Having major birthdays while onboard

I was wondering whether Carnival do anything special for passengers who celebrate major birthdays while on board? Like 40th, 50th, 60th birthdays? If they do, do they do it without anybody having to organise it? Or should you tell them about the birthday before the trip so that they can arrange something?

I'm talking about NO COST things .... the person doesn't eat cake so wouldn't want to be spending money on a cake. Do they give the person a card? Or put a birthday greeting on the door?

(I'm thinking that they don't do anything, because there are way too many passengers on board to commit to doing anything like this?? .... but I'm asking anyway ........)

Thanks :)

Doesn't matter what age of Birthday is being celebrated. The Free part is your waiter and maybe near by waiters singing " Happy Birthday " when they deliver the dessert. :)

And you have to make sure that the waiters know to do this. They are not clairvoyant

I just celebrated my birthday on the Breeze in December. I got the happy birthday singing and individual cake at dinner. I also received, from Carnival, a gift card for a free photo and a gift card for dinner for 2 at the Italian Restaurant. Guest services said this was a gift from corporate and something new they are doing. A tablemate received a discount in the spa. Very nice gesture from Carnival but they could change this at any time.

You can order room decorations through Bon Voyage. The cabin will be decorated at embarkation which is a nice surprise. As for no cost things, since the person doesn't eat cake, maybe your waiter could bring something else like a different dessert, fruit or cheese plate and sing happy birthday. Doesn't have to be cake.

We've sailed several time on our birthdays.

Although birth dates are in Carnival database, they have never done anything with me letting them know.

I make sure I ask our wait team to sing HB to the DH. They bring out a dessert with a candle.

Other than that, nothing unless you purchase something. Except one time there was a HB message for the DH on the cabin TV. That was a surprise.

They have never sang HB to me. The DH knows I would throw him overboard if he set it up.

There are no "special moments" that are celebrated, by Carnival, for free or without intervention by the parties affected. Want a cake, buy one. Want the waiters to sing, ask them. No special announcements, no door decorations, no cards, no little gifts. Carnival sails with some 3 million passengers every year....and that equates to a lot of birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc.

My husband celebrated his 30th onboard last week. We did order him a cake for dinner to share with the table, but we also got a card from our room steward in the morning and then in the evening he got a coupon for $25 off a bottle of wine. The really interesting thing is that I did not celebrate my birthday while onboard, but it is at the end of this month. I also received the coupon for a discount on a bottle of wine. It was a nice surprise, I did not get that last year when we celebrated my birthday onboard, so it's definitely a new thing.

Did you or do you use the casino? They often provide birthday cakes and bottles of wine for passengers who frequent their services.

Actually this is incorrect! Se my previous response as well as others!

If out of nowhere a group of strangers started singing HB to me, I would be mortified & send them away.

I utterly LOATHE adults who are attention (insert the word) and need NOT to be thought of as one.

Kids, that's a different thing. Then sing 'em HB, balloon animals the size of the ship and everything.

Just celebrated my birthday on the Sunshine and received a certificate for dinner for 2 at the Italian restaurant. Our waiters also delivered dessert with a candle and sang on the actual night.

Did you receive this at the beginning of the cruise or on your actual birthday?

We are going on the Breeze in March. My daughter will be turning 17 while on the cruise. I would love for her to receive something special from Carnival. Did you ask your travel agent to arrange something? Or did you notify Carnival? I'm wondering if this just happened out of the blue or if you did something ahead of time to make it happen.

I haven't heard of the new things they are doing, but if you have a travel agent, they can make a note in your booking that someone is having a birthday on a certain date, and the waiters will usually sing and bring them cake with a candle.

My husband celebrated his 30th on board last week. I ordered a cake through the fun shops ahead of time, to be delivered to the room. It was way too much for the two of us, so we brought it to dinner to share. The waiter saw the cake, jokingly fussed that we didn't tell him that it was his birthday, took the cake, put a candle in it and had everyone sing happy birthday. He also received a birthday card in our room. There were no gift certificates, and we definitely did not expect any, so no disappointment.

We celebrated my 40th this past October. We had gone to the pool for several hours and came back to the room and they had a card laying on the bed saying happy birthday. Then went to dinner that night and was expecting them to sing as I was hearing them sing to other tables. But our waiter never did anything special. So I went to bed that night without anything special. I was a little disappointed. The next day I had a problem with our account and went to guest services and the girl helped me and then handed me a coupon for a free drink for $10. And told me happy belated birthday!

A Carnival representative called my cabin on my milestone birthday and wished me happy birthday. I thought that was awesome! That was on Carnival Sunshine. No one arranged this--they just did it.

I was on Conquest in January and my twin niece and nephew had a birthday. They were announcing the day's birthdays on their televised morning show run by the cruise director and calling the birthday folk's cabins. Then they told the people if they got to the theater (or wherever they were broadcasting the show from) within X number of minutes they'd get a gift. (I want to say it was a bottle of champagne, but maybe I just guessed that at the time rather than knew it as fact)

In my niece/nephew's case, my niece was out of the cabin and my nephew was asleep and didn't answer, so they got nothing out of that. (They only turned 20 anyway so wouldn't have been able to get champagne) At dinner their mother said something to the waiter who was able to find some kind of cake-ish type thing with candles and they sang Happy Birthday. So they will do something if you bring it to their attention.

It was something my TA put in my profile saying I would be celebrating my birthday.

But posting negative comments here is ok with you? I'm sorry but you didn't need to comment. I just LOATHE adults who feel the need to be negative and rude .....

That all sure would be neat. Our little one turns 6 on our cruise this fall. He'd be thrilled if he got any surprises!

One of my grandsons will turn 6 on our cruise in two weeks, we ordered the decorations and a cake for the room. I will let you know if anything else occurs.
