are going to automatically appear on your account regardless. So unless you plan on going to guest services and telling them to be completely removed - you're paying them. A lot tip in addition.

Having said that, on Carnival site they list the breakdown of the allotted $11.50 per day. I don't think realistically anyone could tip each person directly.

For your convenience, we automatically charge the gratuities for dining and stateroom staff to your onboard Sail & Sign account. The total amount is $11.50 per guest, per day (our recommended guideline) as follows:

$ 3.70 Per Day Stateroom Services

$ 5.80 Per Day Dining Room Services

$ 2.00 Per Day Alternative Services: distributed to other kitchen and hotel service staff

Our Staff is totally committed to exceed your expectations in every way possible. If you have any concerns about the service you receive any time during your cruise, please contact the Guest Services desk while onboard. This will allow us to address your concerns in a timely and appropriate fashion. At your discretion, you may adjust the gratuities at any time while onboard. Gratuities will be deemed undisputed unless a request to modify is received prior to disembarking the ship.

For beverage purchases, fifteen percent of the bill is automatically added. Room Service may be tipped as service is rendered. Tipping your Maître d’ is at your discretion, based upon the service you receive.

In addition to the prepaid tips, we usually give $10 to the stateroom steward the first night and another $10 the last night. We give additional tips to the MDR wait staff $20 each and the maitre'd depending on service. On top of the 15% tip added to bar service I have given additional tips depending on the service I receive.

I just cruised with a group of 8 in 2 rooms that included my not so lovely grandmother. We tipped our steward $80 for the week and our waiter $65. He shared some of it with our assistant waiter while we were still in the dining room. I felt they went above and beyond dealing with 8 picky women.

I assume you meant above and beyond the auto gratuity?

Yes that's what I mean. If you knew my grandmother, you'd understand. I'm pretty sure she's one the grumps who's on here all the time complaining.

I don't tip extra to those already in the auto tipping pool, feel free to do so if you want. If you feel you want to tip above the amount you have tipped on your daily auto charge then only you can decide how much. There is no average, most people feel they met their responsibility and leave it at that so anything you give will be happily accepted.

Im sure the AVERAGE tipping is the gratuities carnival puts on the sail and sign, which is $11.50 pp/day. We tip $1/plate of food or beverage to room service, $20 to room steward, the first day. $20 more at the end if they keep the ice bucket full. Also, DH tips the waiter or waitress in the club $10 additional everynight.

Then the math is easy. Auto tip is $11.50/day so you cash tip the poor souls $11.50 per day.

We left ours on autotips, but left $60 for our wonderful room steward in cash, and $20 for our waiter.... (we only ate in the MDR 3 of the five nights, but they brought us amazing cake & sang! :D ) We tipped room service $3-$4 per trip. We also tipped 15%-ish on drinks, in addition to the amount added in to the bill.

At the time, we were partially living on tips ourselves, so we know how it can be. It's much harder than people realize. I'm very appreciative of your gesture. Hope you have a wonderful time! :)

Is there anyone that isn't included that you would have to tip in cash?
