Marlster Posted October 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2014 We are doing the circle Hawaii cruise Dec. 2nd. Have booked a wine tour through the cruiseline. Apparently one of the wineries will give us a free bottle of wine. Can we take that bottle to our cabin without paying a corkage fee? Apparently Princess does the same wine tour and the passengers are allowed to take the free bottle to their stateroom and also to the diningroom without any corkage paid considering it was a tour taken through the cruiseline and not privately. sail7seas Posted October 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Great question....... I have no idea but I know I'd 'campaign' the Shore Excursion Desk to 'make that happen'. :D If they are going to sell you that excursion they know involves a gift of a bottle of wine, you should be permitted to drink it on the ship with no additional charge. You already paid for it.
Marlster Posted October 19, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Good answer. I will go to the excusion desk when onboard and talk to them about it, should be interesting!!!!! We do the excursion the day before disembarking, so they shouldn't really care, it will be gone during dinner LOL. Marlster
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Just curious -- you said that you will be doing a "circle Hawaii cruise". When we did a circle Hawaii cruise, we had 5 days before we got back to the states. How can you be doing a tour the night before disembarkation? Exactly what is your itinerary? On our way from Hawaii we stop in Ensenada before San Diego the next morning. We leave San Diego and have 5 days at sea and then the reverse coming home except for the Ensenada port, and this is where we are taking the wine tour. FATJACK Posted October 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2014 I winery in Ensenada? Now, that could be interesting. There a many wineries located right outside of Ensenada in the Guadalupe and Calafia Valley that produce some quality wines.

FATJACK Posted October 20, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Thank you for coming back and explaining. When we did the circle Hawaii cruise, there weren't any wine tours offered. If there is time, there are several independent tours being offered online.

Krazy Kruizers Posted October 20, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 20, 2014 If there is time, there are several independent tours being offered online. When we did the Hawaiian cruise we should have arrived at 8 PM -- but we didn't get there until 10 PM. Because we arrived so late, only one tour took place. We had been to Hawaii several times before we did the cruise. Just did it for something different to do. You really don't get to see much of Hawaii on a cruise. Marlster For the ship's excursions that offered a winery tour on the Prinsendam, those on the tour were allowed to bring back one bottle of wine from the winery without a corkage fee. Krazy Kruizers Posted October 21, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 21, 2014 Thanks for the info, will still check with the excursion desk. Marlster You shouldn't have any problems since Ensenada is the night before you get off the ship. But you are wise to make sure what the rules will be on your cruise. Ensenada is in Mexico and Prinsendam mainly cruises in Europe.
kjw869 Posted October 22, 2014 #19 Share Posted October 22, 2014 I winery in Ensenada? Now, that could be interesting. Many wineries are in that area and have been operating for many years. We used to have a beach house south of Ensenada when we lived in Orange County back in the 70s. Bodegas Santo Tomas winery is one of the oldest in Mexico and now has a processing and bottling plant in downtown Ensenada, which didn't exist when we were there nearly every weekend. The Bodegas Santo Tomas winery is about 30 miles south of Ensenada and offer tours. Their wines have one many awards including one gold medal in the 2012 Bruxelles wine tasting event. We still have three bottles of 1992 Santo Tomas de Bodegas Cabernet Sauvignon. There are other also wineries located in the Guadalupe Valley. Ensenada has a very interesting history. Built in the 30s was a large casino and a hotel called the Riviera del Pacifico where Bing Crosby, Rita Hayworth and other stars of that era stayed. Today it is a cultural center. John Wayne was a frequent visitor to Ensenada and had a home further south. I still can't comprehend sleepy little Ensenada has a cruise port.;)

FATJACK Posted October 22, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 22, 2014 If the stop on the cruise in Ensenada is your last stop and you are leaving the ship in San Diego, why not buy as much wine as you want and just have HA store it for you for what should be just a few hours at the most because they will returning all stored wine the last night anyway. Just make sure that you declare the wine with US Customs. It has been my experience that US Customs will not bother collecting duty any wine as it is only about 30 cents a bottle.
