Pre-Paid Gratitudes?

Why does Celebrity and RC have you pay Pre-Paid Gratitudes in your final payment for Select or My Time Dining? Whereas, Traditional dining you do not have to pay until on-board and you can use your OBC?

It's very simple. Because when you have a different waiter every night and you don't develop a relationship with them, you are much more likely to "forget" to tip them at the end of the cruise.

Possible, however, you are not only tipping the waiter you have in the MDR, but the other staff, too. Are people that tunnel vision that they don't know they are tipping others such as the cabin steward, etc.? You normally only see your MDR waiter in the evening.

 

What about people who eat more in the Ocean View Cafe or Specialty Restaurants tahn the MDR?

Yes, unfortunately people are just that tunnel visioned. The waiters actually work the buffet area during breakfast and lunch when they are not needed in the MDR

Look around the buffet at breakfast and lunch, you are liable to see the dinner staff up there serving food

You also can see the Specialty Restaurant personnel working other areas, too. It really is a shame that people can afford a cruise, but don't want to tip. I know, some countries don't tip.
