Buying bottled water by the case on Celebrity?

On our RC cruises I have ordered the large (LTR) bottled water by the case each time, no problem. Tonight I signed on and went to the water, drink packages etc. and there is no option for ordering anything but the "water package" which is not what I need.

Has anyone bought the LTR bottles by the case? I have to use it (medically) to mix with electrolytes, and go through 2 or 3 LTRS a day.

I think my best bet will be to call Captain's Club but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. :)

And no, I can't mix it with the desalinated tap water in the cabin. :)

You can either by a water package and pick up the water in any bar and bring t back to your cabin, or you can bring it on board with you. Just stick a luggage tag on it and it ends up in your cabin.

If you're fluing in, just stop on the way to the port.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Call the Celebrity Special Needs Access Department. They deal with guests who have medical issues and may be able to help.

They were able to supply us with distilled water a few years ago. There were a couple of gallons in the cabin when we arrived, and our cabin attendant told us to just ask him if we needed more.

The telephone number is 1-866-592-7225.

We have, many times in the past, purchased water by the case on Celebrity. We just asked our butler [if not in a suite, ask your stateroom attendant] and they will bring it. Please note that you will not get a discount, you pay the full amount, and it will show on your account as coming from all sorts of strange places round the ship - wherever they would find a case available.

Having said that we have done it in the past, as you do not save by buying it in bulk, it is easier just to say that you always need x number of large bottles to be available and it should be replaced as you use it. If you have a beverage package, collecting it yourself and bringing it back to your room would be the cheaper way to do it.

I suspect that while ordering a case on the ship and paying per bottle prices would be convenient, the poster is not pleased with the pricing. Different cruise lines offer different options. My suggestion is to buy a case and take it with you to the ship, as other posters have mentioned, and place a luggage tag on it. The case of water will make it to your state room.

We have booked Aqua Class cabins several times and have always received as much bottled water as we wished. For those who need water for such purposes booking an Aqua stateroom may be a consideration.

Interesting...

My last two sailings with Celebrity were in Aqua Class and it appeared to me that the stateroom attendant would restock a number of water bottles in the room at a number slightly higher than the rate at which we consumed it such that we were never completely out of bottled water at any point during the cruise. I never thought to actually ask them to leave an extra bottle, but I bet they would have if I did ask.

I am confused about the comment that bottled water is okay for the electrolytes but the reverse osmosis distilled water available out of the taps or filtered from the water cooler is not. What properties does bottled water ( from an unknown source and quality) have that ship water doesn't?

Water in the electrolytes is only to dilute the concentrate in order that the right balance is maintained.

Thank you.

Not sure if you ever worked things out but I came across this information on the Celebrity FAQ and came back to post it for you.

Q: Can Celebrity accommodate my special medical needs?

A: Absolutely. We welcome guests with disabilities and special needs and work hard to make sure you experience your best vacation ever. You'll be able to book accessible staterooms, and take advantage of the pool, the casino, the Canyon Ranch SpaClub®, the shows, the restaurants and bars through special accommodations throughout the ship. Please note the ability to accommodate guests with special needs aboard Celebrity Xpedition® is limited. This ship does not have an elevator or accessible staterooms. Also, there is very little wheelchair accessibility on the Galapagos Islands and service animals are not permitted in the Galapagos National Park. Check here for more information. To receive appropriate assistance, be sure to notify our Access Department via email or fax 1-954-628-9622.

Thanks for asking. :)

Yes this has been resolved as of yesterday. It did take going through the executive office when "special needs" couldn't handle my request.

We leave for Buenos Aires next Tuesday.

I have to add the electrolytes to the bottled water. It cannot be distilled water.

The desalinated water out of the tap on the ship also cannot be used.

I choose to trust my MD on this.

Why it seems odd to me, and apparently others is that bottled water is often treated tap water, and unless you know the specific bottled water your buying and what it has for mineral content, it may contain more or less so than the ships water.

I happen to know the CMO for Nestle Waters (owners of Poland Spring water as well as Aquapanna, Pellegrino and Perrier among others), would you like me to ask for more info?

Here is some marketing info from them:

http://www.nestle-waters.com/brands/water-quality/water-conservation-label

The ships water is also a closed loop system until it comes out of the faucet (just like out of the bottle) and is constantly tested (multiple times per day), extremely consistent and extremely similar to bottled water, except, it doesn't come in a bottle. The ships water is generally produced through steam evaporation, or occasionally reverse osmosis, then treated to make it a bit harder with minerals, though generally I think it is pretty soft. They do "bunker" water from port sometimes, especially on port intensive cruises as they generally need to be underway to have the levels of power they need to produce high quantities of water (need that steam). When they bunker the water in port they actually store it for two days and test it consistently.

As far as bottled water can be from multiple sources and include:

Spring water (treated or untreated)

Distilled water with minerals added (though rare and expensive, I've seen it)

Tap Water that is filtered then other minerals removed

Who knows what else?

Which type of bottled water are you getting on the ship? Seems like a crap shoot as water brands do change, except for Evian and the sparkling brands which they always seem to have. But here's the thing, even Evian isn't always the same, it is bottled in multiple locations and is slightly different each place and hopefully within the standards.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

I would trust, but verify. Distilled starts as neutral as possible (no electrolytes added). Bottled water is variable, some of it is treated tap water (e.g., Dasani), some is natural source (e.g., I think Poland Springs, Fiji), some is distilled and then has salts added back (e.g., Smartwater). If you need precise electrolytes in your water then distilled is a consistent starting point - anything else is variable.
