So glad to hear you have been made whole.

And KUDOS to you for your calm and measured response to "why would you" ers!

I didn't even see a reason listed that he did it in the first place other than they like using cash.

They told you to expect a refund, you get a check, and it is unexpected? Come on. I'm not defending any company holding on to someones money and using the float, but buying OBC and not knowing the method how you'd be refunded the difference is on you, not them. Glad it got resolved, but next time keep your money as yours and don't go having to chase it around.

It was unexpected, not because it was a check, but because our TA had talked to MSC (again) the day before, and he was told (again) that they didn't know when a refund would be forthcoming. Thanks for the suggestions.

Thank goodness for an understanding voice (yours), and for not making assumptions. And, I'm grateful for your kindness.

It's ok. It's not worth arguing over. I learned long ago that folks will be the way they are.

MSC does have a problem with refunds. We cancelled a cruise in May with them and it took a few calls including asking for a supervisor to get our deposit back. All in all it took 3 weeks. I've cancelled numerous cruises with other lines and usually have my deposit back with a credit on my credit card in 2 days.

It does leave a bad taste in your mouth, there is no reason at all to take that long with a refund on your credit card.

MSC needs to correct this policy ASAP if they want to build a loyal following here in the states.

You are correct , it does take them too long to issue a refund but it's because there bank is in Italy and it takes a while.

If in the States you get your deposit back before final payment if you cancel that will explain how all of a sudden loads of cabins become available in the last few weeks before departure date?

I don't care if their bank is on the moon, in these days of electronic transactions there is no way that the refunds should be as slow as they are.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not sure I understand what is going on here.

Did a week on Poesia last November and once one board used the terminals to transfer funds with my debit card tomy onboard account.

On the last day there was around 50 Euro's left so I attended guest services and they paid this over in cash.

Has the procedure changed as we are due on again this coming November.

FYI: Although this may not be what happened here, there are 2 types of OBC: refundable and non-refundable. It behooves us to check when on board esp. when issued by 3rd parties...

Also, the casino-cash-out has always worked for me regardless, because of their desire for you to invest in unregulated (unlike US casinos) slot machines.

Live and learn;)
