Cigar smoking on Oasis

I've searched some other threads, but I'm still not real clear - where is it OK to smoke cigars on the Oasis?

Someone posted this statement from the Compass ""Designated outdoor smoking areas are located on the port side of deck 15 and 16. Pool bar port side will be available from 700pm onwards for any cigar smokers."

Can cigar smokers smoke anytime on Decks 15 and 16? Is the pool bar on a different deck and that's why it's only in the evening? Is all cigar smoking restricted until after 7 pm?

Could someone please clarify?

Thanks!

We have cruised the Oasis class seven times and really miss a cigar smoking area similar to the one found on the Freedom. I did a brief review on our July 18 Oasis cruise for CC and addressed our attempt to utilize the cigar smoking area at the port side pool bar. I too wish they would seek a way to improve this situation...

We were on board last November.....it has no smoking lounge....we had to go up on deck and smoke with the cigarette folks after 7pm....but at least we could go there. Last Princess ship we were on they would only let us smoke cigars in their smoking lounge off the casino, but the ventilation in there was so bad it was difficult to breathe....very bad. We could not smoke cigars up on deck with the cigarette folks.....I was not pleased.

Is it even a nice place to go enjoy a cigar? My husband is looking forward to buying a bunch in Nassau and was really disappointed he has to go outside to enjoy them.

It's just the outdoor seating area on the pool deck. If it's a nice night out, then yes. If the weather is rubbish, not so much.

We had the same experience on Caribbean Princess. It was so bad our eyes were watering. We got a good laugh out of it because out of the six of us, no one wanted to be the first to get up. I finally said sorry boys but screw this. We weren't even half way through our cigars before we put them out and left. Very sad.

I am in the same boat, and looking to clarify before I sail in a week. It doesn't specify, but in my opinion, a smoking area is a smoking area. If people can light up cigarettes on port side 15 and 16 in the designated areas, I am going to light up my cigar there, whenever I feel like.... regardless of what the compass says.

One thing i dont like about Oasis vs other class is the loss of the deck 5 muster area on 1 side of the ship to smoke and see the ocean.

Here's the language from the policy. You should be able to enjoy a cigar at any outside smoking area when you wish.

Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the starboard side of all ships; with the exception of Oasis-class ships that will allow smoking on the port side of the ships. To assist in locating areas where smoking is permitted, guests will find visible signage posted within all smoking areas and ashtrays that are provided for use. Outdoor areas near restricted areas, food venues, and kids play areas and pools will not allow smoking. On Oasis class, smoking is not permitted in Central Park or the Boardwalk neighborhoods.

  • 1 year later...

Late to the thread as usual... Just want to pass along what I 'heard' on my cruise last year. I had the pleasure of being on the Navigator of the Seas, which does still have the Connoisseur Club. On that cruise was a gentleman who cruises quite often. He spends a lot of time in the Connoisseur Club, and one night the topic came up about all this. From what he said, please take this as second hand information and not vetted, he emailed the head of Royal Caribbean about the issue of Connoisseur Club's being eliminated from the newer ships. The response he got was basically that the company is trying to go completely smoke free, so with that there would be no more Connoisseur Clubs on any of the new ships.

Again take that as unvetted information.

Honestly I think it is a bit ridiculous that on a ship so large they cannot fine a few hundred square feet, put up some nice wood paneling, throw in a few overstuffed leather couches and offer a few libations to a steady number of passengers.

But what do I know...

...And people think that smoking does not affect others. You just learned what non smokers endure when being around smokers.

I like the idea of Smoke Free ships. However, a designated outdoor area for smoking is fine with me. This does not include ANY indoor areas such as the Casino, ones cabin or balcony.

I personally have no issue with an inside room that is designated as a smoking room with good ventilation that is configured in a negative pressure way (so the smoke does not pour out of the room). Just vent it up to the stack and make the smells go away.

If this were the case, they could make that the only smoking area, and no one would be able to smoke anywhere else. This is the way it is in airports nowadays. They have the smoking room with the hazed over windows right now.

Anyone smoking anywhere else would be thrown off the ship (even while at sea. :D )

Might work but must not be a walk through area like the Casino on most ships. Casinos need to be SMOKE FREE. This is a public area and other cruisers should not be subject to the smoke.

I totally agree. Make it a single use room with a single door.

I hope Royal is reading this..... they like us in the Casino.... NON SMOKERS!!!

They like us NON SMOKERS that play in the Casino when the SMOKE is not bad so much, they just gave us another huge discount on our cruise in September 17 Med on Presidents Cruise. Thank you Club Royale !!!

We will be sure to express our opinion to the President and CEO of Royal in September, if we get the chance. We booked this cruise for the sole issues to discuss SMOKING on Royal Cruise ships in the Casino.

Update (on Oasis now)...

Late to the thread as usual...

No worries mate, it's a circular/never-ending topic.

Apparently cigar smoking is a free-for-all now, at least on decks 15 & 16 port side. I've seen/smelled at least one cigar quite often, at all hours, day or night.

... Honestly I think it is a bit ridiculous that on a ship so large they cannot fine a few hundred square feet, put up some nice wood paneling, throw in a few overstuffed leather couches and offer a few libations to a steady number of passengers.

But what do I know...

I have reached the conclusion on this particular cruise - because of all the differences this cruise from our first on Oasis - differences meaning disappointments - that the only operative words now are "greed" and "cost-saving". It's hard for us to believe we're on the same ship as the one we sailed five years ago. And I increasingly doubt that what any of us passengers suggest to them will make any difference whatsoever.
