helpthejuggler Posted November 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2015 In a survey by "DIY Cruiser" magazine, Italian star port of Civitavecchia has been voted most inconvenient port of 2015-16. The change of port entrance combined with easy pedestrian access to the station being ignored by the port shuttle operators is a major factor. The Argo bus while functional does not meet the very predictable needs of passengers. A disgruntled passenger recently. commented, "It is like the port management and Civitavecchia in general has tried to make the worst choices conceivable to stop passengers spending a little time in their town." The lack of initiative shown by local taxi drivers has been described as "beyond belief" DIY Cruiser does not exist but if it did, I would concur with it. Rare cruisemom42 Posted November 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2015 Livorno is still worse, IMHO.

Rare Hlitner Posted November 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) Whoever voted has no clue. Civitavecchia is heaven when compared to Livorno! As to the comment about taxi drivers, this should apply to taxi drivers throughout Italy (and many other countries). Hank The OP stated in his last sentence that he fabricated the whole thing, there was no voting. It was just his personal opinion. He is entitled to it, but why make up a story about it? He is entitled to it, but why make up a story about it? Many travelers are frustrated by ports all over the world. As a confirmed DIYer (we think the word "tour" is a 4 letter word) we have often had to deal with ports unfriendly to cruisers. But ironically (and we have posted this many times) we have always thought of Civitavecchia as one of the better ports for DIYers. Things are now a bit more difficult because they moved the port entrance and apparently eliminated the marked walkways (that would let us walk all the way out of the port if we desired). But they still operate a free internal port shuttle service (one of the best we have seen anywhere) that can get DIYers outside of the port. And from the drop point it is still possible to walk to the train station. In some other ports (such as Livorno) there is no way out other then to take an excursion or pay a high fee to a taxi (who often will not do the short local haul). Rare Keith1010 Posted November 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2015 Livorno is still worse, IMHO. I was just thinking the same thing. Yes, absolutely, Livorno. Keith
ROCruiser Posted November 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I thought Civi is a nice, quiet town that is easily accessible from the ship. As mentioned above, the free shuttles between ship and port gate worked well for us.
