Kiwi935 Posted March 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Academy Bus is no longer running Cruise Bus Service from this area. Other than driving, what is the easiest and/or most economical way to get to Cape Liberty from Boston area? Thank you
mjkacmom Posted March 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Amtrak to Newark, and then take a cab?
Nitemare Posted March 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Amtrak is correct, or Greyhound or a combo of cheaper buses (one to NYC, one from NYC to Newark)
mjkacmom Posted March 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2016 Bolt goes direct from Boston to Newark.
138east Posted March 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2016 I've tried everything (and I mean everything) and there is no optimal way to go. In the past under normal circumstances I'd drive down the day of the cruise or use the cruise bus. I would NOT be on public transit bus or train the morning of the cruise from Boston. The prime directive is making the ship. The next port from Cape Liberty is 2-4 days away! One trip that worked really well for me was Amtrak to Newark Penn Station the evening before, overnight at the Robert Treat (very nice and very reasonable - look for deals), hotel shuttle to Newark Penn Station at 9 am, PATH to Exchange Place ($2.75), light rail to Bayonne ($2.25), and cab into the port ($10-12). This was a 100% accessible trip, but it's not for everyone. Car Service from Newark or Newark Airport runs $55-65 to Cape Liberty. I'm on the Anthem now and I chose to drive down the day before because of the weather and grab a hotel at the airport. Good choice for this particular trip - gorgeous drive down on Thursday, 2" snow overnight, but easy drive to Cape Liberty. $60 to park for a three day cruise. Laurab23 Posted March 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2016 Boston to Albany, stay overnight then park at Yankee Trails and take their cruise express right to the port. The bus is $90 round trip. Would that work for you? A round about way but the drive to Albany(actually Renselear NY-next to Albany) is about 3-31/2 hours. Laura
Crusin6 Posted March 5, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2016 Amtrak to the closest port stop....Newark or Newark Liberty (for possible bus shuttle to cape Liberty?) Take a cab from Amtrak stop to the port Sent from my iPad using Forums
138east Posted March 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2016 Amtrak to the closest port stop....Newark or Newark Liberty (for possible bus shuttle to cape Liberty?) Take a cab from Amtrak stop to the port Sent from my iPad using Forums You have to go to Newark Penn Station. The Newark Airport Station has no vehicle access (i.e. no cabs) and you gave to take the Airtrain to a terminal to get a cab.
