Solution to "OOPS... LOOKS LIKE ROYALCARIBBEAN.COM IS ON VACATION"

Just had a friend get this error on their browser and he chatted me for a solution. We tried a few things and looks like I helped him overcome it.

In the past I told people to clear cookies and history or try a different browser but those things won't be doable for everyone.

If this happens to you, please try a different URL in the following order:

  1. http://www.royalcaribbean.com
  2. https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/mycruises/login.do
  3. https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/cruises?cS=NAVBAR

From what we just tested, #2 and #3 work for him but #1 does not.

Report back if you experience this error and any of this helps, or doesn't help.

I just type in http://www.rccl.com in my IE browser. That's how I've always done it. I've never had any issues logging in or navigating RCCLs web site. Never had to delete cookies either.

Good to know -- I texted my buddy (who still can't get on at http://www.royalcaribbean.com but can using the other two links) and he said that http://www.rccl.com works!

It probably works because those addresses actually go to different servers that are used for different parts of the RC web site.

The only thing that come back to bite you is if the reason the RC site is "on vacation" is because they are updating the site. You will still see the "old" site on the alternative links and miss the updates.

Of course it shouldn't happen that way, but we are talking RC's IT department after all.

Agree with this thought but it isn't actually fully correct.

I just dialed into my buddy's PC (using Teamviewer) and went to http://www.royalcaribbean.com -- got the error page. Then went to http://www.rccl.com which forward to http://www.royalcaribbean.com automatically and it loaded fine. Then went back to straight http://www.royalcaribbean.com and got the error page.

Goofy stuff.

Not sure I'm buying into all you posted. But for my own curiosity how do you log into RC's website? I was able to log in and navigate with no issues using the three links the OP listed. The link I recommended to the OP I have always used and have been able to view and accomplish what I need to do prior to Cruising. Including Pre and Post updates. Occasionally I have received notices that advices me the site is under maintenance and to check back at a later time.

Only #2 works for me, I get the dreaded on vacation when I use firefox, I can get in when I use explorer.

Thanks for reporting in that #2 works -- that was my first idea to pitch to him an it worked instantly even though #1 still doesn't work for him 24 hours later!

Thank you for taking the time to share some ideas. I did notice the other day that I used an old bookmark and I was able to get through and pay my deposit online. It actually asked me if I wanted to go to the Australian site (big square in the middle with Australia in it) or continue at royalcaribbean.com.au. I can't remember which I clicked on, but it was an unusual message. Which I considered to be asking me a choice of the same thing.

My issue lately has been that I can get in to doing a booking, request the cabin number that I am interested in, but when I go to do the deposit it tells me that it has not worked. After using several credit cards, and going in and out, turning off computer and all the rest, it was a day and a half of the same thing.

I did try to ring to complete the transaction, but the consultant (I use that term loosely!) could not see that I was at the payment stage of booking on his system (where it was telling me to ring to complete the transaction), and tried to quote me AUD$800 more, and he was quoting on the cabin that was currently showing on my screen as what I was trying to pay for. I could not do a 24 hour hold either. It kicked me out of that.

So next time, I will try all of those type of urls. I actually missed out on my first two preferred cabins during that process, but was lucky to get my third choice. I did wonder if someone else was booking those cabin numbers at the same time after that. But it only said my credit cards were the problem. I am talking about booking a cruise that has been on sale for months for early 2017. It is not a special new release or anything.

Also I did get it for exactly the same price that I first saw. The price did not change at all on my computer during that process.

Anyhow, thanks for trying to help with some other options. :)
