12:40 FLIGHT FROM LaGuardia. Any issues?

Recommended Posts

I realize no one can predict New York Traffic, but under normal circumstances (if there is such a thing in NYC), how long should it take from Manhattan Port to Laguardia on a Sunday? Should we self-disembark just to be safe? We are hiring a car from Camel or 777. Flight is scheduled to leave at 12:40. Thanks :)

I wouldn't do it, but you should be OK...

I WOULD carry your stuff off, and the car service is probably a good idea....

As for time? Welllllllll...that's a good one. On a Sunday it shouldn't be TOO bad, but I would still plan on an hour, just because....

(I am a little nuts about being early on travel day..)

unless you ship hits a whale(aka unforeseen circumstance) its should be ok. I normally am home by 10:am...and its about the same time to my house as it is to LGA from the cruise terminal and I never walk off with the luggage.

if you believe that the ship hitting the whale wasn't the cause of the delay, I have a bridge I would like to sell you...

WE were on the June 8-15 Breakaway - in a Suite, we carried off our own bags, did have a speedy escort off. Once off the Ship, we walked accross the street to the taxi line , you cannot miss this, in a taxi within a minute- off to LaGuardia, at the airport within a half hour. WE had a 1:30pm flight, we had a 3 hour wait after checking in. If you use "easy walk off option" means carry your own bags off, I would think you will make yur flight. Of course if the Ship is delayed for unforseen reasons this wil cause everyone a problem with flights,if normal like with us no problem geting to Lga in plenty of time,

When we sailed the BA in late March (FL/Bahamas) - we arrived back at Pier 88 around 6:30 AM like on most runs and Express Self-Walkoff started at 7:30 AM. Folks were outside across the street on 12th. Avenue getting into taxis & car service before 8 AM. We had Priority Disembark & walked off the gangway by 8:40 PM, "reunited" with our 2 bags inside and were in a taxi @ 8:55 AM, home in Queens by 9:30 AM (and, we are 10 minutes further northeast of LGA.)

A typical Sunday trip from MCT to LGA in Queens is about 30 minutes via the Queens Midtown Tunnel or RFK Bridge going up (a longer route = $$ with metered taxi fare but not with car service w. a flat rate quoted) the West Side Hwy & across 125th Street (toll is $5.33) - the 59th Street/Ed Koch Bridge (toll-free) will generally take an extra 10 minutes if it's still "early" on a slow Sunday morning as it's going across town, typically stopping for 10 to 12 traffic lights.

With airlines flying fewer planes into/out of LGA these days and many folks needing to switch at another "hub" to make connecting flights - 12:40 PM is about as practical as it can be. I would say it should be fine, 95% of the time. Checking the cruise terminal & BA ship's forward bridge cam (BA docked at 6:30 AM) this morning, pax have been coming off the ship early as usual and are waiting & lining up for taxi across the street for the past hour + & that's plenty of time to make way over to LGA.

Check the baseball schedule of the NY Mets, as CitiField stadium is nearby - and, area traffic do built & increase by late morning heading toward to the game (tailgate parties) although most use mass transit to get there. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=nym#y=2014&m=8&calendar=DEFAULT The Mets do have 2 home games in July & 3 in August played at home on Sundays at 1 PM - traffic on the parkway near the airport has been known to be heavier, but traffic agents are also out on local streets nearby directing at the intersections to ease the flow.

You will have 2 to 3 hours between the time the ship sail up the NY Lower Bay and actually allowed to disembark passengers to book and/or reconfirm with Carmel (our choice too, #thumbs up) or Dial7 for the pickup. Unless weather is a problem, taxi line usually move quickly and is equally easy - it will fit easily 3 pax with luggage flying out (4 of us managed as we traveled light.) Enjoy your cruise & have fun !

we did Grey color "9:15" disembark- walked off at 8:30, everything was smooth. From walking off gangway through customs, picking up luggage, EVERYTHING- took us 12 minutes! Called Carmels, and they picked us up early. We were at LGA by 10:30, had to sit and wait for our 3:30 flight. You will be FINE!!! Enjoy your trip!
