Perth to Fremantle Best Way?

Recommended Posts

Aloha,

We will arrive at the Perth airport and our hotel for 2 days will be in Fremantle which we understand is about 15 miles. What transportation is available?

Thank you for any assistance,

Cheryl:)

There's a public bus to Perth, then the train to Fremantle for public transport.

Alternatively, you could take a taxi all the way (lots of dollars!). There may also be a shuttle, but I don't know of any.

Train is your quickest option. There is also the bus and a ferry.

Enjoy your stay.

Ooops you are probably wanting to get straight from the airport to Fremantle. Yes, taxi will cost an arm and a leg.

There is a shuttle at a cost ($15-00) to the city, then you could hop on the train.

This may help you.

The last time I went from Perth airport (Domestic) to Fremantle, I took the "Fremantle Airport Shuttle". This was 2 years ago now. The shuttle desk was near the baggage claim exit, and the waiting area was not far outside from there.

Agree - I have used that service too. Although depending on time of day and month I have had it cancelled last minute (we booked online) because "we don't run at night during winter" But with 3 people the difference between 3 shuttle fares and a taxi during off peak was negligible. Bon voyage!!

We arrive at Perth airport at 3:35pm on Monday, Feb. 23rd so that puts us on our way to Fremantle during rush hour traffic. We may just try the shuttle since it is still day light and enjoy the scenery and mini tour of the area by shuttle.

Aloha and thank you all for the input.

I just popped in to post a question and saw this - alas, the airport shuttle no longer runs to Fremantle, only Perth city. You can get the train from there as mentioned above. Doing it this way for 2 people would cost approximately half the taxi fare.

Instead of the train, you could take the ferry down the river from Perth to Freo. :D

A taxi would cost around $65, but split between two people it isn't too bad. It would cost less if you take a shuttle to Perth, then train or boat to Fremantle, but then you have to get to your hotel with luggage.

When you consider the whole cost of your trip, is $65 too much for the convenience of door-to-door? That is what we would do.

At least with a taxi or shuttle you are going from the door of the airport to the door of your hotel without having to schlep your luggage all over town.

You are on holiday, just spread the cost of a taxi over your cruise and air fare and you wont even notice it.:D

Once in your Fremantle Hotel , the train into Perth is a breeze. You also have the option of a scenic cruise up the Swan River on the ferry.:)

Enjoy your time in Fremantle/Perth...we did.

Ok then, the taxi it is if there is no longer a shuttle. We do not like trucking luggage all over the place. Getting older...LOL

The ferry ride up the river sounds nice for the next day. There is also an island we were thinking about trying to get to by ferry if there is one. Will play it by ear. Excited and looking forward to this adventure.

Aloha,

Cheryl & RIch:)

I agree, lugging your bags around is a pain. I would cab it to the hotel or at least to the ferry.

Rottnest Island can be reached by boat. Embarkment is an easy walk from the Fremantle Railway Station. Great place to visit if the weather is warm & calm.

Ferry from Barrack st would be nice but your arrival time would be a hindrance!

Believe me a taxi is your best bet;)

I live in Perth and can tell you our public transport system is beyond 3rd world compared to the East! No trains or buses from the airport, Airport shuttle to CBD and surrounding area hotels then a walk to train ride plus the luggage haul from Freo station to hotel, you would have wished you had just caught a cab for a few $ more:D

The route from the airport to Freo is straight forward as we don't have the Eastern States traffic to contend with so in most cases the fare doesn't change much any time of the day/night

A Cab can also be a "Mission" in itself at the Domestic airport with long lines from returning FIFO workers but its still your best bet and the only way I would go.

If you had a leisurely early arrival time a cab to Barrack st Jetty and a ferry trip to Freo is a world class river experience for cheap!

Perth Public transport Sucks:D But Taxi,s to and from the airports are a continuous flow! Try and get a cab in Perth Suburbs and you are paddling up hill because they all do the airport runs 24/7 for the FIFO,s.:)

Somewhere along the road over the past few years the world forgot about Perth travellers and residents in favour of the mining boom and money that comes from its workers!

Get a Taxi:)

Must say my favourite memory from Perth is on the river at sunset returning to the CBD from Freo in September. Jaw droppingly beautiful with the sunset caught in the wake.

Wow what great info you are all sharing. Appreciate it!

We will cab it and enjoy the ride free of stress.

We have all the time in the day to get there. Then we have Tuesday to spend exploring and some of Wed. too. We will then board the ship Wed. afternoon.

Excited,

Cheryl:D

One Public Transport option we do have that overseas friends have found useful is the free CAT buses that travel around the main areas in Perth City and Fremantle. When you get to your hotel the Concierge might be able to give you Maps and timetables or check with Tourist information centres.

If you only have a couple days before boarding the ship I would not waste my time going to Rottnest Island (some people love it, I don't, lol) far better things to see and do in such a short time.

Depends really! Some go just to see the Quakkas (sp) I went to Comodo island to see the Dragons, nothing much else there though:)

Where else in the world can you go and see giant "wallaby Rat" things that live on garbage from the bakery :D
