Getaway main pool adult only?

I have NO problem with an adult pool, let me say it again NO problem. I have a problem with the MAIN pool being adults only. Now I don't know how you do things but my daughter is a part of my family and I enjoy spending time with her so I WILL not drop her off at a daycare for some alone time. This is a family vacation.

I will not take the bait and make this personal.

What I will say is that there are hundreds of families who utilize the services of the kids club each and every cruise. No doubt they choose to do so for many different reasons. Probably the number one reason is that they are fun for the kids. The children can participate in activities geared to their age. They can make new friends. They can have a little independence. I imagine most parents do not consider it 'daycare' but as an opportunity and an experience for their children. For those that do think of it as daycare that is their choice. The fact that there is then time for the parent to have some alone time or time as a couple is thought by many to be a positive thing.

Parents who have their children go to the kids club are just as much on a family vacation as you are. It does not make them any less as a parent. I am sure they love spending time with their children also. If someone chooses to spend the entire vacation with their child that is their choice but it does not make them a better parent than those that do not.

This thread though is about the pools. There are two pools of similar size situated mid ship deck 15. The family pool is located in one area close to the kids splash pad. The adult only pool is not far away and is located close to the bar and the bandstand. I think NCL did a good job of utilizing the space available for everyone. I understand you do not feel the same way. You would prefer to be in the pool area close to the music. Many other families might prefer an area to enjoy the pool with their children away from the music. You cannot please everyone 100% of the time. Apparently this set up works very well for NCL as they keep repeating it on their ships.

Wishing you a wonderful family vacation.

My only problem is that it is the main pool and I think the main pool should be inviting to everyone. Childless adults do have spice h2o and multiple quiet sun decks. I have cruised 3 times childless and this will be my first time cruising with kids. I have never had an issue with kids being around even before I had kids of my own. When my husband and I have wanted to be away from the noise we have found a quiet deck or gone to the adults only area.

Again I did not mean for this thread to turn into a debate. I completely agree there should be an adults only area just not the main pool that is the center of the pool deck.

Kaylie I do understand what you are saying about there being quiet areas for childless adults.

What I do not understand is where are adults supposed to go to swim without children?

I believe that was a design flaw when this ship was built. I guess they thought the hot tubs and water feature in spice were enough. It is my understanding that children were allowed in the main pool until the recent tragedy on breakaway. So if it were not for that adults would still be sharing this pool with children just as you would if you were staying at a land resort.

I was of the understanding that it was always meant as an adult pool but it is only since the tragedy occurred that it has been enforced. I don't think a pool of this depth with no graded slope was ever meant for children. Hot tubs are not meant as mini splash pools for children either but are often treated as such. Unfortunately it often takes tragedies to occur to bring about change.

Ideally, in my mind, a centrally located pool close to entertainment and activities could be adult only in the mornings and evenings and then be open to everyone in the afternoons. The problem with anything like this though is that it gets more difficult to enforce the times. There will always be someone who is not happy. This would not apply to the Breakaway/Getaway design as it is too deep to begin with to truly be family friendly.

Some land resorts do have adult only pools. Just as most public pools also have different times for adult and family swim time. It's just impossible to be everything to everyone 100% of the time.

I am a member at a yacht club and the pool is divided (including the lounge chairs) half is labeled adults area and half is labeled children's area. The funny thing is when you walk in and there is no more room on the child side I go to the adult side and of course sometimes an adult will complain that there are kids on "their side". But I always will find that there are childless adults sitting on the kids side and no staff will dare tell them to move for the people with children. I feel once there is a label childless adults get a sense of power and in turn it causes more problems.

From the pictures I have seen, the adult pool and the family pool are on the same deck and are the same size. I'm not sure what you mean by the "main" pool. I am not looking for a quiet sundeck; I want to be in the pool or around it, having some foofoo drinks, and listening to the band. Not only do I not want small children around playing marco polo and doing cannonballs; but some of the stuff I have seen around the pool is not suitable for children.

If anyone has the power, it is the parents with children. Imagine if an adult tried to go to the kid's pool or their play areas. Do you think they would be allowed to stay for long? All the childless adults want is a place to also go and "play". I think that's fair.

I do not understand her either. THERE ARE TWO POOLS OF THE SAME SIZE. One has music, bars, dancing, adult games, SMOKING, etc...etc....The other one is FAMILY ORIENTED. What is sooooooo difficult to understand??????

I think the the adult pool was switched back and forth on our cruise on the BA in November. I recall seeing kids in the pool at certain times, and I also recall there being what looked to be a somewhat temporary sign saying ADULTS ONLY at other times. Maybe the drowning changed things?

Either way, I have yet to see someone post anything negative about the adult pool after returning from a BA or GA cruise. The only negativity I see is from those who have yet to sail. Those with small children will LOVE the splash area on the ships. The older kids will be just as happy with the kids pool, which is close to the other water activities. None of them are going to miss anything by not using the pool by the bar.

I had my five children on the cruise, and it was never an issue. They mostly liked the slides.

ETA - I looked up pictures, and the adult pool isn't actually the "main" pool - one half of the pool deck is the adult pool/bar/stage, and the other half is slides/kid pool/splash area/baby pool. They're equal.

No need to get hyper. I have simply stated that all cruise ships I have ever been on have had a main pool that was the center of the activities and for this pool to be adult only does not make sense to me. The kid pool that is on the same deck is tucked away beneath a slide with no space for chairs around it.

I looked at the dailies and am confused as to what adult games you are referring to. What is listed in the dailies is ring toss, bean bag toss and music. There is a sexy leg competition that I can see you saying could be adult only but I can't imagine it being to inappropriate because the pool itself is adult only not the area.

As far as a bar being there. Seriously I mean then maybe I can't take my kids to the restaurants either because they serve alcohol there as well.

I was under the impression that there was an enclosed designated smoking area on the pool deck and that smoking was not allowed around the pool. But for that I might as well not take my children into the atrium because apparently you can smell smoke from the casino.

As far as dancing I thought people of all ages including children were allowed to dance.

I came on here to find out if the main pool is really adult only. I got the answer. I don't agree with it and believe it was a poor design. I understand why childless adults would love this and respect that.

I will be enjoying my cruise in a few weeks at the kid pool with no lounge chairs and will also enjoy watching the poolside games with my children from the jacuzzis.

Thank you that is exactly the answer I was looking for as long as everyone is happy that is all that matters.

I guess I think of it as a main pool because of the band and games and on other ships I have been on it has been referred to as that.

I can't speak for the GA or the BA, but last summer on the Dawn the pool games were definitely "R" rated. They had a "bootie" contest where most of the contestants were females around 20 years old. Almost every one of them went right up to the judges and shook their butts in the judges' faces. A couple of them even sat in their laps and did a grind. It was certainly not appropriate for the young set, but that's for you to decide as a parent.

I cruise the GA in October. I will be a 35 year old male, how do people sign up to be a judge?

As long as they're the jacuzzis by the family pool area. The other area is adults only.

I know you've seen these in person, but for those that haven't. The "adults only" pool is the first picture. The family pool is the second picture. As I said before, it seems like the family pool isn't conducive to supervising minors who are swimming unless you are actually in the pool, due to the walls around it and lack of an area to really hang out and observe. That seems weird to me, but whatever. Also, this makes it look like the family pool is much smaller, but you've been there and I haven't, so obviously I'm wrong.

Also, as far as the music, bars, dancing, adult games, etc... From everything I've seen, it's not an ADULTS ONLY area, just the pool itself is adults. So the kids can feel free to hang out and enjoy all of those things with their parents. :D

I'm pretty sure the childless adults wouldn't be to happy if the pools were reversed:)

I am on the Getaway now, and the main pool is definitely adults only. It's very nice, too. This is the first NCL cruise where we could actually use the main pool! I hope they stick to this! It has been very peaceful this week by the pool.

Could you verify if there is a "best booty" contest and if there is how to become a judge?

Thanks!

:p

What about the 4 jacuzzis surrounding the main pool? Are all 4 adults only?

No, not at all. There are always kids in two of the jacuzzis. I never noticed them in the other two though. Also, the area itself is not adults only - just the main pool.
