Venting - "free cruises" are out there again

As far as people being able to upgrade for little extra $$, I believe it's because when they book those categories are available & listed on the offer. For example, last year I got the offer & was able to upgrade to a balcony for less than $100 - however this year the balconies & oceanviews were only listed on the offer for a week or so, then they showed regular price & the only discounted cabins available were the interiors.

My PVP explained that depending on how many people upgrade as soon as the offer comes out, they will stop offering those upgrades at the discounted rate.

So, this year, I obviously didn't book in time to get the great upgrade deals - does that make sense?

Hello , Yes that does make sense. I did upgrade to oceanview as soon as I booked for $100 . I wish I had of asked then about the suite . Next time , if there is a next time I will defintiely go for the gusto and ask about the suite. I dont have a reg PVP anymore so I usually just ask whoever answers phone when I call . I found my PVP not very helpful and I never heard from him regarding offers ect. Thank you for the information .

Your welcome - of course my PVP may not know what he's talking about, but it did make sense. He was very helpful in letting me know that I could get the balcony for little $$ the first time and explained why I couldn't this time. Just need to jump on those offers ASAP - and I'm like you, I never thought to ask about the suite prices - I will from now on.

Read this thread with some interest. We have only cruised Carnival 4 times since 2006 and always in an inside cabin. We do not play in the Casino (I work in one and gambling does not interest me). Our onboard spending is limited to maybe 4 drinks a day each and a few souvenirs from the shops on board (a coffee mug and a Xmas ornament). Yet, last week my DW received an offer in the mail from Carnival for a "Carnival Journeys" cruise for a flat rate of $150 with $150 in OBC. There was several cruises to choose from and we decided to book Carnival Sunshine from Port Canaveral for an 11 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean with 8 ports of call. The cruise ends in San Juan. Total cost for the cruise was $408 ($150+port fees & taxes) for the two of us in an inside cabin on deck 6. Then subtract the $150 OBC and cost is $258!

Of course, we'll have to get to Canaveral and then return from San Juan, but since we had already budgeted for a 7 day cruise in December from Canaveral, we ended up coming out way ahead. I don't know the answer to how Carnival selects the people they choose to send these offers to...but it sure seems random to me.

OP here with an update. Again I am happy for those who score "free" cruises and discounts. However, I continue to have "hurt feelings" because I want some perks too. The women I wrote about many months ago was again offered a "free" cruise - her third in less than a year. And just today while organizing another girls cruise with my friends, when calling to price our cabins, one of the girls learned that she can get a casino rate and will pay $150 less for the same cabin category as the rest of us. I'm happy for her and OK with the price I will pay . . . but can't help to have hurt feelings. My friend said she spends about $20 per day in the casino - and just last month I dropped over $350 in the casino and no offers for me. Oh well - it is what it is.

"Hurt feelings" over someone else's good fortune. Just shaking my head.

I've been playing the lottery everyday for the past 10 years. My neighbor bought his first ticket and won. It's not fair. I'm never buying another lottery ticket again.

I just don't understand some people's thinking. I cruise frequently, maybe I should get a free cruise. But, there are people that cruise more then me. And there are people that cruise less then me, but have spent more money.

Maybe Carnival should just give everybody a free cruise if they weren't should a greedy corporation.

Either A - your friend was very lucky with her $20 per day and won (and put the money back into the casino) or B - she under estimates / is embarrassed / doesn't want to admit how much she actually puts into the casino.

When friends and family ask me how much I am bringing to the casino, my standard answer is "$100". Doesn't matter if I have $20 or $2000 on me. It's not really their business but I've found a good pat answer that keeps people out of my finances.

All that being said, I earned 9700 points in the casino on the Pride Repositioning cruise and haven't gotten either a bounce back free cruise or any other free cruise offer (or a casino rate on the January Journey cruises on the Pride).

Am I ticked? A little.

Will it lessen my enjoyment of my future cruises? Not at all.

I think you are missing the point....the BIG picture. No one has "Hurt feelings because of someone else's good fortune". No one has taken away anyone's "good fortune",....the BIG picture is the way in which CCL is going about passing out their freebies. If you were one of the more consistent cruisers paying a higher rate to cruise (yes, by choice) and not acknowledged for your loyalty, then maybe you could understand. By self admission, many of these free cruises have gone to brand new cruisers, children of cruisers, nannies of cruisers, as well as being given multiple free cruises to others(?). This is really not understood by many who don't fit these profiles (i.e. frequent loyal cruisers to CCL).

These "hurt feelings" are not about anyone else, merely about one's self and being passed over (i.e. ignored). People are insistent on not understanding and want to point fingers INCORRECTLY. Read between the lines, maybe then you and others like you will understand!

Au contraire, that is exactly what the poster is hurt over. Carnival decided to give away some cabins for free and someone else (and in this case, someone they knew) got one and the poster didn't. That is exactly what being hurt over someone else's good fortunes is. The only options to not being hurt buy someone else's good fortunes are A) Carnival gave EVERYONE a free cabin or B) Carnival gave no one a free cabin. Otherwise if someone is hurt because someone got something and they didn't.....well, I've already said what that is.

BTW, a free cruise is not part of the loyalty program so why should anyone think they should get a free cruise because they have cruised Carnival more than others?

If I were you I would contact Carnival Casino at Sea concerning a free cruise. I did twice by email once last year when I earned over 6000 points (received an email back with a free cruise offer which I took in May) and just last week when I earned over 7000 points on my May cruise ( received an email back with a free cruise offer that I am taking in October).

Now we go from being hurt for not getting a free cruise to begging for a free cruise. Will this thread never end? :(

If you want the thread to end, why do you keep posting?

Um, no, that's not right. You've twisted it to make it sound like the focus of their disappointment is just the OTHER person getting something. That's not the case. If (as you said) Carnival gave the same thing to them too, then they'd be just fine with the other person getting it too.

So it's false and misleading to say that it's simply the other person's good fortune that they're disappointed in. That makes it sound far more petty and unjust than the reality, which is that they're disappointed at their OWN misfortune of NOT getting the freebie that Carnival is giving away to others.

See the difference in tone and implication?

Yea, i was having so much fun and on such a good run at the casino last time that I told DH I was going to tea and went to the casino again lol. I went from zero points to free drinks in one afternoon, so I think I probably lost in the end but I had a ton of fun while playing.

(It wasn't 20 bucks a day.) no free cruise yet though...

I get the casino rate now.

Ummmm.....yes my opinion is right. You have your opinion and it is no more valid than my opinion. I derived my opinion from how the poster wrote their words. Therefore what I stated is not false nor misleading, it is simply how I believe the poster to feel. And again, in my opinion, if someone get's butthurt in any way, shape, fashion, or form for not getting a free cruise for any reason that is rather petty in my book.

You're right, it's your opinion, as it is for all of us here. And we're all entitled to our opinions, as you seem to be agreeing with in that last post. You want your opinion respected just like we all do, even if we disagree. Which is why you "shaking your head at" the OP's opinion raised some hackles here because it's just the opposite of respecting their opinion. Respectfully disagreeing with it is one thing, but "shaking your head at it" is quite another.

IMO, it's entirely valid to express disappointment at unequal treatment when no one seems to be able to figure out any justification for it. It's like standing in line at a store cashier and watching all the people in front of you being told "we're giving you your items for free today!" and then when you get up there they say "No, you have to pay".

People don't mind so much if they know the reasons why some are getting freebies and others are not. Especially if it's an "earned" loyalty benefit. People just want to be treated fairly, and want the same opportunity as everyone else. So the frustration over such widespread unequal treatment for such seemingly random criteria is very understandable.

In my opinion, of course.

I am not shaking my head at the OP's opinions. I'm shaking my head at the "fact" that they feel hurt that they didn't receive something that someone else did receive. To me, no matter how you spin it, that is being hurt over someone else's good fortune. There are no free cruise awarded for loyalty so I don't understand why some members feel they should get one because they are supposedly loyal. As someone mentioned earlier, most people don't feel "hurt" when someone else wins the lottery so why should they feel hurt when someone else wins a free cruise (especially since they didn't have to buy a ticket to be considered)? Not to mention the dozens of other threads here about other "hurt" folks......it's ridiculous (in my opinion).

SMH because I'm "hurt, disappointed, sad, a little angry, feeling left out, wish it was me" but still happy for those who got the "free" cruises and special discounts. LOL - wow this thread is still going after six months !!!

It must be hard being so right all the time and nobody recognizing your obvious superiority. If not on you then hard on those who live with you.
