Muster for the disabled

On the Elation, they directed everyone who was disabled to stay at the initial muster location for comfort. If you are in the main theater, just let them know you are disabled and they will let you sit there while everyone else funnels out to the lifeboat embarkation station.

Hello, Mom and I have cruised many times. Now she has lost her stamina and mobility. anyone know how Carnival handles muster drill for wheelchair bound people. I called Carnival and they were not helpful about this. Thanks

I was on crutches on my last cruise and they sat us down in a lounge and we listened to the muster drill and we got to get up before everyone else and leave

Just got off the Sunshine on Sunday.

The muster drill for us was:

Once we were close to our outside muster station a crew member re-directed us into a lounge close to the exit outside. They took down the names of the persons in the groups who would actually need assistance by asking to see their S&S card. They provided the same briefing and during the end before they let those outside loose, they cleared the lounge to allow those needing the elevators to get a jump start.

On Sunshine if you use a wheelchair wider than 30" you will not be able to navigate through the Punchliner's Club or the Deck 4 Photo area. Also the Bonsai Sushi pay restaurant does not have any tables at a height useable for someone in a wheel chair. Just fair warning.

Are you talking about the Paradise? On those ships if you are at Muster Stations A, B, C, D, and E you will muster in a lounge. If you are at muster station F you will muster on the lido deck. The stations that meet in the lounges will go to the lifeboats after listening to the announcements. People with disabilities will stay in the lounge. People at station F do not move as they are already close to their lifeboats.

We have a special needs son.. When we board we go to guest services and ask about a separate muster. They tell us where to go for a separate muster where we are given the same information and are asked if we will need help in the case of an actual emergency. its usually a lounge of some sort.

Not sure if things have changed or not but when we went on the Conquest in 2003, SIL was in a wheelchair. They told us to go down to our muster station before they called for muster because they shut down the elevators once they call for muster. Then right at the end, they came up to us and told us we could leave early to avoid the rush.

Even those without wheelchairs can just let any of the muster staff know they have problems (i.e., trouble standing, weak stamina, etc.) and they will direct you off someplace. Last cruise an older lady about 60's came to the lifeboats and kept complaining that she would faint. They kept telling her to go sit down, but she seemed more content to keep complaining and threatening to faint. Other staff passing by would see her swooning and ask why they wouldn't let her sit down. "We have offered to escort her to a seat inside and told her over and over to please go sit down. She won't go." I was standing right behind her and told my wife they should just wait for her to faint...she'd be much easier to drag inside when she's unconscious. She glared daggers at me then said, "OK I'll go sit down." Yeah I know I'm a bad guy.

Yup, just to confirm what everyone else said about them waiting in the lounge.

My daughter passed out during the muster drill  so they escorted us into the lounge where all the disabled passengers where having their drill.

They let everyone leave there early as well. :)

Enjoy your cruise!!

If you have already dealt with Special Needs then the crew will know about your Mom and take care of her. If not, as you check-in mention it. I have a scooter that I have to use at times and even if not on it, crew members checked on me. Carnival is GREAT for those of us with limited mobility.

On Conquest class ships where everyone musters outside on deck 4, special needs passengers gather in the hallway near the doors and are allowed to leave early to get away from the oncoming crowds.

Wife is unable to attend muster drills (arthritic feet) but we tell our room steward ahead of time and explain that we are always together. They just take her name and ask if she'll need assistance and give her a sheet explaining the procedure. This is not just Carnival but every cruise line we go on.
