What would you do

So I booked a 3 night cruise on the Pearl in a penthouse balcony suite. Out of Miami I live in NJ. Got a great price for DH and myself. Cruise is not till October 17.

So my brain won't stop lol. I was checking out other cruises. One being on the Breakaway 7 nights for December 14. The same price for a balcony cabin as I got for 3 nights suite on the Pearl (not a suite) the price of the suite is about $1,000 more so not terrible. I go through CAS so pricing is pretty good. I just can't decide what to do. What would you do?

I wouldn't shlep to Miami for a weekend when I could go for a week in my own backyard, I turned down a freebie from CAS last month for the Getaway as I can't be bothered traveling to Florida when I live in NYC and the Breakaway is almost 95% the same exact ship.

7 over 3? Fly or not fly?

It's a no brainier for me.

I'd take the 7 day.

THEN I'd keep looking to see if I could find a 9 day for about the same price! LOL I'm at the point where 7 days don't seem long enough anymore.

simple math - 7 is better than 3. I'm with Harriet. I'd keep looking for a 9 day. 3 days is not a cruise, it's a weekend...;)

Agree 100%. I can barely stand getting off after 7 days. They would have to drag me off after only 3!

I have a work a holic DH as well! I have found that cruising is the ONLY way to get him to unplug from work for a week. He can't check email or make phone calls because I refuse to pay for the internet while on the ship. He goes off the grid (now when we are in port, you can bet he's scoping out for Wifi). But sometimes, we have to do what's best for our spouses by forcing them to relax. Because, let's face it, some won't do it on their own! And after the initial 24 hour withdrawal, he actually relaxes and has a great time.

So, I vote for the 7 day as well:D

Thanks everyone I know 7 is better than 3. My mission now is to convince my workaholic DH about the 7 days.

No problem. You'll need to fly in at least the day before anyway, so that's 4 days. That means you'll also need to pay for a hotel the night before and possibly service from the hotel to the airport.

Now, you can try and tell him you'll have to leave the day after....which would then be 5 days....and another night at the hotel.

Either way, the cost of the flight and the night at the hotel the day before you cruise, even if it only comes out to 4 days....the extra money it'll cost will only make him want to work even more to 'get it back!'.

LOL Good luck!

I truly do not mean to hijack a post here, but, I have a question regarding CAS. We have now cruised with NCL three times, with two more scheduled. We are video pokers players and have fed a very generous sum into these machines (and I'm not talking about hundreds here, more than that) yet we have never heard from CAS. Never been offered a free cruise, a dinner or even a fruit bowl for that matter. What are we doing wrong? We get our CAS card every cruise and use it for every single push of a button. I just don't get it.

As for your original question OP, I am in the 7-day camp as well. I would always take quantity (days) over quality (in cruising, not necessarily in life). While we do tend to cruise in suites, it is always for a week (or longer). After you figure in airfare, possible hotel expense, etc, it just isn't as cost effective to go for a lesser time. If you are one of the lucky ones and can drive to a nearby port in under, say 3-4 hours, totally different story. Then the 3- and 4-day cruises would be a definite draw.

You need to contact CAS when you want to take your next trip and ask them what, if anything, they will offer you.

I took my first NCL cruise this past March. (No Workaholic DH was not with me lol) I called them when I got back to see what I could get. Balcony comp on 3 day and oceanview on 7 day. Not to shabby. All you have to do is ask.

I figured out what I'm going to do. We are waiting for the NFL draft may 8-10. My son is in the mix to be drafted or at least a free agent contract. So I am going to wait until May 10 and see what happens and what kind of contract he gets. He can't forget his mom and dad who have done so much for him lol.

Do you recommend doing this by email or phone call? Also, we cruise on 5/10. Is it too late to try for some small thing this cruise?

Good Luck to your son! Maybe he will get drafted by the Dolphins, then you'll have a place to stay when you sail out of Miami! :D

Lol that would be nice. Arizona called him the other day and he had a private workout with the giants 2 weeks ago. 2 more weeks to the finish line.

As an FYI Video poker points cost more, for every bet of $10.00 it equals 1 Tier point, You need 5001 points to be "Hot", 15001 points to be Golden, 35000 points for VIP. Slot machines are $5.00 per point.

That is so wonderful! I hope it all works out well for him!

I think I'd also vote for the week-long cruise, if you can get your husband to take the time off. BTW, did you know there is 2-night Gem cruise out of NYC Nov. 7-9? I know it's a few weeks later than your Pearl cruise and 2 nights rather than 3, but it's right out of NY and I'm sure if CAS made you a good offer for the Pearl, you'd get a good offer for this one. Maybe that way you could do the Gem and the Breakway ;). After all, you wouldn't have to buy plane tickets! I am actually thinking of the Gem 2-nighter because it's the weekend of the BF's birthday. Thanks to your great info on the casino board, I'm going to wait until after we do our gambling in July and then see if we can get it comped :).
