Getting off early

There were over 200 people getting off early in LeHavre from my cruise. People do it all the time. Your TA should write a letter to Princess and request your early disembarkation. Only snag would be if the ship doesn't stop there (and it has done that once in awhile). Have a Plan B just in case. ;)

Very negative response to an honest question . In fact I have been on three recent European cruises with Princess where at least 1 couple or more has arranged to leave early without difficulty. On the Baltics in Norway, as above in La Havre and last month on the med where people left early in Livorno with the intent to continue on in Florence .

In the US passengers are refused early departure if that action would violate the PVSA but that is a non issue in the rest of the world.

To the OP, do arrange things well in advance as there is paperwork so it is not something you can do as a spur of the moment adventure.

Actually this applies to cruises out of Australia too..... a foreign port has to be visited in order to comply.... was on Celebrity Solstice earlier this year where a stop in Bali was cancelled and we had to circumnavigate Willis Island in order to comply. Pics in blog in sig below.

Actually in Australia that would be to qualify for duty (tax) free purchases.

Really? That wasn't the impression we were given on board..... must have come at huge expense although that opinion was definitely discussed by the passengers..... took a whole day..... ;)

Really.

We have cruises here all the time from one city to another that don't visit a foreign port.

But picture people have spent up on board, maybe even before they leave, suddenly the cruise doesn't qualify for duty free, the line has to pay 10% GST on all sales, plus have hundreds of angry customers who now have to pay GST (Vat) of 10% on their new Camera, watch perfume etc that they bought before leaving home. A truck load of money at stake.

Then there is a question mark that the cruise fare itself MAY now be subject to that same 10% GST (I've never looked at this question in detail) and you are talking probably millions of dollars. It MAY also impact on any GST the line needs to pay on provisions, again some say yea some say nay and I haven't bothered to study the legislation in detail.

This was a very honest answer. The OP will not know the answer without contacting Princess. The world is changing and things that formally had been no problem can be an issue today. This would be especially true with a country so recently visted by Terror.

OP no matter what posters on CC tell you contact Princess for your answer and have a back up plan just in case!

It is not uncommon for crew, entertainers and other operational staff to get on and off at various ports throughout a ship's voyage so most all ports customs and immigration are well established to handle this and this could include early disembarkation passengers. However, you need to set this up with the cruise line in advance so they can properly handle the paper work. In some tendered ports and for other various logistical reasons or if it violates (like PSVA) laws early disembarkation isn't feasible except in cases of medical or other emergencies.
