I got an email today saying "your ship is staying longer in Cozumel"

Yay! The email has my booking # and a link to the carnival website, which I followed. But my itinerary still says we are leaving Cozumel at 5pm. So misleading! I got all excited. I guess The Dream is staying longer in Cozumel, but not on my particular cruise?

Yea...Carnival recently announced that change on their Brand Ambassador's social media page. For me, I would not be happy because the ship's casino and shops will open late. But for people who want to stay ashore, it could be a good thing. I can usually do what I want to do in Cozumel in a few hours, so this would not be a good thing for me.

Guess it's up to you whether you like it.

We're booked for Nachi Cocom, but I thought it would be nice to go back to the ship, shower and change and then go back in the evening to Cozumel for dinner and shopping. Just something different.

I still get a kick out of this "Cozumel Plus" deal. Port stops were almost always longer years ago. Example: 8AM to Midnight in St. Thomas on Costa in 1985. Others, 8AM to 6PM.

Then some cruise lines figured: They can spend less time at the port, still sell sponsored shore excursions, get folks back on the ship early, so they can spend money on board, then go slower to the next port to save fuel $$$$.

So, I guess, what is old is new again. Except, now, they make it seem like this is something new!

Ever been to Playa del Carmen? It's not just Cozumel that folks want to see.

Ever been to Xel Ha? http://www.xelha.com/tulum-xelha-park.php

I guess it is really whether you have expanded your horizons in travel. :D

Wow this is very interesting to read, we didn't cruise back then so wasn't aware of the change. Thanks for that information, I love to read how things have evolved over the years whether for the good or bad, lol. It's always about how the cruise line can benefit that's for sure. Personally would love longer times in port and even nighttime hours would be different. I love the way the Bermuda itineraries are overnight stays to let you get that full vacation experience.
