The Queen to name Britannia!

I don't think the queen actually toured the ship. From the videos, she got out of the car, sat down for a few minutes, did her speech and then got back in the car again a few minutes later. Was nice of her to take ten minutes out of her schedule though

To be fair - with security as it is I am not surprised. Also both the queen and Prince Phillip aren't young and I am sure they were more than happy not to have to walk back to wherever it is they had to board the ship. If it had been a really cold, miserable day it wouldn't have been much fun for anyone sitting in the open air too long - let alone someone in their 80s.

Whatever, a great day for P&O - Rule Britannia :)

I recorded the BBC South news and have just watched it. Who the heck is the reporter? Miserable so and so of the year winner by a mile and its only March!

The Queen did do a tour of the ship.

We're all British --- so why share good news ----::mad:

What rubbish - as if they would have a new ship like this if P&O thought that it would not have a positive impact. Just look at the fabulous atmosphere on Friday as Britannia sailed in to Southampton and today -------- some times us 'British' folk just don't know how to celebrate and have fun.......

I watched the ceremony on the live stream (should be on YouTube now) did the Queen actually get to tour the ship afterwards as she got into the car quite quickly!

BBC news report she was shown around the ship and had lunch onboard.

Which news report - missed that one

Was she on the Captain's table, eating with the crew?

When the captain was interviewed this morning he said that he would be escorting the Queen and Prince Philip on a visit to the ship which included a visit to the bridge and lunch on board after the naming ceremony. We watched the P&O live streaming of the ceremony and really enjoyed it. I knew that there was a reason that we chose to retire, we now know that it was so that we could spend over 1 hour on a Tuesday morning watching this (LOL)

We can't wait to have lunch on board on Friday and then to sail on Saturday.

Just watched HM launch the Britannia. Good news the champagne bottle smashed. Good luck omen.

Why, oh why was the BBC reporter so negative. Cruising is a growing market in the UK, so why bang on about only 3% of holidays are cruises. Think somewhere about 20m holidays are taken each year so 3% is an awful lot of people. Hoping to momentarily desert Princess and go on her later in the year. Fingers crossed.

In The naming of Britania a Nebuchadnezzar of sparkling wine from the Wiston Estate Winery in Sussex was used. Not champagne.

The Queen also looked around the Antrim and visited the Bridge of Britannia

I quite enjoyed the live streaming naming ceremony. Unfortunately I still don't think Britannia looks like a proper ship, more like a block of flats turned on it's side. She just doesn't have the style and grace of Aurora and Oriana. I'm not too impressed by the look of the interior decor either, I do hope it actually looks more impressive "in the Flesh" as it were than in the photographs I have seen.

Personally I don't have any great urge to sail on her like I did for Oriana and Aurora when they were launched. None the less I wish her good fortune and calm seas for the future.

Ha ha Josy1952!! Too right!! We then did what retirees like to do, went out for a lovely lunch with friends, who, being 90 and 91 consider us young!! So a feel good day! We have reservations about the decor, but reserve judgement until our week on her in September. No problem with the block of flats thing....after all once inside who notices?!
