Interior Stateroom Selection on Grand Princess cruise to Hawaii

On our last cruise (which was RT Hawaii but on the Golden), we stayed in an inside on the Aloha deck (I think it was A732), that was just a few cabins away from the door to the aft deck. We really liked it as we can go out that door and have a great view on that deck, and we could go up those little stairs and be at the back entrance of the Horizon. I had wanted another midships (our first couple of Hawaiian cruises were a midships Caribe inside on the Island and an midships Emerald OV on the Golden) as I tend to get motion sickness, but the aft was fine. I just wouldn't be able to stand a far forward on this itinerary.

I love A745 - right at the back door!!!:)

I agree, I would take Aloha in the 600-700's, close to the aft doors to the Terrace Pool and one deck up to the HC. ;)

I agree with you both, that this is a great location on Grand Class ships. Unfortunately, on the Grand it is not. I was just on the Grand for the March 15 sailing out of SF. On both the port and starboard sides of the aft hallways, from about cabin A720 aft, there was a terrible musty/moldy/mildew smell that lingered the whole week.

It's obvious that it is an ongoing issue. In fact, I could not be in my cabin (A748) because mold was also inside my cabin, and I am allergic to molds. I eventually got moved to a different cabin.

They are having water pipe leaks in many areas on the Grand. In the Horizon Court (right above my cabin) there were buckets set up to catch leaks. There was also evidence of prior leaks that could be seen in the ceilling tiles, and down the wall. Also, in the main theater, near the front of the stage (starboard side) was the same moldy/mildewy smell that was in the aft hallways on the Aloha deck. Just a word of warning for those who may book those cabins.

I love, love, love the Lido deck. It is quiet and very little traffic. I am weird in that I don't like a bunch of people walking past my cabin especially late at night when I want to sleep.

Now just to add a new wrinkle to this post (I am the OP) - Currently booked in P239, now P319 has just opened up due to a cancellation. This one is even closer to the Piazza and IC for DH's coffee.

Has anyone stayed in this area? It is right under the casino and at the end of a grouping of staterooms beside a hallway door.

I am hoping for a quick reply, so will also post this as a new thread.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have stayed in P319 on another ship and it was VERY quiet, and much closer to the piazza. There is less traffic than having to go the extra way to P239, which takes you past the elevators and a couple of attendants carts (which always seem to be there), as well as the extended "art" gallery. Keep in mind that the hallway towards P331 will not get you to the Piazza, as it ends in Alfredo's. I would definitely take P319!

Am posting here as it is the closest thread I can find for my problem. Today I got an e-mail from Princess informing us that we have been given an UPGRADE for our October Mexican cruise on the Grand. We had booked an inside forward cabin on Carib (deck 10) #C245; they have now moved us up to Baja (11) midship to B425. This is directly behind the panoramic lift... While I like Baja, book it often, and midship is an upgrade for location and price catagory I'd really like to hear from anyone who has been in any cabin that backs up to the central elevators. I need to decide if we want to keep the newly offered cabin by next week.

Thanks for any input you may be able to give.

We are also insiders on this cruise. Never cruised before, so really have no opinion on which is better, but we did get a minor "upgrade" email yesterday, moving us from D723 (near the rear of the ship) to P331, which is very close to the Piazza. Looks good to me. They could "upgrade" us anywhere and we would have no idea if it was an improvement or not. We will simply take what they give us and be happy.

Just excited to be trying our first cruise.

If the cabin shares a wall with an elevator, don't take it.

Lots of shaft noise and clanging.

Mud shark, you will love that location. It is quiet, and close to everything.

I would stay in 239! You are not talking about but a few feet and it is so quiet in the 200's!

Gwen,

You have questions unanswered in the thread about things to pack for Alaska. We can't figure out which Bellini bag you mentioned!

  • 4 weeks later...

My bag that I love is called the Messenger Bag and it is made by Bagallini - google it - you can buy from Amazon or direct from them. You can also pick them up on ebay. Mine just got washed from my 26 day cruise to the Baltics. Looks like new and is 3 years old!

We've been on this cruise 4 times and love the inside cabins on deck 12 aft near the Terrace Pool. We can walk down the hall and up a few stairs to be at the pool and up one flight outside stairs and be at the buffet.
