Jewel or AOS out of San Juan?

More activities, entertainment and dining choices? Adventure for sure.

Jewel is smaller with lots of glass and views of the ocean all around. She's a favorite here on CC. Her Windjammer (buffet) was the best we've experienced so far on RC.

Enjoy the itinerary, it's a great one.

Regarding restaurants, Jewel has Chops, Portofino, Seaview Cafe, and the Solarium Cafe. Adventure has Giovanni's, Cafe Promenade, and Johnny Rocket's.

You do have the ice show and ice skaing on Adventure.

This is one of those questions I like to see the OPs cruise history in their signature. I"d say do what you haven't done before. I loved Jewel out of San Juan, but having been on a Voyager class I would probably do either depending on the ports and schedule.

Agreed. We've done Serenade and Jewel (twice) from San Juan. Each time the itinerary has been different. Our next cruise will probably be the Adventure since it sails the Aruba/Curacao route on the dates we want to go and we haven't hit those islands yet. It's such a port-intensive cruise that the itinerary is more important than the ship (for me). It would be different if we had more sea days.

We did Jewel out of SJ in fall 2013, and have Adventure planned for Spring 2015. We had a great cruise on Jewel...but...Our own experience was that except for the shows, Jewel was very sleepy after 8 or 9 PM, there was no place to hang out like there is on Adventure with the Royal Promenade (we've sailed that class many times)

There was NOTHING open after 9 PM to get a late dessert or snack except for a few sandwiches and cookies at the solarium cafe, which is a very, very small and way out of the way in the Solarium; on Adventure we expect we could get ice cream at JR or something at the Promenade cafe, as we have on other Voyager class ships.

I really like Jewel for views from every venue, (even the elevators!!) but I do not like the bottle necks around the Centrum shops at dinnertime. I feel too many venues get shut down for special events, and there are so few that not much is left if you aren't invited to the repeaters party or Diamond lounge. Being larger, Voyager class offers more venues to absorb those private events and still have thing open for others (such as the variety of lounges on the Royal Promenade)

I really wanted to sail out of SJ with our DD, but DH would not do Jewel again because he got itchy at night with not enough to do at night outside of lounges and casino, and that won't fly with our 17 yo either;)

Honestly, don't think you can go wrong with either, with such a busy port intensive itinerary, it just depends on the experience you want! Do you prefer to settle into a genteel lounge, with gambling and dinner is the last activity of the night, or do you prefer to wander a bit in and out of various venues getting drinks and snacks with a wider variety of entertainers as you go along? Good luck!
