West Coast Cruisers

Many of us have said we don't care where it goes as long as we can cruise out of the west coast!! :)

I 2nd that !!!!

What is funny was when I booked the October 3 trip, I didn't know where it was actually going. Had a good idea, but wanted that trip so bad it didn't matter.

Out do the Asians in gambling and Royal Caribbean will happily give California a ship or two.

HOWEVER, selling out suites this fast for trips a year in the future has to send a message of some sort. Would really like a Pacific Coastal trip and really like Radiance class ships.

Need to show there is demand for these sailings so it is not a blip but the standard.

The problem with RCCL is they don't get the message. With Mariner, they were doomed from the start. Trying to do the same old itinerary 52 weeks a year didn't cut it. But we did it repeatedly because we enjoyed what the line offered. Only after they pulled the ships did we realize that a land vacation is really more economical than a cruise. And cruising is getting more difficult, as now you need to reserve everything ahead of time. I like the idea that the Jewel is part of the 'old breed', and there is a main dining room with fixed times (if you want), and shows that you can 'just show up at' and get a seat.

They had said that the trips from California did not have enough on-board spending. I have done some pretty in-depth analysis of this subject. At the end of the day, most of us in the know, knew it was because of environmental issues.

Instead of bringing a Vision class ship over here, they leave it in Florida. Last November was a 2 day trip on Vision, where cabins were as low as $59. 3 weeks before sailing RCCL gave away the remaining cabins to a casino, most of which ended up unused. This October 9th, Vision does a 4 day trip from FLL to Cozumel, and as of today (27 days to sailing) D1's are only 49% booked. 34 out of 67 D1 cabins open. Fire sale is coming soon, but I can't go :( This is why I say they don't get the message. The Vision should have been here. Hopefully they will get the message and bring back something for 2016....

Personally I would not care if they just sail out a few 100 miles and park for a week I would be all over it , I have noticed that the price for Alaska is up a bit over the last few years , I will still book another for the fact it's my home port either Seattle or Vancouver doesn't really matter to me , but I would happily use up some air mile for a sailing out of San Francisco or Long Beach , just for the change of scenery , but it has to be offered at times when I can sail so I would say if it was year round I would sail at least twice a year .....fingers crossed

We are currently having a real doozie of a storm....70 mph winds, heavy rains , lots of fire trucks buzzing around so assume fires broke out due to lightning strikes...we live on a green golf course and tree branches were falling, patio furniture flying...WOW:eek:

So, after watching the news about the hurricane that blew through Cabo a couple days ago, I'm thinking the Sept timeframe maybe not such a good time to go there?

We have been on many cruises in September/October over the years, and only once did we miss Cabo. That was in October 2009 when we 'went around' a major tropical storm. Carnival elected to short-cut their cruise to Ensenada. Our itinerary was changed to go to Puerto Vallarta first, then back to Mazatlan and Cabo. The key thing to remember - the ship is faster than the hurricane.

Based on the damage I saw on video of the direct hit of the hurricane, I don't see any ships stopping there any time soon.

I am another one of those booked on the Vancouver to San Pedro cruise. I would really like RCL go get back to winter cruises out of LA. I would rather no have to chose between long flights or cruising on another line.

I would love to see the Jewel spend the winter out of LA but I would even be happy if the Vision returned.
