10-Yr Anniversary (March 23rd): Fire on Star Princess

Coming late to this thread, sorry. I too was on the Star when she burned. The ironic thing was that a March cruise was in response to two hurricanes the year before. Looking back, hurricanes are not so bad.

Yeah, i'm just seeing this thread as well.

We too were on the Star Fire Cruise. And we too were on the other side of the ship in the back. Probably as far away from the fire as you could be. That was our 2nd or 3rd cruise and we are now Elite with Princess. It sure didn't keep us from cruising. Actually, the credit had to be used within 1 year of sailing and that is what started the "need" for cruising more than once a year.

We were probably in the last group of 200 people to leave the island. After a couple of days, they took us all off the ship and to a hotel. They ship had to leave and go get repairs.

While Princess was amazing during the fire as they had practiced many many times, what the company had never practiced was how to get all those people off the ship and home in an even like ours. It was Spring Break so you can imagine that the flights were pretty crowded already. They lacked any type of communication with the passengers about how they were getting us home. But again, we were safe so we just hung out for a few days. That's most important.

I remember that well. The word was to look for a massage on the door. If no message before some certain time then you were to stay on ship that day. Well, no message and we went to breakfast. When we returned there was a message and we had 30 minutes to be packed and off. In the frenzy my wife packed her identification. I remember the police escorted bus ride to the airport only to sit all day. We did get a break to go eat at Margaritaville. Later that night we boarded a plane to Atlanta. Did I mention the part about my wife's ID? That little detail put us on the terrorist watch list on the flight home the next morning.

I am glad I read this.

On a previous thread, the subject had to do with the safety fire drill before departure. Some saying how boring it was and can we hurry this up.

This is why they do the emergency drill. To make sure that you will have the knowledge of what to do and how to do it.

Thank you Princess for taking the responsibility of your passenger seriously.

Again, thank you again drumline for sharing your experience! :)

Whenever I read one of those threads people are reminded of the Star fire.

I remember leaving the cabin when someone stuck his head out and asked what should he do. I waited about a minute. As the hallway filled with smoke I decided he was "on his own". Not a great attitude for me but appropriate.

What's frosts me are the ones who are sitting there reading their text message or texting. Or they're talking to the person next to them. This always gets me too and there's a few who do this: The ones who put their life jackets on after repeatedly being told not to. Most of the time it might be a language barrier. In that case I think these people are SOL if an evacuation does occur. They're the ones lugging their luggage behind them.

My fiance and I were on the Star Princess when it caught fire on Thursday morning. I would like to share my experience with this message board (this was our first cruise).

I see you've continued to cruise and are now platinum. But the unanswered question is, did you and your fiance get married?:)
