beautiful.thing Posted January 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2016 What's the latest with having to sign receipts when you have a drink package? Are all ships requiring this these days? I have had the package on all 3 FOS cruises I have done and they have always required it. I did not get a package on my last cruise on the Radiance so I'm not sure about that ship. Allure is up next for us so I am personally most interested in that one but wondering if this is standard practice as I know it was not when they were first introduced. So which ships require signatures and which, if any, don't?

beautiful.thing Posted January 28, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted January 28, 2016 They are hoping you will give additional tip. Of course. The bartenders and waitresses quickly learn though that I will be giving them cash tips and they still make me sign ...
jticarruthers Posted January 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2016 No consistency that I have noticed. I have even gone to the same bar within 30 minutes and been asked to sign one time and not even given a receipt the next.
Jmillsarch Posted January 28, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 28, 2016 What about Brilliance of the seas ? We were on Brilliance right before Christmas and it was hit or miss. About 25% of the time I was given a receipt to sign. On Allure I've always had to sign. On Liberty I never had to sign. James

btoneill Posted January 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2016 We had to sign all of ours last cruise. And, the reason isn't surprising. People are cheap and liars. Spent a lot of time talking to the casino bar tender. The issue is people going to guest services and saying "I don't want the drink package! It's a waste! I'm not using it!". Guest services will now happily remove the package from your bill and charge you for every drink you purchased previously. Most people end up having them put the package back on. Kinda tough to deny you had a bunch of drinks when you're signing for them. If people weren't always trying to screw over the cruise lines... CarpeCerevisi Posted January 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 28, 2016 On the Allure last December the only bars that I went to that didn't require me to sign were the Mast Bar and the Wipe Out bar.
cruisinfanatic Posted January 28, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Whenever I get handed a receipt for signing, I just make sure it says zero, leave my tip, and walk away. Edited January 28, 2016 by SeaUs

Its included upfront. How much are you really expected to pay for a drink and tip? That sounds crazy to me.
dpostman Posted January 28, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2016 On Liberty last April, with the UP, the slips were given to me only the first few times, but once the servers recognized me, and knew I gave out cash tips instead of on the slip, they stopped bringing them. It only happened after that if we went to a new bar or the servers at the shows. dp

That sounds crazy to me. I feel the same, you already paid 18% gratuities for the drink package, why tip again per drink. I will only tip at the end of the cruise to my favorite and best bartenders that took extra good care of me.

That sounds crazy to me. We always tip extra. Usually $1 a drink unless we get exceptional service. At the cigar bar my husband and I would sit and talk with the bartender while my husband enjoyed his cigar. We enjoyed our time with this bartender and really looked forward to this time of the night. The last few nights we ended up giving him an extra $20 each time we left. The bartender really appreciated it and it made us feel good. I tip more than 18% at home so I do the same on a cruise.

We tip "extra" to those bartenders who are nice to us early on and return to them later. Often they do not even print a slip later on, however we have tipped extra even after for those that do take good of us.
