princess40 Posted August 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Has anyone already done Jewel out of Boston last year, curious how many formal and the rest of the dress. I am leaving 10/2/05 and want to do some shopping. HELP???????
powelweb Posted August 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Hi, I was on the Jewel 10 night repositioning cruise last year from Boston to Ft. Lauderale. We had 3 formal nights, and I think the rest were more on the casual side. How formal were the nights? No different from what I've seen on Explorer or Empress. Probably more people participating in the formal dress as the cruise population was older than the typical 7 night. The cruise itself was wonderful, and we're looking to book another Jewel cruise next year. Hope that helps, and have fun, Wendy
lszu Posted August 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I'm on the 10-night Sept. 12 Jewel out of Boston. Two formal nights. I think they are saying 3 smart casual and the rest are casual.
princess40 Posted August 18, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Iszu who told you that my TA mentioned the 3 formal and the rest casual as the other person stated but I wanted to hear it from someone that had been on it.
jstducky Posted August 18, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I was on Jewel 9/11/05, 7 day roundtrip from Boston, we had only 2 formal nights. However, I know that the 3, 10 day cruises after me all had 3 formal nights. You'll love the cruise, the ports are spectacular. If you stop at Saint John, you really should do the "Ride the Rapids" excursion!
lszu Posted August 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Princess40 - I was going by the "what to pack" suggestions in my docs. Cruises of 7 to 10 nights have two formal nights. Also, I've done 10 nighters before and they've had two formals. I'm going to have to go back and make sure I read that right.
princess40 Posted August 18, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I hope you are right my hubby will be very happy if there is only 2 formal nights. I don't care I just can not wait till the cruise only 44 more days left.
lszu Posted August 18, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I just checked the web site and it still says two formal nights on a 10 night cruise. I'll look at my docs when I get home.

comfortcove Posted August 19, 2005 #15 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Hi Princess, smart casual is cute capri outfit, skirt or sundress, tailord pants and top etc. Can't wait to go on this cruise!! Nancy I just now booked our post night stay at Long Wharf Marriott.
cruise wizard Posted August 19, 2005 #16 Share Posted August 19, 2005 We did the New England / Canada 12 day last October - as best I can remember there were 2 formal nights. If you do the "Ride the Rapids" - get on the boat with "The Devil" - only words of wisdom - bring an extra set of clothes!!!! Maybe also check your heart monitor and insurance policy. The trip was great - Quebec was beautiful as was the weather there. Get ready for some great lobster / seafood while ashore. Enjoy!!!!

He is what made the trip! Saint John was the city we had the most fun in on our cruise. The Ride the Rapids was amazing. And even after all the protection they gave us, I still ended up soaking wet! What an experience!
Guest cruzr44 Posted August 19, 2005 #19 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Do they have parking available at the Boston terminal? Is it outrageously expensive? There is a parking garage across from the Black Falcon Terminal. It is $12 a day.
birdie16 Posted August 20, 2005 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Princess40, Although you will see a variety of versions of "Smart Casual" on board, this is copied from the RCCL website: "What are the dress codes onboard? There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are: Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women"

No big deal, and the third formal night seemed to be less dressy than the previous two. If you have to recycle a formal outfit, you will probably be the only one to notice. We are on the October 22nd cruise and hope it will be half as much fun as last year's. Halloween onboard was a blast.

maxs mom Posted September 8, 2005 #23 Share Posted September 8, 2005 Even though your documents and the website says 2 formal nights.....there still could be three. We've had that happen almost every time we've taken a 10 night. So don't be surprised. Like someone said....the third formal night is less dressy anyway. We will be on the Jewel two weeks from today.:D
