CrusieToy Posted October 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2014 We are coming from atlanta and looking to spend beach time after the cruise this coming Feb. and would love to bring our bikes and leave them with the car while on a cruise Anyone ever do this? We have 2 hybrids that would stay on a bike rack attached to the car that comes with a lock. The $$ value is prob. around $100 each but the replacement value would be much more. I usually use the Parking Doctors in Tampa so I called them. turns out to be a national number they give you so there was no way to ask the local owners if it is safe to do so. Anyone do this before? thanks
Tutontow Posted October 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2014 I live in Tampa and I know the area. Quite honestly I wouldn't leave them outside the car. If there is anyway to take off the wheels and fit them inside your car that is what I would do, otherwise there are several places to rent bicycles at the beach. I think is costs around $20.00 a day to rent one.
upper Posted October 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 18, 2014 We did this last year did cruise first than beach. We cruised out of Miami had our bikes in rake on back of the car parked at the cruise port and backed the car up to the wall with bikes locked on the rack with no problems. The bikes were still there when we returned from the cruise.
Langoustine Posted October 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) I agree with TUTONOW. As they say in the investing biz, past performance is no guarantee of what will happen in the future. Nothing has ever been stolen until it gets stolen. None of us has died yet, but that's no guarantee that we won't. Edited October 19, 2014 by Langoustine

BlueHerons Posted October 19, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2014 No way would I do this. Take the front wheels off the bikes and store them in your car.
70SS350 Posted October 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Ditto to the above. Out of site, out of mind. I would put them in the trunk if they fit. Enjoy your cruise!
kelkel2 Posted October 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 20, 2014 I haven't stayed in this area so I can't speak for the safety for this area, but to me this just screams "rob me". I mean if the wrong thief sees this your bike is done for. Locks can be cut, and it wouldn't take much. If you really want to take your own bike vs. rent one is there a place you can store it vs. leave it on your car?
eandj Posted October 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Renting will cost less money and worry. Seems it is an easy decision . My bike seat and wheels come off easily. But the frame IS where the money is.
fireofficer5 Posted October 20, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Remove the seat and post, then the front wheel.:p From a guy who rode to the POM on my bike with a trailer and left it in the parking garage for a 4 day on the Majesty of the Seas.
