63galaxie Posted August 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) We sailed on Divina on July 16th, five weeks ago. Prior to sailing we paid $650 through MSCs website for onboard credit to be put on our account. We used some of it to pay tips and to buy some extras onboard. We expected to receive the remaining balance back from MSC on the last day of the cruise. We were told by Guest Services that our travel agent would have to request the money back from MSC once we debarked. Our travel agent has contacted MSC twice in the last six weeks and was told that our $475 would be returned in nine days! We are still waiting. I've left word for our TA on Wed, Thursday, and today but I have not heard back. MSC won't talk to me. Any suggestions? 63galaxie Posted August 26, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted August 26, 2016 They told my TA it would take nine days, so five weeks seems like a very very long time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

A friend cancelled a May cruise and it took her six weeks to get a refund, while my refund came through in about a week. I see on MSC's Facebook page that they monitor it and respond. You may want to post your message on this page and see if you get a satisfactory response. Good luck!
tomvet Posted August 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 31, 2016 Why would you buy OBC? I can accept somebody putting money in one's account as a gift. But the buy it for yourself, I cannot see one advantage only to give the cruiseline use of your money unless they give free credit for money lodged. Maybe people are betting on currency fluctuations>:rolleyes: Why not put the money into your credit card account and have it there when the bill comes through. At least you still retain control of your own money.

resistk Posted September 1, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2016 So very true. You are defending the undefensible, a big corp stealing money? Other cruise lines do issue timely refunds. MSC is Italian so they get a free pass?

At least you still retain control of your own money. There are some very good reason for us. We like to use cash only on vacations if possible. We've always had our unused funds returned by every other cruise line. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
63galaxie Posted September 15, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted September 15, 2016 I don't get it as well. People love to create problems to themselves  That remark was very rude. You don't know us, nor do you know why we do what we do. Rest assured, we didn't create the problem, the cruise line did. Nor did we "love creating problems." 63galaxie Posted September 15, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted September 15, 2016 So very true. This may be true for others, but not for us. We prefer to pay cash whenever possible while traveling. It's never been an issue with any other cruise line, and we've sailed on several. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

CarolnLarry Posted September 15, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 15, 2016 We just got off the Divina and even though all transactions are in dollars they charged us a foreign transaction fee on our credit card charges. Cash is King..
Rare Cruisergal1208 Posted September 15, 2016 #19 Share Posted September 15, 2016 We have always used a credit card to settle account and not incurred a foreign transaction fee.
cruiseguyinorl Posted September 15, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 15, 2016 they charged us a foreign transaction fee Make sure you understand that the "they" was the bank that issued your credit card not MSC. MSC gets blamed for enough without that too. ;) There are many posts on here trying to tell people to check with their bank to see which of their cards doesn't incur the fee as all onboard charges on the Divina go through a foreign bank. JVilleGal Posted September 16, 2016 #21 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Have you checked with the credit card you used to buy the credit. Chances are the funds have already been refunded to the account you used to purchase the OBC with?? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare LMaxwell Posted September 16, 2016 #25 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Unexpectedly, we received a refund check in the mail from MSC. Sent from my iPhone using Forums They told you to expect a refund, you get a check, and it is unexpected? Come on. I'm not defending any company holding on to someones money and using the float, but buying OBC and not knowing the method how you'd be refunded the difference is on you, not them. Glad it got resolved, but next time keep your money as yours and don't go having to chase it around.
