Upgrade Question

I'm sure this question has been covered before, but I can't find it...

If you book a 'guarantee' in a BA balcony category, can you be upgraded to a minisuite? Or are upgrades only within classes...i.e. inside to inside, balcony to balcony, suite to suite? Just thinking of booking a BA guarantee, but that would be silly if you CAN'T be upgraded to a suite...

Thanks for any responses!

yes, you can definately be upgraded to a suite, but remember, no guarantees, so as said many times before on this board always be satisfied with the category you booked because there are no promises, my biggest upgrade was from the lowest inside to the highest balcony, but many times have received no upgrade, just depends, I think on the sailing time of year and if the ship is full or not, any balcony in my mind is a great cabin, have a great cruise

Upgrades happen across categories. People have reported being upgraded from inside cabins to suites. It probably doesn't happen much. The more frequently reported type of upgrade is from a BF or BE balcony to a BD, BC, BB or BA balcony.

With a BA balcony, I'd suggest booking a specific cabin on the Caribe Deck to get the larger balcony (half covered and half exposed). I think they are nicer than the BA cabins on the Lido Deck.

I agree with Geoherb.

Upgrades can and do happen cutting through many categories - but sometimes an upgrade can be to what one might consider a less desireable location.

Always book the category you want - if there are no upgrades you won't be disappointed. If there is an upgrade, you might be pleasantly surprised. (We just received an upgrade to mini-suite AC on Sun Princess, 5-14-04, which we accepted. We had originally booked a BD, and had been upgraded once previously to a BA, same trip)

Baja Deck (all the ACs are on Baja, I think, but I am too lazy to go downstairs and look at the brochure).

Six weeks from tomorrow we sail from the prettiest harbor in this hemisphere!!

Booking single I usually book the best inside stateroom on the top deck. Was given an upgrade it was an outside stateroom on the lowest deck under the casino ..which I declined.

I like to just book the stateroom that I wont...then if I am offered an ugrade I can take it or decline then I will not be disappointed. Am highly delighted at the upgrade Princess has given me for my next trip although just a humble porthole window on a higher deck icon_smile.gif

Thanks everyone! My problem was that I was trying to decide between a balcony and mini-suite...and now the mini-suites are gone (Carib. Princess, 5/29). Actually pretty much everything is booked except for the full suites and the BA's...and some sites show the BA's as only a guarantee. I'm hoping for cancellations (a friend is getting married on this cruise and I waited too long to decide)! icon_cool.gif

RE: <<We booked a BF Guaranty on the Star in February for a 7/27 cruise. Yesterday I found out we had been upgraded to an AC on the BAJA deck. I have always had good luck taking the Guaranty route.>>

I am confused.

What is a BF Guaranty and an AC upgrade?

And how did you find out you have been upgraded?

Will my TA have to pursue this?

TA told Princess notifies you 5 days prior to sailing on cabin assignment.

We are booked 6/26 Caribbean Princess

M Category, 2 inside staterooms, 5th deck (essentially under the casino)

Is there anything I need to do on my part?

thanks!

Seayalater,

I think that you can check the Princess cruise personalizer and find out what room you currently have. It is my understanding that you can be upgraded multiple times but once you go up you can't go back down. For example, we booked a M guarantee and have been upgraded to an II, which I think is the highest inside. We can't go any lower than the II, but could get upgraded again. Princess is very generous with upgrades. So much so, that we marked our mini-suite AC "no upgrades" because we needed a quad. We are exxentially going to use our inside guarantee as an extra shower, but my children are going to sleep in the mini-suite with me. Keep checking the personalizer and see what happens. Also, once final payment is due, I think that a lot of upgrading/switching takes place. It looks like the prices on the June 5 sailing dropped dramatically for one week and then went right back up. The same thing may happen on your sailing allowing you to upgrade to a different cabin for no extra cost. I can tell that you are stressed, but I bet it all works out and you are going to be happy with whatever cabin you get.

we are a guarantee I, and the cruise personalizer lists nothing. When should I expect to see something listed?

thanks

It could show up at any time. We used to book GTY's but it always killed me, checking the personalize 2-3 times per day. One time, on a 10-day Southern Caribbean we didn't get a cabin assignement until the day before. We thought for sure we were getting an upgrade... but we didn't. We had booked a cat. BB and that's what we got. And of course, we received our cat. BB in the worst location.

We don't book GTY's anymore ;)
