Muster on the Anthem

Recommended Posts

You go to your assigned station (mine was at the Robot Bar). They make you watch a short video which is cartoon characters singing about cleanliness and hand washing, etc. No life jackets are carried to and from the muster. It's pretty painless.

Mine was in Music Hall. There were 2 videos one on cleaning hands the second went over lifejackets and how the lifeboats/rafts work. Be sure they scan your seapass card when you enter your assigned area. Lifejackets are not in your room so need to bring them, they have them in closets in every muster station.

Does anyone know what the Muster Drill is like on the Anthem? I've been on NCL where we just went to the main theater, and Carnival makes you go to the life boats. How is the process with RC?

All muster stations on the Anthem are inside. You will see your assigned spot on the back of your stateroom door.

Every one MUST attend the Muster drill, that's why your card is scanned. There is nowhere to hide. All cabins are checked, all pool lounge chairs, etc, they will escort you to your area if you are found roaming. If you are in medical, you will be given a private drill when you are well.

No one is hiding...haha. My younger son is staying in the grandparents room just thought he might want to be with me and his brothers, never mind he will just go with grandma to his designated muster station!

Mine was in one of the restaurants...can't recall which one. Funny thing though, with all that fancy technology, they couldn't get the muster drill video to work so they had a crew member up in front of us doing it the "old fashioned" way!:D

We were in American Icon in February. The video ran but there was no audio. The next night we got caught in the storm. Maybe I should have known the trip was jinxed from the beginning, LOL.

I've been wondering about this for a while, so I decided to just put it out there- possibly asking a stupid question or asking something that may have been asked and responded to several other times...

From a safety perspective, isn't it safer to have these in the cabin?

If everyone runs to the station (and some will panic), getting to the lifejackets will be difficult. Add to that, there is a possibility of a fire, which would prevent you from getting to your muster station if the fire is in that area of the ship, and then what do you do? I guess you could argue that if the fire were in the area of your cabin, what do you do, but in that scenario, it is possible that you're in your cabin and if you can't get out, you may be able to get out through your balcony (no, not overboard, but to the adjoining balconies, and then ultimately to another part of the ship).

I think we were on the same cruise....the "Cruise to Nowhere"? We booked our "do over" cruise for next Feb....same cruise, same ship, same month, different year.

On a cruise you are more likely not to be in your cabin (except for the early morning hours) and if there is an emergency you should go directly to your station not to your cabin. I believe on the Costa Concordia a few people ran into trouble trying to get to their cabins for life jackets and personal items.

A lifejacket should not be worn below deck, if a space is flooded it could prevent you from diving through a submerged opening to safety.

Fire is the greatest threat to a ship, but new SOLAS requirements on combustible building materials (i.e. no more wood decks), fire doors and fire suppression systems should hopefully prevent most needs to abandon ship due to fire - you may spend several hours at your muster station while the situation is brought under control so the lounges where there are seats is a good benefit.
