love2cruise56 Posted September 22, 2015 #76 Share Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) it's not about who has the most dangerous jobs. It's about having people on board who will run towards the trouble, and assist, instead of running away from it. This is what first responders do every day - police, firefighters, emts and our military personnel. When you say "hospital staff," that could include everyone from the e.r. Docs to the person who works in the gift shop. How do you differentiate? I had 17 years as an emt, 8 as a firefighter and 2 as a dispatcher before i got sick in 2010. Despite being "disabled" for the last five years, i still automatically run towards the problem whenever one occurs. :) Thumbs up. aftop Posted September 22, 2015 #77 Share Posted September 22, 2015 As stated I have yet to ever see a discount even though it is "offered".. I would like to hear if anyone has actually gotten the discount and what state it was, etc. I am booked on an October 2015 Oasis cruise and I booked onboard the Legend in Jan. 2015. We live in Alabama and my DW and I each received a $372.00 residency discount. The booking agent never mentioned it and I discovered it only after the confirmation was printed. The residency discount disappeared shortly afterwards.
DHnDWplus2 Posted September 22, 2015 #78 Share Posted September 22, 2015 I wouldn't get too excited.....my husband is law enforcement and I have yet to see an actual discount come into play. Sounds good I guess.... Same here... Sent from my SPH-L710 using Forums mobile app
Rare conandrob240 Posted September 22, 2015 #79 Share Posted September 22, 2015 They should give discounts to retired travel agents that sold hundreds of thousand dollars worth of their product over a 35 year period. Why would you ever "retire" from being a TA? Stay active, make a few bookings a year and maintain all of your travel benefits.
Rare conandrob240 Posted September 22, 2015 #80 Share Posted September 22, 2015 To the OP and others, there are plenty of important jobs in the world and doctor/nurse is undoubtedly high up there. However, they are typically not first responders, risking their lives on a daily basis as part of the job. That's a pretty important difference. I rarely see the discount pop up for cruises far in advance : ) luckily we live in fl and last minute getaways are possible! Oh and I havent seen much seen the 'we dont discount last minute' thing went into effect
dorisis Posted September 23, 2015 #83 Share Posted September 23, 2015 So - are military "first responders" or not? As a combat veteran- I consider us both the first and last responders. As far as I know only Princess really honors veterans with an OBC.
Trainman-2 Posted September 23, 2015 #84 Share Posted September 23, 2015 I have gotten a Veteran's discount from RCI several times. They are not always there...
