Gazroberts80 Posted January 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) The World Cruise has departed and Queen Victoria has left the Solent. So looking forward to seeing pictures/video of the refit. I hope the rumours were not true and flatscreen TV's have been installed throughout, be lovely to see a change to a public room. QE2 over its history changed bars/restaurants and design but I'm guessing the pressure of short refits make significant changes harder to implement. Although QE and QV differ in appearance I'd still like to see a bit more individuality in the different bars and restaurants onboard, to differentiate the two ships. Always loved QV and would definitely agree she's the happy Queen. Lovely atmosphere throughout :) Sent from my iPad using Forums Edited January 20, 2015 by Gazroberts80

Gazroberts80 Posted January 20, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 20, 2015 If you look through the website at future Victoria cruises, unlike Elizabeth there are no Club Balcony cabins, so it definitely backs up rumours the Chart Room has survived the refit :) Sent from my iPad using Forums
Pennbank Posted January 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I agree 100% about QV being the Happy Queen of the Vista Class QM2 is also Happy in the Ocean Liner Class .:D
Oahucruiser Posted January 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I left a question on Cunard's Facebook page asking if the new TV's were installed on the QV. Hope they will answer. I noticed that other questions were left unanswered so we'll see.
Gazroberts80 Posted January 20, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Felt the TV's made a significant difference on QE, they also freed up space on the dressing table Sent from my iPad using Forums

I noticed that other questions were left unanswered so we'll see. unfortunately the new flat screens weren't installed....that may happen later this year, apparently.. some new carpets, and the sun screens were added to the rear pool deck which I believe were on some pics posted of her leaving hamburg. The chart room still exists, long may that continue... The internet room has now gone, not sure when that happened, the computers are now in the connexions room across the hall and the internet rooms are now apparently single officers quarters.... I also believe that the single cabins were added and the casino machines moved out around the stair case... hopefully pics will start coming on line from members on board..... roscoe

Oahucruiser Posted January 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Roscoe, you always have the best and most current information. You must have a great source somewhere. Hope the TV's will be put in as the additional space on top of the desk/dressing area would be nice.
Oahucruiser Posted January 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 21, 2015 wearecunard.com used to have so much info and photos of all the things that were happening but, for the past year, it has not added anything.

Wonder how that went for him...... I personally don't see the TV;s happening till the next refit. There is a lot of work with wiring etc that would need to be done if they still want to put them on the walls, I think doing it while the ship is under steam could be problematic. Its not just a simple matter of having them hung on the wall. The priority in the Hamburg visit was the pods, and personally I'd rather a more reliable propulsion system than a new tv.... Especially with the most important cruise coming up in January 2016. It should be nicely run in by then...:D

Rare Scrapnana Posted January 21, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I'm probably the only peron who does not like the new TVs that were installed on QE. Yes, they are much larger and free up space on the desk but unless you are in bed they are at a funny angle. Last year I liked sitting at the desk and watching the TV. Oahucruiser Posted January 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Also http://www.alastairgreener.com It says that he is a presenter, lecturer and speaker mostly dealing with travel, tourism and the cruise industry and hosts a weekly magazine on the radio. I read that he got married a couple years ago. He was the best.

I agree Scrapnana, theres nothing like sitting on the couch in your robe (stolen from the Spa) putting your fluffy slippers (provided) on the table, opening a bottle of room service bubbles (delivered) and biting into a room service hamburger (also hand delivered) and watching a movie (provided). My steward is going to have a bit of extra sheet cleaning to do if i have to start doing that in bed to watch TV, Think of the Crumbs and the dropped beetroot! I completely agree with you. I much prefer the TVs to be placed opposite the sofa. You are now left looking at a blank wall and you need to be sat on the bed to be opposite the TV. Crazy! As for freeing up the space on the desk, it's now just a place to plonk the ice bucket we found.

Gazroberts80 Posted January 21, 2015 Author #19 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I can see that point about the Flatscreen TV's, there is no flexibility in changing the viewing angle. I do love them however as I am quite a fan of my technology so love the large vibrant display and I generally only use them for the moving map, the morning show and News, so can see if you like to watch film from the sofa the positioning is far from ideal Sent from my iPad using Forums
Poole Boy Posted January 21, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 21, 2015 QV Refit changes Jan 2015 The Carpets have been replaced in most of the public areas. Tea and Coffee station in the lido have been revamped, with new counter surface and hot (well hot’ish) water points for tea lovers. Chart room, is still intact, no apparent changes apart from the carpet Shops are unchanged and still look as uninviting as ever. Sun screen on the pool deck at the back of the ship is in place and looks good. For a ship that has just come out of Dry Dock I was surprised how “dirty” is was, eg, windows not clean, carpet dust on many of the stair way walls, scratches and dirt on some of the corridor walls, general appearance of the open decks. All minor stuff, but not something I have noticed on the ship previously. If I find anything else I will post updates along with pictures once there is a faster internet connection PS for our pleasure there is a lovely aroma of vintage QV sewage on Deck 1,2 and
Oahucruiser Posted January 21, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Thank you for the update, Poole Boy. Nice to hear it from someone who is on board. We have booked the 2016 world cruise on her so would love photos when you are able.
Gazroberts80 Posted January 21, 2015 Author #22 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Great update Poole boy, thought they would have definitely altered the shops, clearly the changes must not have improved revenue on QE. Good the larger book shop is still there, the one on QE is way too small. Maybe why Cunard haven't hammered the refit video out if the changes are only minor, guess the bearing fix to the propulsion pod and single cabins were the primary objectives, as if I remember correctly if it wasn't for the bearing issue the refit wasn't scheduled till the end of this year. I may be wrong on that though! Sent from my iPad using Forums
seacruise9 Posted January 21, 2015 #23 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Hi, Thanks for the report. I am scheduled to sail aboard the ship in late April. Other than the mechnical repairs and the addition of the single staterooms, the refit sounds fairly minor. Chuck
WillH Posted January 21, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Saw this question re Televisions on QV on Facebook and the response from Cunard. "We'll be taking the QV's world cruise next year and wonder if the large flat screen TV's were installed during her recent refit. Thank you. CUNARD Hi Patricia, yes, flat screen TVs were installed during Queen Victoria's refit! We look forward to welcoming you on board next year! Best wishes." Very odd response, given the first hand experience of Poole Boy who is actually onboard . ! Cheers, Will.

How could such a thing happen. :p Personally I love the new flat screen TVs on the QE. I rarely watch TV (except for the Seahawks), but we love to sit in bed and watch corny chick flicks when we are on a cruise and I truly love the extra room on the desk.
