Splendor question

We were on the Splendor in June for a 5 night trip to Canada. We loved the energy of the ship. The cruise director and staff were very good. Now the rub. The food was not very good either at the buffet or the dining room. The wait at the wok station was a minimum of 20 minutes and the wait staff at the restaurant were ambivalent to downright rude. My DH asked for ketchup. When the bus boy brought it, he said to my DH, "Happy?" We did have a good time though besides that. The entertainment was very good and the casino fun.

We were on her in March. Our shower backed up every night when someone around us took a shower. Stinky sludge filled water would flood our bathroom. Every night the plumber came out and every night declared it fixed, only to have it happen again the next night. Every night after we called we had to wait for the plumber to show up. Sometimes it took up to two hours. For some reason they wanted us to be there. Guest services attitude made it seem that we were a nuisance for wanting our shower fixed. We never even received an apology.

I noticed walking around the ship that especially on deck 2 there were pockets of air that smelled like raw sewage. So I would avoid that deck.

The pillows and bedding in the room were worn and tattered as was the carpeting.

After 17 Carnival cruises it was the worst we have been on, even comparing to previous Splendor cruises that were fine.

We will still cruise Carnival, but never again on Splendor

I'm sorry, you asked and that was our experience. BUT.....I have read glowing reviews over and over from other people who had a totally different experience.

I think the whole shower thing started us off on a sour note so my thoughts are most likely biased.

You will probably have a wonderful time.

Love the Splendor, in fact, just booked her for December 2016. :)

What can you tell me good or bad about your trip

Anyway, one thing I loved about her is that the retractable roof is over the main pool and big screen, so no issues with rain for ship activities and movies. :)

Wow!! I haven't traveled on the Splendor in a couple years.

Glad the ship has a dry dock coming up on 3/06/16 to 3/20/16.

I typically won't book a ship 6 to 8 months prior to a dry dock, and at least 2 to 3 months post a dry dock.

Sorry to hear about the issues you had during your cruise.

Splendor was nice back in 2008 for what that's worth :)

Ship was brand spanking new then.

We cruised on her in April and had a great time! Good food, drinks and staff. The slots weren't kind to us but that's all random. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me. We are going on the Splendor again next month. I can't wait! :)

It was room 8268.....kicker was, we were booked for an interior on deck 2, last room in the back. When we got to the port to check in, we had been given an upgrade. Never happened before. Then the new room had the shower problem. We would have rather stayed in the interior and not had the shower back up! lol

Hi, we took our first Carnival cruise on the Splendor last month! We've previously sailed the NCL Gem. The layout took a little getting used to--get on the wrong set of elevators and you're screwed! I really liked the retractable roof, and that it had 3 pools! Food was very good! Steakhouse was incredible! Only did the MDR once, because we were assigned late seating, to a huge table of strangers (don't like that feature on Carnival). Anything specifically you want to know, just ask! I'll try to answer best I can!

Our family had cabins 9226/28 last October and we had a good time. Saw in your signature that it's your first cruise so just wanted to warn you that you may feel a lot of movevent that far forward. I did and and on our many prior cruises never got seasick, was glad I brought meds just in case anyone in our group was affected. The lido deck location is our favorite, and when you go down the hall and into the lido area that's where the Dive In movies are. We did that a few times and loved it especially with the retractable roof in case of bad weather. The Splendor is a nice ship and if you sail after dry dock even better. Enjoy your first cruise!

Motion sickness doesn't effect us at all. My wife grew up on pontoon boats fishing with her parents a lot. I've been on a few charter fishing boats and boats on lakes also. its never effected us but we are still bringing motion sickness meds in case we get the motion sickness from not seeing the motion from outside. you know like the difference from riding in the back seat of a car vs sitting in the front seat. Were taking a western Caribbean cruise also in April and everyone says that waters down there are smooth as glass that time of year. Any motion we feel is going to be small and not really noticeable after a day or 2. but we are still taking the motion meds just in case so were not leaning over the rail all the time.

So how are those balcony rooms up there? good view off balcony? did we make a good choice booking up there on lido? I just like the idea of being on lido deck were the action is, food, pool and just a few steps away from the front observation deck.

hello, has anyone out there :) recently returned from the splendor? What can you tell me good or bad about your trip? Thanks for any information.

My last 3 cruises were aboard Splendor.

No problems to report... Nice ship even without the 2.0 .

We had 2211, port hole cabin on the most recent cruise. Nice room at a low price.

we were on splendor last month, staying on deck 2. i concur with the sewage smell comment. we smelled it alot. food we thought was pretty good and the service in dining room, (black pearl anytime dining) was fabulous. no complaints. the bingo gods were not good to us this trip and neither were the casino gods!!! lol. we had a very nice cruise, despite me doing a header off the cabana steps in half moon cay. next month we are going on a canada/new england cruise on splendor. it will be my third cruise on this particular ship and hopefully last on her. i always get lost because of the decks that you can't walk completely thru!!

We got off of Splendor this past Saturday. I am currently writing a review of all the good and bad from that ship & cruise in general:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2254543

However, we did not smell anything like sewage (or at least none from my party in 4 different cabins throughout the ship - although we all happen to get rooms on the Starboard side). We did not have a balcony ourselves for this cruise, but the other three cabins did - and all had nice views (Balcony stateroom on deck 6, and 2 suites on deck 7).

I am not a loyal Royal, but have used their ships the last few cruises, so I have also added a comparison chart for what amenities/services I preferred from each line (although mostly compared against my last two RCI cruises: Explorer to Bermuda, and Legend in W. Med.).

Went end of June-had a great time. All the staff including dining room were friendly and helpful. My only complaint were the disrespectful teenyboppers that over-ran the ship-not the fault of the Splendor! The band in the Casino is fantastic!
