rescueranger Posted June 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2016 For all you lucky cruisers who have sailed on the Koningsdam: Is the Mariner discount applicable to the new dining venues Sel de Mer, Dinner at Culinary Arts Center, Grand Dutch Cafe? Holland America web site does not mention these new dining venues under the Mariner Society benefits.
blizzardboy Posted June 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2016 For all you lucky cruisers who have sailed on the Koningsdam:Is the Mariner discount applicable to the new dining venues Sel de Mer, Dinner at Culinary Arts Center, Grand Dutch Cafe? Holland America web site does not mention these new dining venues under the Mariner Society benefits. On the HAL site it says for 4-Star, "A 50% discount on specialty restaurant surcharges, wine packages*, beverages in the Explorations Café* and all mini-bar purchases*". All the applicable star levels say the same thing except for the discount percentage. Specialty Dining is any dining you pay extra for. You should be good. blizzardboy Posted June 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2016 Not good at the Dutch Cafe. I didn't really consider it a "dining" venue. Coffee, beer, and snacks?
rescueranger Posted June 27, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted June 27, 2016 I would have thought that the Mariner discount as it applies to the Exploration Cafe would apply at the Grand Dutch Cafe for non-alcoholic drinks.

So would I. I'm not seeing any substantive difference between Explorations Café and the Grand Dutch Café.

rescueranger Posted June 29, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted June 29, 2016 Contacted Mariner Society and got this response, "Thank you for your recent correspondence with Holland America Line regarding our Mariner Society Rewards Program and the benefits as it pertains to our 5 Star Mariners and the newest ship, the Koningsdam. The Koningsdam has additional restaurants and dining venues that will receive the appropriate Star level discounts. These include the Sel de Mar, Dutch Cafe & Farm to Table. The discount is also applicable to The Dutch Cafe. We will continue to work towards making this information readily available for our guests on the Holland America Line website. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope the above information is useful."

Boytjie Posted June 29, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2016 Apparently the operative words are: "... will receive..." Future tense. I don't read it that way at all... you visit these venues and you will receive the discount. (Not me, I am merely **).
dmcfad2 Posted June 29, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) I am 4 star and we didn't get the discount in the Dutch Cafe. :( Maybe it's only for 5 star?? Edited June 29, 2016 by dmcfad2
rescueranger Posted June 29, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted June 29, 2016 The response from HAL Mariner Society is that Mariners would receive "appropriate Star level discounts." Therefore 3 Star should get 25% and 4/5 Star get 50%. Either Koningsdam or Holland America Mariner Society is unaware of the exact policy regarding Grand Dutch Cafe non-alcoholic beverage purchases. colonialinnkeeper Posted June 30, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 30, 2016 Certainly hope it applies to the Dutch Cafe as well. From the wording, I would assume it does.
blizzardboy Posted June 30, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 30, 2016 I haven't read all the posts so this may be redundant. Email the Mariner Society. They can pull up your shipboard account and make adjustments.
rim140 Posted October 28, 2016 #17 Share Posted October 28, 2016 We just booked 11/13/16 cruise on Koningsdam. Anyone know whether the mariner discount applies if I book the speciality restaurants online before the cruise? Or is it only for onboard bookings? I am a 4 star mariner. gigianne Posted October 28, 2016 #18 Share Posted October 28, 2016 You will pay full price f you book before the cruise. The % that you get off because of your star status will be credited to your onboard account as soon as you embark.

Just to clarify, there are specialty dinners with major surcharges where the mariner discount does not apply such as Master Chef Table, Cellar Master Dinner, etc. Agreee. OP should be fine with the regular ones.. The FAQS page on the HAL site used to spell it out very well until it was recently changed. When we were on the K this summer I was charged for each coffee. When I asked about the Mariner discount I was told that it only applied in the Explorations Cafe.
