Oasis 7-5-14 Delayed Embarkation

We got a voice message from RCI about staggered boarding times based upon cabin floors. We are on the 12th floor and the message said we should arrive at port for boarding until 2 PM. What's going on? We want to get on the ship ASAP!

This subject is discussed several times a week here. People have reported no problem with arriving early as planned. Have fun.

Don't pay attention to it. You will be able to board when you want to. That is just RCI's attempt to prevent large groups of people boarding all at once. If you search the boards, you will see that people have posted the suggested boarding times. I think one of the latest boarding times that Royal suggests is something like 3 pm, way too close to most ships' departure times.

Yeah, forget about it and show up earlier rather than later.

Just show up at 11:30, they will let you board.

We usually arrive about 10:30..............why wait at a hotel, when you can get excited waiting at port...............

That is exactly how we feel too.:D

yes lets all just show up at the same time...there is a reason why they want you to board at a certain time..

 

And so you board when they tell you to, or you go early because you read here that you can?

 

Only a very small percentage of the cruising public are members of Cruise Critic here and we know we can check in and board early (previous cruisers too). My guess is that a good percentage of passengers will actually obey the e-mail/text message to board at a certain time, and that's probably good enough for RCI.

Plus there's a boatload of people on lower decks who were told to board as early as noon, (or earlier) but don't fly in till noon, so they aren't coming at their "scheduled" time either.

Sailed Oasis & Liberty last year. However, this was our 1st time getting the "delayed boarding" message which is why we were so freaked out. Now, that it sounds like a RCI strategy, we are going to the port at our "preferred" time. We too would much rather wait there than at the hotel. We want to enjoy all the amenities on the ship ASAP. :-)
