Final Payment Date. What happens next?

Today is the final payment date for my June cruise and my payment has been in for 2 weeks. But I was wondering what happens next. Will rooms that had previously been listed as "sold out" become available? Does the Upgrade Fairy start waving her magic wand after this date? Do prices drop or do they go up? Just wondering if this a major milestone or not.

Thanks for your input!

At the final payment date, all the price adjustments (except for Early Saver) get shut off -- nobody booked under another promotion can apply for lower prices or OBC related to a price drop.

TAs or organizations that hold a block of cabins all have to release unsold units back to the cruiseline for sale.

Some of the cabin categories start offering lower prices for guaranteed cabins, expecting a fair amount of shifting around. After the final payment date, you can still upgrade by paying the difference in fares.

The upgrade fairy is really the upsell fairy... and it's unpredictable. They sometimes offer a great deal, but it's more often just a slight discount on the published fare for a specific category, and you never know when or if you'll get a call.

If I correctly understand your comment about no added discounts after final payment, I beg to differ.

Our TA just got the cruise line to honor a special deal for new bookings AFTER our final payment had been made. We know it wasn't the TA eating the difference because the price drop came as a cruise line refund to our credit card and the addition if free gratuities to their contract with us. Total savings on just that accommodation exceeded $1,000. And this is on top of a previous price drop adjustment and TA OBC. Kudos to great TAs, especially ours!

If you are new to cruise shopping, I highly recommend finding an actual Cruise Specialist located in a real brick and mortar setting (though they should also have a website for ease of browsing and comparison.
