Sunshine, Deck 3, Obstructed OV

Has anyone stayed on deck three, on the sunshine, in the obstructed OV? Surely someone here has. I have been told by carnival that it is a larger room, 220sq feet, and has a couch. They are new cabins added during refurbishing, do you know if they have a cooler/fridge?

Is the outside deck busy with a lot of guests? Can you see the ocean at all with the life rafts there? We have stayed in a 4J before on other ships, they were the forward ones with the secret balcony/door. Those rooms were smaller.

I would appreciate any responses.

Thanks,

Stef

Me, too. I would love to hear some information about these cabins. How many. Do they cost as much as regular oceanviews?

Help, Please?

Amber, I can just tell you that they are larger, and they are the same price as an inside cabin, so because they are obstructed, you get a great deal. On Sunshine, there is a deck outside that people can walk on, and the view is obstructed with life boats.

We are booked on these for Thanksgiving. They are all quads and don't always show up when searching for 2 people. We were all 4 booked in one, and then last week doing mock bookings I was able to get 2 connecting ones to show up so I called up Carnival and got us the 2 connecting ones. DH and I like being near the action and I like the idea of having the lobby bar right there to grab a drink while getting ready or once the kids are asleep. I'll report back after our cruise!

This is the only thread I can find so far with actual pics. Most threads people are just asking about these cabins. I was curious too. We just booked a 4J on the Sunshine but on Deck 7. The ones on Deck 3 are all triples and quads.

We have one of the 4J Quad cabins booked on the Lobby Deck for our upcoming January cruise. We booked it under Early Saver, so there is a chance, with the right price drop, that I may give up the cabin for an upgrade to Balcony. I would like more reviews of these cabin. I don't think I would give up this 4J for an OV unless I hear bad things about the 4J. The cabin location right off of the Atrium sounds great, and the thought that I could quickly walk out to the deck to enjoy the sunrise makes it even better. I have also read that these cabins have fridges.

I will return to this post following our cruise to provide a report on the 4Js. I will also most likely provide my typical detailed picture cruise review of the ship and ports of call.

I'm hoping to upgrade too, but we'll be fine on Deck 7 if that doesn't happen. Sunshine sailings for next Summer are not cheap. This worked out best for us without having to sail for 8 days in a closet - AKA an inside cabin. I also would have preferred the lobby deck but there will only be 2 of us in our cabin. Things change alot closer to sailing so I'll keep an eye out closely.

Ok, I'm back from the Sunshine, Dec. 6th, 8 day cruise. The cruise was nice, but my husband got sick with a sinus infection, high fever, cough, blah blah blah, and was in bed for 6 of the 8 days. Bummer.

Regarding the cabin, we were in 3127, a 4J on deck three. These are the new cabins that were added. It is an obstructed ocean view. I have had the 4J's on other ships on deck 7 or 8, on the front of the ship, and I think I liked this one better. These cabins are 220sq feet, compared to 185sq feet for insides and OV's. The view is very good, could see the entire ocean. There was hardly anyone walking by, except when we departed. There is a fridge and plenty of space, big shower, full size couch and coffee table. Also, on this ship, there are not nite tables in most cabins, but these had two. I had no trouble booking it for just the two of us, even tho it was for four. Booked it over the phone with Carnival. I would definitely book it again.

Regarding the noise from the lounge, we did not hear any music or dancing from the lounge, but we were in 3127, and I think I read a review that said they were more forward than that and they did hear the noise. I heard footsteps overhead at nite, but not crowds, like maybe crew behind the crew doors in the hallway of the lounge. Didn't keep us awake tho.

I loved the location, loved that Guest Services was rite there, the bar, and most of all, the outside deck. We were assigned to early seating at the sunset dining room, it was rite there in the lobby, steps away. There are like 10 elevators rite there, they leave you off rite at the stores and the casino, we never had a problem waiting on an elevator. For ports, you get off on second floor, just one floor down, and so much easier than waiting for an elevator when your return to the ship. Or maybe 1st floor, don't remember, close either way.

FYI, JIJI was a good price, but we were not impressed with the food. We enjoyed the Mongolian grill, Guys burgers, the Cantina, and lunch at Cucina. Didn't get to the steakhouse, but the MDR was a disappointment, except for the apple tart. Try it when on menu, then request it for the rest of the week!! The waiters would bring it and ask what else I wanted to try on the dessert menu. Look for a pic of it at zydocruiser.com, I think that is the site.

Enjoy your cruise!!

How close to sailing were you able to book this room with just two people? We are currently booked in a 4j. Only option was on deck 7. I'm hoping they relax occupancy restrictions closer to the sail date if they aren't sold out. Would much rather be in one of these 4j from everything I've read.

Thanks for the answer about the noise :)

Regarding the availability, these were among the last cabins to be booked on our Sept cruise. We were booked in 3128, but got a sweet upsell to a Deck 8 balcony a few weeks before our cruise. We are looking to book a family cruise this summer, and these 4J cabins would be perfect for our DDs, who each would have 4 to a cabin.
