Britbrie Posted August 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) Hey Ya'll! I finally decided to do another Trip Report! We decided to go on the Carnival Glory on the Eastern Caribbean itinerary. We decided to travel to Fort Lauderdale a day early, so that we could relax from traveling prior to the cruise. Our plane left out of New Orleans, and landed at FLL around 12 pm. The cool thing about flying Southwest is that you can watch your flight tracker, and watch television for free while you fly. During the flight, I watched Locked Up (there weren't too many options). I have to say I'm really bummed that there is no more Sky Mall. I loved looking at the random stuff they sold. Once we landed in Fort Lauderdale, we waited for what seemed like hours trying to get off of the plane. It was ridiculous how long it took, and I was starving!! We walked down to the baggage claim, and I promptly took a seat while waiting on the bags. Edited August 19, 2015 by Britbrie
Britbrie Posted August 19, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted August 19, 2015 After gathering our bags, we made our way outside to wait on our transportation. About 10 minutes later, we were loaded up in the Crowne Plaza bus and on our way! We arrived shortly after, and the van driver carried our bags inside to allow us to check in. I have stayed at the CP previously, and it is fairly standard. They have a pool, restaurant, bar, small store, and nice rooms. It's no where I would want to stay long term, but for a night or two its nice. To be continued...

Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted August 20, 2015 After checking out the room and dropping our stuff off, everyone decided to get freshened up. I have an obsession with taking selfies, don't judge. Obviously after I got ready, I decided to take one. We took the elevator down to the restaurant called Kiki's and were seated immediately... because it was completely dead. I ordered the enchiladas, and definitely did not enjoy it at all. This Louisiana girl needs to introduce South Florida to cayenne pepper! My mom ordered the club sandwich, and seemed to enjoy it. After lunch, dad went to take a nap while mom and I went to sit outside by the pool. The Crowne Plaza has a nice rooftop area with lots of seating and an outdoor pool. Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted August 20, 2015 I sat out on the rooftop deck for a while before I decided to go check out the store with my mom. The store had drinks, alcohol, snacks, toiletries, and breakfast items. I bought a coffee, and then mom and I took the elevator to the lobby to confirm our transportation for the next morning. She made a few phone calls, while I sat in the concierge lounge watching the news. Transportation was set up, and a margarita was calling my name. Vacation was already proving to be too much stress... :p Haha, kidding. We were really tired, so we decided to hang around the hotel for the remainder of the night. Mom and I took food back to the room for my dad, and everyone went to bed in anticipation for the Glory! This was the view outside of our room, not the most amazing view but oh well... the hotel was nice! Up Next: The Carnival Glory!!

Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted August 20, 2015 The next day, we woke up pretty early and got ourselves ready. Mom made a call to SAS Transportation to arrange a meeting place out front of the hotel. The van/trailer arrived, and we were off to the Carnival Glory!! After a short 30 minute drive, we arrived at the Port of Miami and entered the security line. While in security, I noticed a LOT of people that had 'contraband' items such as irons and liquor. A lot of people also seemed to have issues going through the scanner... like its not that hard people, empty your pockets and walk. After security, we were directed to the VIP 'lounge' and checked-in. I remember these 'fancy lounges' used to have cookies, lemonade, water, tea and coffee in them. Now they simply offer lemonade or water... silly budget cuts. We sat in the lounge for 30 minutes or so, and were then led to get onboard the Glory! They had the typical photo opportunities that take wayyyy longer than they should, so at the first chance we got... we continued walking. Once on board, we were ushered to the elevators to go up to Deck 9 for lunch. I walked through the buffet line, and did not really see much I was interested in eating... but I got the typical rosemary potatoes, roasted lamb, and a side salad. However, had I known about those delicious Guy's Burgers the first day... I would have been happy with my life choices. Mom and I sat down at a table by the window, and then the ship quickly began to fill up with people. I did not like my lunch at all, so I went outside to get a burrito from the Blue Iguana Cantina. It was a MUCH better decision. For those of you unaware, the Blue Iguana offers a wheat or jalapeño tortilla with whatever you want in it. They offer things like chicken, beef, onions, sour cream, cheese, and pico de gallo. After you receive your burrito, you can help yourself to the most AMAZING salsa bar EVER!! I was in awe at the amount of hot sauces/salsas they offered. So much so, I sent my boyfriend (who couldn't cruise with us due to work) a picture to explain how heavenly this place was! After lunch, mom and I decided to go explore the ship. We took the stairs down to deck 5 and walked through. Here is the piano bar (which seriously smelt of cigarettes) Then the Alchemy Bar: As we walked further, the smell of cigarettes was overwhelming. (No offense to ANYONE who smokes... my boyfriend smokes, so I'm used to it) It was just very jarring for non-smokers to breathe in at first. It seemed as if the ventilation fans were not operable at all, but we didn't let it ruin anything! Just an observation. The Casino: To be continued... Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #22 Share Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) The Alchemy Bar again: The Amber Palace: They had a DJ in the Atrium, and people were still piling on the ship. Edited August 20, 2015 by Britbrie
Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted August 20, 2015 The Black and White Library: My dad finished his book the day before the cruise at the Crowne Plaza, so he came and checked out the library. The books all have little security tabs so that they know where the book is. Dad read like 4 or 5 books from the library, and they were all BRAND new! I personally don't like to read for fun (since I read so many books for college), but it seems pretty cool and convenient to not have to carry a book onboard. After looking around at the various places on the ship, we decided to go to our room (7306) and check it out.
Britbrie Posted August 20, 2015 Author #24 Share Posted August 20, 2015 The bathroom had a bidet in it (which, no one used because ew). I'm not going to lie, I consulted youtube to inquire as to what the heck it did. haha. The balcony was super spacious, and we frequently used the lounge chair! Britbrie Posted August 21, 2015 Author #25 Share Posted August 21, 2015 At this point, they began to make announcements for the Safety Briefing. We consulted our Sail and Sign Cards, and started to make our way down to the muster stations... until we were stopped by our Room steward. After charing for a couple of minutes, we continued on and realized how far our Muster station was from the room. We ended up having to cross over the entire deck, while people were packed in like sardines. Once we reached our Muster station, there was basically NO where for us to stand. I got in where I could, and the captain of the station yelled at me to move. So I did... They continued to wait for stragglers, and then it commenced. Midway through, a teenage girl kept trying to push me with her body weight out of her way. I guess she got frustrated that I wasn't budging... so she moved. I don't understand why people act so crabby at the safety briefing. There are far worse things you could be doing and places you could be at that point in time... like you could be at work or at your in-laws for dinner. So why be cranky? It is a cruise after all!!! Enjoy it, I mean unless your in-laws or boss are on the ship with you... and then it's a whole new ball game. After the safety briefing, we went back to the room to watch the sail away from Miami! The Norwegian Getaway had already started leaving... so we waited. After the Getaway had passed us, and was a fair distance away... I grabbed my camera to take more pics of us passing Miami... until I realized we still weren't moving. I realized it was because the Carnival Victory has started to leave before us... so we waited even longer... Finally it was our turn!
