BEENSAILING Posted July 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2016 Can anyone with real answers - (not theory or guesses please) answer these two questions: It was my understanding there are DVD players in the Grande Suites on Explorer. I just called C&A and was told no DVD players - there are VHS players. Anyone have an answer? Also it was my understanding the Concierge is supposed to help suite guests get off first in ports and for tenders. Taking people down directly ... yes? no? Clarea Posted July 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2016 It's my guess that you will have to speak to the concierge to learn their policy on escorting suite guests.

Mark_K Posted July 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) According to Ask Adam Blog, September 2012, all suites except Oasis and Allure had DVDs players: Hi Adam, I have gone on 14 cruises with Royal Caribbean and enjoy cruising with you very much. I have stayed in a range of rooms, including a small room all the way to the Aqua Suite onboard Oasis of the Seas, usually with my youngest granddaughter. She enjoys watching movies in the room when her parents are doing other things. My question is why don’t you have a DVD player in the suites? Since we pay a good price for these rooms for the space and convenience, it would be really nice if there was something small children could be entertained with in the room. This would really help a lot. Thanks – Virginia V. Hi Virginia, currently all suites across the fleet have DVD players with the exception of the Oasis & Allure of the Seas. We will make sure to pass your suggestion along for these two ships. From my experience, the escorting is somewhat of a "phantom" benefit, they may have it, but it's so difficult to arrange, it's easier not to bother. spookwife Posted July 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2016 VHS?! Bwahahah. Yes they are DVD players but bring your own entertainment. The selection available on board is iffy. The concierge escort is usually limited to the final disembark and will be done in shifts or stages( not everyone fits into the elevators at once). Rarely do they have the time to personally escort people at any other time( this does not include the suites that have genies)
carefree lady Posted July 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2016 This cabin is on the hump but oddly shaped. Does anyone have an opinion about it?
Argana Posted July 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) I was in a GS on Indy in April, and they didn't have a DVD player, but they did have movie rentals you order through your tv that are free for suite guests. My sons watched The Good Dinosaur every night before bed. It showed up on our room charge, but the concierge just credited it for us the last night. A good work-around, IMO. :)

Also it was my understanding the Concierge is supposed to help suite guests get off first in ports and for tenders. Taking people down directly ... yes? no? On the Explorer from Singapore to Perth Australia there were DVD players in the Grand Suites, however they weren't much use to us Aussies as they weren't multi-regional so the DVD's we brought with us wouldn't play. However, the good news is Denzil the concierge on that cruise had a cupboard full of DVD's available to borrow in the concierge lounge. Denzil did indeed tell suite guests to come to the concierge lounge before docking and he took us down to the deck to disembark. But, things change so I suggest you email the concierge, I had the email address, but don't any more, but I found it on cruise critic so you should be able to find it using the search option. Oops, forgot to say that was in November 2015. From my experiences, you get more correct information asking recent cruisers on cruise critic than you do ringing Royal Caribbean!
