My husband and I are heading to Atlantis on our October sky cruise. If you don't mind me asking how did you get a casino rate? Have you played there before? We are CAS guests but have never been to Atlantis.

Give Atlantis Casino Marketing a call at (800) 752-9711. When I started with them just like any casino they will call whoever you give them to check your play and give you a rate. I just hadn't been there to gamble in a few years so they gave me the casino rate.

My rep told me they don't really comp one day rooms anymore because there's no way to get the play in. Don't forget to take a credit card with you for the room. We almost forgot and just had cash and id until my wife thought about it.

Frasier Season 1 Episode 3: Dinner at Eight

I forgot previously to mention our butler, Gary. We didn't ask for anything except strawberries the first day. Every day Gary brought snacks around 3 pm. There were no special request or in room dining. He really was great though. He always seemed to have the perfect snack when we would get back from port.

What I can remember that he brought:

Chocolate Strawberries

BLT's and Sandwiches

Canapes

Fresh whole fruit that was refreshed daily

Fresh sliced fruit

Plain M & Ms

Gummy Bears

Chocolate Chip Cookies (Everyday)

Chocolate Chocolate Cookies

We didn't see Gary the first day. Randolf introduced Gary to us the morning of the second day. Gary told us about all of the times he came to our cabin the first day to try and find us. He really mad a difference in the experience. If you are going in the Haven the butler really works hard to make your vacation, at least Gary did.

We also did the muster drill first day, no big whoop same as always. I do like on the new ships that you don't have to go outside and you don't have to go in your life vest.

Went from the muster drill to Spice H2O. We really enjoyed that area for the sail away party. The bartenders enforced the smoking rules in that area (at the bar only). Throughout the cruise it seemed like this area always had room and no children under 18 are allowed unless there is an event.

From Spice to Bliss for the Casino meet and greet. It was a little disorganized and I probably wouldn't go to it on future cruises. We almost missed my traditional sail away pictures and had to rush up on deck. I always like to get pictures of Fisher Island. Just a week before the cruise Fisher Island came out as the highest earning zip code in the United States. It's easy to see why when you see the amenities this island has. The average income on the island is over 1.1 million.

We also were able to get some good pictures of Vibe. If you don't do Haven and you don't have children with you Vibe and Spice are great alternatives. The main pool area is an absolute madhouse on sea days. Plus you could save a couple thousand dollars.

Then change of clothes, cleanup, and to our early reservation at Cagney's. We picked Cagney's based on cc reviews being overwhelmingly positive. We ate early 6:30 so we could go from there to Illusionarium. We had read the food at Illusionarium wasn't that good so the plan was taste it, but really have our meal at Cagney's

We were immediately seated at Cagney's. We had a table next to one of the windows looking down at the dining room. From being seated it went downhill fast. We thought we booked Le Cigare Volone and ended up at The Timber Mill.

Food reviews are typically very subjective. The food on this evening wasn't terrible, it just won't good. The real problem was the service. As I've said, we are pretty low maintenance, but I thought we were on Impractical Jokers. No exaggeration, we had 3 different people come by a total of 6 times to tell us someone would take our order before we got bread or water. There were 3 parties seated around us after we were seated that were receiving their main courses before our order was taken. We did manage to get some drinks while waiting. It really wasn't that busy at the time we were there. If one of the servers walked by and called me mustache I would have laughed my head off.

We finally got to order. I ordered a ribeye medium rare with cajun rub and my wife ordered the strip with garlic butter. We totally blew it on the sides with chile and onion rings. The sides were tasty, but we had 2 tablespoons of chile and 4 onion rings to share. Okay we wouldn't starve, but c'mon NCL.

The steaks were not the quality of Outback. I just expect more from a signature restaurant. My steak had no flavor, no cajun spice and my Erin's steak just had a pat of garlic butter laying on top. To tell you how tepid the steaks were, the butter never melted on the steak.

Nobody ever asked us how our meal was, never came back to refill drinks except water one time, and we were generally ignored. The bad part was we had already reserved pre cruise for Cagney's on another night.

We left from there to the Illusionarium. The seating is banquets style all on one side of the table facing the stage. The service and the food at Illusionarium was better than Cagney's. We only tasted it as we had eaten enough at Cagney's. The food was better than what we thought it would be. The dessert was tasteless and just not worth eating. I had chocolate chip cookies calling my name in the room anyway.

The show and props around the room are neat. The show during dinner is very solid. I could see them changing it up from cruise to cruise. There are a lot of interchangeable parts. Not to ruin anything, but it is a magic show with 5 magicians. It is fast-paced and a lot of variety, something for everyone. Both Erin and I really enjoyed the show and it was our favorite of the week.

Went back to the room to get everything ready for the big sea day.

I forgot to talk much about the room. I'll hit that tomorrow.

If you just want to visit the Atlantis to gamble and don't care about the room or being on the beach, just take a taxi from the port. That's what we did -- it was $4 per person. We didn't particularly care about seeing the rest of the resort. It was an easy trip and if we would ever go to the Atlantis again that's what we would do. You don't have access to the whole resort, but enough to give you an idea.

Frasier Season 1 Episode 24: My Coffee with Niles

The big question about the Haven area, "Are you happy?"

We woke up late and went to Flamingo Grill for lunch. We just wanted something quick and we got there just a couple minutes before they opened.

We noticed that throughout the ship all of the food we had was hot. Most of the time we find the food warm at best. Even on the buffet and Flamingo Grill the food was hot when we ate there.

About the room, it was smaller than what we expected, but well-appointed. The bathroom was the best we have had on any of our cruises. The balcony was actually bigger than what we thought it would be. After reading so many reviews to include suites on how small the balconies are we expected tiny. There was easily enough room for us to have breakfast if wanted or for both of us to move around. The other really cool thing about the Haven suites is we had binoculars in the room. Erin had them out coming and going into every port.

The safe in the room is small. You have to angle even an iPad to be able to close the safe door. There is plenty of space for 2 people to store everything. Drawer space is very limited in the room. The drawers in the closet really are unusable. They are shallow and hard to get open unless you push the closet door with one hand and open the drawer with the other. You have one electric plug on the vanity in the room, one on the left side of the bed, and one in the bathroom above the sink on the left. We didn't use the coffee machine.

Every time we saw Randolph he would ask about if we saw the towel animal. He was justifiably proud of his work. When Erin commented on his new haircut he was thrilled someone had noticed. Randolf was such a personable and positive person he really took our vacation to the next level. We mentioned to him the shower drained slow and when we came back that afternoon it was fixed. The next time we saw Randolf he asked if it was okay. He followed-up on everything.

After lunch we went to the Haven pool area. There were no chairs around the pool. In fairness, it was close to 1 pm when we got there. There were plenty of chairs on the second deck around the pool. The chairs are nicely cushioned in that area with a pillow and towel prepositioned on each chair. On day 1 this area was loud. There were about 10 kids in the pool area playing. They were well-behaved and not yelling, but this area really holds in the sound. They did dominate the one pool that you could actually go into. Because of the noise we decided to go to the starboard side and find some chairs there. A complete difference, very quiet, great service it was a really nice area. The chairs were cushioned and there were umbrellas available. The pool staff came around with skewers of fruit, cold clothes, and other snacks frequently on the days we spent in the Haven area.

I only mention the kids because with all of the literature and advertising NCL does for this area you get the feeling it's this quiet serene area. It really wasn't that the first sea day. The second sea day I believe most of the kids went to the more fun areas. The second day was much closer to what the Haven area is marketed as. I agree with all posters that children have every right to be there. The kids who were there the first 2 sea days were great kids.

The second day we managed to get loungers right by the pool. There were some smaller kids, but not the bigger group playing in the pool like the first day. I met Blake from California. He ventured into the hot tub and told me his name and where he was from and that he was four and three quarters years old. He knew his ABCs, but wouldn't tell me them because they are a secret (too cute). I could have used him in the Army, after 15 minutes of questioning he still wouldn't tell me the ABCs. His mother didn't think he knew them, but he sure knew every time I got them wrong in attempts to get him to talk. Blake was a really cool kid.

I did have an "Oh My" moment when the man in the hot tub across from us had his 5-6 year old son get out of the hot tub to go relieve himself in the shower. There are restrooms all around the Haven. It would not have killed this guy to take his kid to a restroom.

On our way to the Haven on sea day 1 we walked around the main pool deck. It was packed like sardines. We did not see 2 chairs together anywhere on deck 15. I would say less than half were occupied with anything, but a towel, book, or flip flop. We do not wake up and rush to the deck to reserve chairs like so many do on a cruise. After seeing this though I completely understand that they do it (right or wrong I understand). Dr. Nora would rightfully remind you that if everyone would follow the rules this behavior wouldn't exist.

So, was I happy I was in the Haven? Yes, worth every penny.

Available to all Haven guests.

The movies on NCL tv throughout the ship are better than other lines we've been on. They run back to back without any promotions between movies on regular tv. You can also get all the movies that are showing that week for free on-demand on your tv through the menu.

Unfortunately, I'm worse than Martin, I can't even get the camera to flash when I want to. The one thing missing from Frasier is outtakes. I should post some of my outtake photos at the end.:D

I'm only on this post so don't know if anyone answered about the photos but you upload to a site like photobucket. There I viewed them in the size I wanted, right click, copy, then paste in my post here on Cruise Critic.

Frasier Season 3 Episode 17: High Crane Drifter

Kudos to all of the passengers I sailed with on Getaway the week of 14-21 June. This was without a doubt the most civil group I have been with. That makes a world of difference with 4,000 people in the space of a cruise ship.

Erin or I were not pushed out of the way all week to include disembarking at ports. I never felt like I was herded at any time. I would like to say this was because of the Haven, but we did so much outside of that area. Even around the buffet people were very polite.

I did have one funny to me incident while running around the track with about 6-8 teenage boys. I teach 400 cadets and have been working with teenagers my entire adult life. I know they were trying to impress thier friends and a few girls standing with them. Every time a runner would come to the area they were in they would move to force them to stop or to run them into the wall.

The track on Getaway is the most poorly designed running track of any ship I have been on. There is an area between the rock wall, Flamingo Grill, and an ice cream station that is at most 5 feet across. That is where they decided would be the best place to stand. I watched several laps as they chuckled each time they pushed someone out of the way or stopped them from running. The first couple laps I used my hand and arm to just guide around them. The third lap they pushed into me and I had to push them out of the way. The forth lap as I came around I saw the all too familiar plotting and braced myself. As I got so close that I couldn't avoid them one of the boys attempted to turn directly into me.

I don't believe he was part of any gifted program at school. Simple physics, I am 6'1" 210 pounds running 8 minute miles. I apologized more out of reflex than manners as he went reeling and his friends laughed harder than when they were running people off. It is just not in my nature to allow unruly teens to dictate my activity. I also understand these probably weren't bad kids. You get teens in a group and leave them alone long enough they will find a way to get into trouble.

I'm sure there was some parent looking for the mean man who jumped barriers to get to their poor kid who was sitting at a table, doing his summer reading, and having an ice cream to egregiously knock him over.

If you are a runner it is 8 laps to a mile. The track is opened before 9 am and after 6 pm. So if you want to walk or run you have to adjust your schedule. If you run after 6 check to see if the rock wall is opened. If it is it is impossible to get a good run in.

Frasier Season 3 Episode 13: Moon Dance

We did some research on TA and decided we wanted to do Soualiga Destinations with Cpt. Bob. I know how Niles feels dancing with Daphne now. This trip was phenomenal from beginning to end. This was our best excursion on any cruise.

Since our first few cruises we have always booked our own excursions. I don't think the cruise lines are outrageously priced, but they do tend to pack them in compared to independent operators. If you're worried about excursions the best thing I can tell you is what our boat captain told us. If the ship brings you back late no big deal they wait. If we ever bring one tour back late we are out of business. We haven't been on a tour even close to being late.

You can see in the pictures how close it is to get to Cpt. Bob when you see the ship in back of GeneVie, the boat we were on. It is less than a 10 minute walk from the ship to where the tour starts. Cpt. Bob was great about communications from the first time we contacted him. He sent very detailed instructions on what to do once we hit the port.

Cpt. Bob checked everyone in, but wasn't going out due to a back injury. We had Cpt. Brett, Bob's son, as captain and Tyrell as his assistant. They took out 3 boats on the day we were there. From what I could tell every boat got the same experience. Brett and Tyrell were amazing hosts. They had water, soda, and beer available on the boat. These guys have a great sense of humor and are constantly passing out information. We had 12 people on our boat, plenty or room for everyone.

As I said earlier, I get motion sickness very easily, but never felt any symptom all day. The boat gives you a good ride with lots of bumps. If you sit up front it's bouncy, if you sit in the back it's wet your choice. I went up front because I do better with a lot of wind in my face.

The tour goes around the entire island French and Dutch sides. We had our first stop to snorkel with sea turtles. I saw 3 turtles and Erin saw 2. You can follow right along with them and they'll eventually surface right next to you. The stops are perfectly timed. You have enough time to see everything, but not so much it gets repetitive. The next stop was a private beach area with no snorkeling. It had a nice beach, restroom facilities,a gift shop if you wanted to use it, and a lot of iguanas. The third stop was for lunch.

For the lunch stop you will need to wade/swim to shore. The make a great guava berry coloda here. You have to patient with frozen drinks, they only have one blender. Brett and Tyrell were taking care of anything but mixed drinks. They also serve your food. You have a choice of chicken, ribs, mahi-mahi with either, fries or rice and beans. All of the food was good and you get plenty to eat.I can't emphasize enough what great care Brett and Tyrell give to each and every passenger.

Next stop we went to another snorkel spot that was close by. It was a colorful reef with a ton of fish. The water where the most fish were was probably about 15-20 feet deep and crystal clear. There were 1,000s of fish. Erin felt very comfortable because they also will give you a noodle to use if you want one.

Next we went to Maho beach where the planes come in. We got there right on time to see one of the big jets come right over the top of us. After the plane came in we went back to one last swimming spot. We stayed there jumping and diving off of the boat for about 20-30 minutes.

The last thing they do is race back to the dock. The boat had three 300 HP motors so they haul. The group we were with was great. They were all very courteous and got along great. I noticed that was true of the entire cruise. The funny thing on this cruise was we constantly saw the same families on and off the ship. It seemed we had the same itinerary as many of the new friends we made.

This was the first excursion we have ever taken where the tour guides never mentioned once about tipping. Usually they beat you to death with it, but these guys were in a different class. I still believe every single family tipped them. It was just nice not to hear about it every 5 minutes.

I'm having a problem loading pictures. I'll put them on a separate post.

Frasier Season 4 Episode 4: A Crane's Critique

Most of ship's amenities sort of ran together so I'll cover them as much as I remember in one post.

Bars:

Like Frasier and Niles meeting T.H. Houghton that's how it was when I met Bong. We went to the Mojito Bar on deck 8 many, many, many (you get the point we had the drink package) times. It was always great and drew a very fun crowd. We never went to the outside portion of the bar. Inside at nights there was usually some live music. We really enjoyed the latin group and Jim Long. If you decide to drink here you have to understand their big drinks are mojitos and they take time. The whole group of bartenders here are entertaining. The first time there we saw this bartender balancing drinks on his head and pouring them. About our 3rd night there the same bartender was serving us and after talking to him I while I realized I was in the presence of NCL royalty and it was Bong. I should have known he comes by his reputation honestly. Know what cows drink or he may have to cut you off! He tells jokes, does magic, and puts his personal touch on all the drinks. The rest of the bartenders there are great, but Bong is one of a kind. I don't really drink much and enjoy the foo-foo drinks more. I really enjoyed mudslides. A cheap way for me to drink no-calorie chocolate shakes. Erin likes a little more alcohol and drank mojitos. The raspberry guava and the pineapple coconut were her favorites.

Bong.jpg.9a71b2ebc28910f0fcfc8ac59fa1632d.jpg

The other bar we enjoyed was Spice H20. I believe the bartender there was Danny Fernandes. The mango meltdown is awesome at this bar. It is a combination strawberry and mango daiquiri. Spice was just a nice place to go get away from the crowd, adult only and still get some sun. Erin also was able to check a moscow mule off of her bucket list of drinks.

We drank at a lot of other bars on ship, but these were our 2 favorites. The Haven bar was just too quiet for us. There is no entertainment there and it seemed like an airport bar to us.

Dining:

When we were on Epic we ate at specialty restaurants every night. Thinking this would be the same we purchased the dining package. I already reviewed Cagney's, a huge disappointment for us. I wish the service and food was better because my favorite thing is a great steak.

Teppanyaki was excellent. The presentation by the cook is what makes the meal specialty. They do all of the classic Japanese steak house stuff. They have great songs they sing and the presentation is a lot of fun. I had the shogun, chicken and beef and Erin had land and sea, beef and shrimp. Both selections were tasty and the fried rice was better than what we get at home. We ate at Teppanyaki twice and enjoyed both times. The first time we sat with 3 other groups of two all adults. The second time we ate with a family of 6. They were Mom, Dad, and 4 teenage or older daughters. All of the groups were fun and we had some great conversations. The second time we had a complimentary bottle of wine. I'll get into why in a little bit.

Moderno was worse than Cagney's. I try not to critiques solely on food because it is so subjective. The service we had at Moderno was the worse I have had in any restaurant land or sea. The salad bar as most have said is excellent . They have a lot of unique items on the bar. Our waiter seemed to have way too many tables or just had no clue what he was doing. He asked us about drinks as we sat down and we both ordered drinks. After he asked 3 more times what we would like to drink about 45 minutes later we got drinks. It wasn't just us, every table beside us was sharing in the frustration. Most would flag down the maitre 'D to get what they needed. There was a theme with this guy that after the 3rd or 4th time you would ask him for something you would get it. We received some butter and bread almost an hour into our meal and the sauces for the meats just before he asked us about dessert. He was so busy running from table to table he would never stop to listen to our requests after asking us if we needing anything. I always look forward to lamb on a cruise ship, but I enjoy it with mint jelly. I asked for the mint jelly 3 times before he finally brought me out au jus. When he asked about dessert we declined it just wasn't worth it. I have never complained to management about service in my life, but when the Asst Maitre 'D Raluca Udrea asked how everything was as we were getting up to leave I unloaded. I explained to her in detail how frustrating this meal was and asked if perhaps they had given too many tables to each waiter. She apologized profusely and asked for my cabin member. I told her it was okay there was nothing she could do and she said no I want to give you a bottle of wine. I told her it wouldn't be necessary. I really didn't want anything. I just wanted her to know so she could take care of the service issue. Fast forward 2 nights later to Teppanyaki. The hostess as we are seated gives Erin a wine list and tells her she has a complimentary bottle of wine. When I asked why she told we it was from Raluca Udrea. I really thought that was very classy of her and it impressed me. She had to track us down to make the gesture. On any other cruise line I don't believe that would have happened.

Le Bistro is phenomenal. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We managed to eat there twice and each time was consistently exceptional. The service there was on par or better to the service we received in the Haven restaurant. The food was a better quality than the Haven imo. The first night there was a lady there with her teen daughter who was telling everyone that this was the first time in her daughter's life she was able to order a dessert in a restaurant. Her daughter had some sever allergies and one of the chefs came out to walk her through the dessert menu to find a suitable option. I found this to be true throughout the restaurants. They were very concerned with allergies and checked constantly. I had the same meal both nights at Le Bistro the filet. Erin had the salmon one night and swordfish the next.

970172104_LeBistro.jpg.4869149d579837251b0975e662b0a5b1.jpg

Haven Restaurant was on par with the better specialty restaurants. The service was impeccable and friendly. Most of the time we had Esther as our server. This was her last trip before her vacation. She would get you anything from anywhere. She knew Erin liked the pretzel rolls so she would get those brought in from the buffet. We mixed and matched sides and main courses on the menu with no problem. I just have to say again that the food is served hot, not warm. The filet in the Haven is large and good. They have excellent burgers for lunch. It was so nice to have this option especially for breakfast and lunch. It was a high quality sit-down meal that didn't take any longer than going to the buffet.

1458116410_HavenBreakfast.jpg.d49cee98611dbd2e9244d8f4aed35f3a.jpg

The casino was large, but I don't think as well laid out as the casino on Epic. The table dealers were all friendly. Nothing worse than losing your money and dealing with a stone faced dealer. They all seemed genuinely happy when you were winning and get to know your name quickly.

The blackjack tournaments were a different format than I'm use to. Instead of each day tournament being a stand alone with a winner each day, there's is a 3 sea day format with a final table at the end. The prize was $500 no matter how much they earned for the week. Just from my experiences on RCCL that is very low. The entry fee was reasonable though at $15 so I played 1 time each day. One day I convinced Erin to play the tournament with me. I apologize to the other 4 people at the table. On the first hand some crazy lady stood on a soft 5 against the dealer's 4, we'll call her Erin. Just to show you what a good crowd we had they all laughed and thought it was hilarious. I ended up the week almost dead even, I think up like $50 for blackjack.

Erin plays slots so we both purchased one of the $25 slot play coupons prior to boarding. They were very easy to use and the casino host gives you a cheat sheet on how to use the credits. Erin is very lucky when it comes to gambling. She played 3 machines Skeeball, Stinkin' Rich, and Pirates and managers to hit small jackpots on each almost every time she played. She will play about 5 pulls on a machine if it doesn't win and will pull one time after a big win before quitting. She managed to win about $500 over the first 6 days. The only machine she waited until day 7 for was Deal or No Deal. She lost about $80 waiting for the deal time to come and finally was able to pick a case. She turned down the first 3 deals. On the third deal the other person playing took the deal leaving only her. She was trying to decide if she should take the fourth deal when time ran out and it was automatically no deal. Turns out she had the winning case and pulled out a win for $100 more than she had bet. So on our $50 investment she won about $600. We decided not to play anymore that night and go home with a win.

Thank you so much for uploading the dailies!

My soon-to-be-booked cruise on Getaway will be my first on NCL, and since we'll probably be getting the UDP, it's great to see what kinds of things are going on each day so we can pick and choose our dining plans in the specialty restaurants in advance more easily.

many thanks for your excellent review and for the dailies which i will be able to use in planning our 9/13 cruise. do you know if much changes on them from cruise to cruise?

They really haven't changed much since the maiden voyage. The biggest changes you'll see are the entertainers who rotate from venue to venue. The times don't change much, but those performers do.

I'm glad you're enjoying the review. Don't hesitate with any other questions.

Erin math is now hard at work. We are planning our next cruise and are looking at Epic on 8 NOV. It's my birthday/veteran day cruise.

We have decided against Haven mainly because we want to do Europe next summer. Erin wants to go inside for less than $1000. She wants it to be an adventure and go guarantee. What has been your experience with guarantees?

She also figures she has saved $3500 from the start over Haven (Erin math) and imagine what she can do with that on the cruise.

I am leading more toward guaranteed mini-suite. We would be able to adjust to either cabin. In the Haven we felt a little disconnected from the ship. In an inside I know we would be out and about.

I'm asking here because a new thread people don't really know us. From what you have read, what are your thoughts?

Thanks for helping out.

First off.......Thank you for your service

Second, great review!!!

I thought my wife and I were the only one's who had a little issue with teenage "Blockers" on the outside track (Gem). I'm 6'3 and 225lb. The rocket scientist who tried to force me into the wall woke up pretty sore the following morning:D
