It's very easy. There have been numerous discussions of the possible options from Naples port -- including local trains, an express bus, fixed-rate taxi and private tours. If you need more specific information, don't hesitate to ask.

Getting to Pompeii is easy. However touring the ruins can be a challenge as they are huge and quite busy. If you plan to do it oyo do some research in advance, have a plan of attack and make sure to have a good guide either book or audio. Otherwise you might want to find a guided tour at the site.

From Naples port , how close is the railway station and express bus stop and at Pompeii side how close are you dropped off either by bus or train?

Across from the port is the local tram which will take you directly to the train station for the Circumvesuviana. This is the commuter train between Naples and Sorrento and is what you want, not trenitalia. In Pompeii it drops you right at the ruins. You can buy your ticket at the tobacconist on the corner. Suggest you buy the return at the same time. Remember to validate your ticket as you get onto the train or tram for the first time.

The bus stop at Piazza Immacolatella is one-third of a mile from the cruise port, within the port area.

The Porta Nolana train station, the terminus for the Circumvesuviana train, is one and a quarter miles from the cruise port. As noted above you can use the #1 tram in the street in front of the port. Be sure you get on the #1 as the #4 also uses this station but it doesn't go where you need.

You can purchase one ticket to cover both the tram and the train, assuming that the newsstand on the corner (or the tourist info booth at the port) have it for sale. The ticket is an NA-3 Integrato and it costs €3,20. If they don't have it you'll need to buy one ticket for the tram (Unico Napoli Aziendale, €1) and another for the train (NA-3 Aziendale, €2,60).

For the bus you only need the NA-3 Aziendale, €2,60. There is a ticket booth at Piazza Immacolatella where you can buy the bus ticket.

A more expensive but significantly more comfortable train option is the Campania Express. It only has a few runs each day but if the timing works for you it really is the best alternative: http://www.eavsrl.it/web/it/content/campania-express-2016-1

Wow enjoy. We are very excited for our Harmony cruise. Can't believe this time last year we where on Explorer in the med - in that heat!! Our eldest daughter is expecting a baby so we are going to be grandparents in the next week. A lot happens in a year!

We are going to do Pompeii and Sorrento D.I.Y using the ferry and trains when we dock in Naples.

Toms port guides has some fab info.

Take care x
