Michael's Club Concierge on Reflection

Just off the Reflection last Sat. and noticed nearly no-one in & out of Michael's and rarely saw anyone sitting inside. We spent alot of time in Ensemble Lounge as it was a conveniently located bar for us, & where Trivia was held. I commented to my husband that lovely lounge we used to enjoy on our earlier Celeb cruises is a wasted space now & didn't understand why it was not being used in financially productive area for Celebrity. I understand that those in suites deserve use of a concierge and a place for free drinks. Why not just put drinks in their suite or allow them to order free drinks in various bars or have another spot for them? Too many places on S-class ships are wasted spaces -- all green grass Lawn club areas deserted while the Sunset Bar area was PACKED everytime we went there, one side being the few smoking areas on ship.

We were on the same cruise, off Reflection last Saturday. We were in MC every night before dinner or a show and after. When we went in it looked empty but there were always several couples in there, typically at the bar. We found it very enjoyable. Quiet place to visit with people and super barkeep. We popped in a couple of times during the day and usually empty then.

This has been a great thread, very informative considering that we just booked our first RS. I haven't read anything about Equinox, however. Wondering if Equinox is on par with the other ships with regards to service. Anyone?

I think you'll find the service more similar than different. There could be a few differences, but all the lack of experience reports mean is no one posting has sailed in a suite recently on Equinox that has anything to add. Overall posting rates seem low.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

  • 3 weeks later...

Wanted to let everyone know that I have really enjoyed reading the complete thread on MC.

We recently returned from Equinox 11/21 Cruise. I guess I hadn't spent enough time reading the cc boards as we didn't know about the MC lounge for the Suite passengers. I have to say it was the best thing Celebrity has ever done. We have often commented that the Suite passengers don't receive anything beyond other passengers.

On checking in we were presented with a beautiful long stem rose. The rose is evidently a red flag. As soon as we got to the top of the escalator, we were greeted and were quickly escorted around and in front of the crowd and taken to MC. Carlos was the concierge and went above and beyond to make sure our vacation was enjoyable. Carlos left the ship 3 days before the end of the cruise to begin his vacation and was replaced by Millie (who had originally opened MC Concierge Service on Equinox. We barely got the privilege of getting to know Millie

The lounge was lightly used - a nice flow of people but usually no more than 6 guests at any time.

William was the bartender and made everyone feel at home. On the first night he asked what particular label you enjoyed and had it stocked for the remainder of the cruise. If he didn't have it he would run out and get it.

Almost every evening we received a phone message from Carlos with an invite to some special event at MC.

Finally --- regarding the notification from MC Concierge. I looked in my e-mail and found I had received an e-mail from Carlos a week before departure. I must of overlooked it thinking it was Spam... oops..

The e-mail we received was a bit different than the one received by others.

Your upcoming Celebrity vacation aboard the Equinox is just around the corner, and I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Carlos — your dedicated Michael's Club Concierge. I look forward to welcoming you on November 21st to Michael's Club, your exclusive lounge that will be available to you 24/7 during your vacation.

As your Michael's Club Concierge, I'm at your service to assist you in any way I can. If you have any questions about your upcoming vacation, I can answer them. If you'd like arrangements made before you board, I can take care of that. I'm here to make your Celebrity experience as carefree as possible.

Here are just a few things I can help you with before and during your vacation:

Specialty Dining reservations

Shore Excursion and Private Tours reservations

Spa appointments

In-suite requests such as special celebrations, in–suite massages, and more

General questions regarding your ship and the destinations you'll visit

Please contact me with anything you may need — even if it's just to say hello. Once again, I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you aboard.[/i]

I'd love to understand Celebrity's reason for that. Would it be better for the cruise line if the passenger put down their drink, walked out the door, and went to a bar and ordered a fresh drink using their package? Seems ridiculous.

We were told it's because each bar/space has unique glasses and when people bring them out they disappear...

A good excuse, for F&B to give, but Michael's is run by guest services, who set the policies for F&B a to follow. Those who've had different policy's for removing drinks from Michael's have experienced a small difference in policy setting between departments within Celebrity which shouldn't happen but I believe it is being straightened out. Of course, the policy can change again but it should be you're allowed to remove drinks.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

I was just on Sillie out of FLL, Anca was our Concierge.

Instead of the red rose I got a blue folder to carry that let them know I was a Suite Guest. They let us take elevator up from check in, so as to avoid the line in the long hallway getting onto gangplank. I have had red rose in the past, and think it may have been Miami, not FLL, as I've had the blue folder last couple times - - 2 from FLL and 2 in Newark for Bermuda cruise.

Glassware was same as everywhere else, no issues taking drinks to go. I even asked for a plastic cup once, and was told no problem just take the glass, see you later.

Special events, seemed each night for 45 minutes or so, around 7:30 or so one of the live music entertainers would be there, 1 or 2 of them at a time. Also officers meet and greet 1st formal night.

We had a tender port, Anca had us all meet in lounge and when 1st tender was ready, took us out thru a "secret door" in the lounge directly down to the tenders. She allowed my non0suite friends to gather there as well for the tenders and Cabanas in Labadee - where we disembarked a few minutes before the general announcement ship-wide, and thus avoided crowds.

I had friends in a non-suite cabin, and Anca told me she could allow me to bring them in one time on the cruise as a guest (I didn't ask-she offered this), I chose to do so on formal night (we all dressed in tuxes). Photographer was there taking pictures. Later in the cruise Anca had sent 3 copies of a photo we had taken in the lounge - 1 for each of us.

Anca was the concierge to train all others as far as I'm concerned.

Curt,

What you received is pretty much our experience in Michael's Club. A few variations here and there like meeting our friends not traveling in a suite every morning we needed it to disembark together but that pretty much sums it up.

As a general FYI we met a non Zenith Non suite VIP with Michael's Club benefits and access on our last sailing who we became good friends with, he'll never read this but hello Jason.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

For Jim ---- can you tell us a little more about the special events in Michael's you were invited to?

Cynbar -

I think my favorite was a Guitarist - he played for about 1 hour 7:30 - 8:00. Very low key and volume - nice background music.

They also had a presentation on the Faberge eggs. It was not a heavy sales presentation but a discussion of the history of Faberge and and showed all of the eggs they have on board.

Other events - Captain and Senior Officers joined the guests on the first formal evening, String Quartet, Pianist and entertainment (Cirque Like entertainers) showed up one evening (kinda weird)

Finally High Tea - only 4-5 couples showed up. Wait service was provided by the staff at Murino's.

BTW - the bartender often asked if we wanted to take a night cap with us when leaving the bar.

Related question - I hope. Did suite benefits extend to Labadee? Cabana reservations at Barefoot Beach? Upgraded buffet at Barefoot Beach (like Royal Caribbean)?

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

Yes, and the reservations for Barefoot Beach cabanas can only be made on board. The Michael's Club concierge can assist you with this, just ask. The destination concierge actually confirms the reservations, but the concierge in MC will contact him with your request and set up an appointment for you with him.

I just did the cabana, we chose Nellie Beach cabana so it was more active than barefoot. They did let us in thru the side gate to the Barefoot beach buffet (Barefoot is exclusively for suite guests only), which is supposedly a nicer buffet, It wasn't that exciting, perhaps the lamb chops were the extra item. It was fine for a lunch buffet though. A fish, burgers, dogs, mac-n-cheese, ribs, lamb chop, and i forget what type of veggie. I think a salad option was there too.

I was expecting "butler service" in the cabana, they would not bring food other than the initial fruit plate, only take drink orders, and we only saw the bar servers 3 times, so wasn't really up to par as far as that goes. But having the cabana on the water made for a fun day, lacking booze aside.

There is a "butler service" in the cabanas at Barefoot Beach, which is provided by the locals who work for the cruise line when a ship visits Labadee. They were very attentive when we visited in October. If you needed/wanted anything you just needed to ask and they would get it for you.

Amazing what you learn here.

It has been 10 years since we were last at Labadee and were not impressed. Evidently they have really improved the island.

I will try to book a cabana early on our next cruise.

Thanks for the great information.

Cabanas are only bookable by Suites. I booked mine via the advance email form the Suite Concierge. They were fully booked when we arrived to the island.

They are also not bookable in advance by the X website, only on board (or via Suite Concierge in advance for Celebrity suites and higher).

That is true for Barefoot Beach. Those on Nellie's Beach are for anyone and [sometimes] can be booked in advance through as a shore excursion.

Just sailed on the Equinox December 1, Ultimate Caribbean. Beautiful Royal Suite, great butler Felix. We were in Michaels Club every day several times a day. Met many wonderful and interesting fellow cruisers. William was the bartender and he was there almost all day and into the night. When he was not there someone else was. Don't think there was ever a time day or night I went in there and there wasn't a bartender asking if he could get me something. Early in the cruise William went around asking every one what their drink preference was and then made sure he had it on hand. Milica (Millie) was the concierge. She helped everyone with everything and seemed hurt if you did something yourself. She said you do not have to wait in line at excursions or guest services. Just ask me or your butler and we will take care of it.

Millie was also was great at making everyone feel welcome and magically had all of us meeting and talking as if we had known each other forever. I never saw an individual or couple sitting by themselves unless that was what they wanted. She just kind of got all of us interacting. Also, no problem taking drinks out. To your room or to the restaurants, no restrictions. Great great cruise. Michaels Club and Millie and William were a big part of it.

Nice to here good things of Milica on Equinox. She helped to make our cruise on Equinox last June very special. I hope the MC concierge on Reflection is as good for our next cruise in July:)

Just of the Reflection - I received my email the day before the cruise. I wondered why so late until I saw how hard Maritza works. A very special person who I suspect will help make your cruise amazing!
