louhun88 Posted March 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Im looking at a cruise departing Southampton at the beginning of July and was wondering if anyone who has sailed at this time before could give me an idea of how many kids were onboard? WetToes Posted March 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2014 I've never done this particular cruise, but I suspect they'll be quite a few. It is summer. ;)

louhun88 Posted March 3, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 3, 2014 That's what is putting me off! I know that's the start of the Scottish school holidays but not sure about England/Wales?

jammer1000 Posted March 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Hi Lou Welsh school holidays start Sat July 19th, English schools either the same or mid week the following week. I doubt you'd get many over 11s on an early July cruise but you might find a fair few primary school aged children taken out of school early if prices are cheaper. SadmanCruiser Posted March 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2014 First couple of weeks in July generally have quite a small no of kids. Late July and August are English school holidays when the numbers are a lot higher. We've done a couple of early July cruises and the number of youngsters has not been a problem. TBone2K Posted March 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2014 I've been on many spring break and Christmas cruises (hence lots of kids) and never noticed it to be a problem. The only thing that may have been intrusive was the number of kids in the pool, but the crew was usually good about keeping things under control. When that was not the case we just headed for the solarium.
Rare BillOh Posted March 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Hundreds! Doesn't Indy sail from there in the summer? With a Freedom class I would think it might easily go to 1000+ Edited March 3, 2014 by BillOh typo
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted March 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2014 UK private schools finish earlier than the state sector. Also, exams will be over by end June..... suggest avoiding July if you want few children....
louhun88 Posted March 3, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Maybe not the best idea for a cruise in July, why do the best itineraries have to be then?!
Bizzie07 Posted March 3, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Definitely hundreds. We cruise this time every year as we have a teenage daughter. Don't be put off as you don't really notice the kids
WetToes Posted March 3, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 3, 2014 I don't cruise during the holidays, but I've found this too, that you don't notice. Have been surprised quite a few times at finding how many kids were onboard. I think for the most part, they are kept well occupied.
