MSC Casino question

Hi all.

Quick question on the casino on Fantasia (possibly the same for all MSC) if anyone could enlighten please.

We are sailing on Fantasia shortly and my wife does like to invest a few dollars (or indeed Euros) into the slot machines.

My question, if you could assist, is this: how do you 'pay' for your spins on MSC? I ask this for on previous cruises we have popped in our cruise-card, 'invested' our cash , and played the machine. With the cost being applied to our onboard account. Normally ending with discussions later on how close we got to 'the big one' :D. However, on our last cruise (Celebrity) we had to insert dollar bills, which, being a European cruise, were in somewhat short supply . USD were availiable at the cash-desk - for a 5% 'fee'

So, do I need a wad of Euros? Or can I be content that our cruise-card will suffice?

Many thanks.

I'd also be interested, I play black jack and usually sail NCL and I know I need dollars whether I'm in Europe or not

If you're playing table games you can just use your ship card to get whichever currency they use on the ship.

On the Divina they did not charge a fee/commission for that.

Does MSC have a "casino at sea" program like NCL does where you can get comped rooms and benefits depending on how much you play?

Not in the same way, no.

You may get some things comped on the cruise, drinks, dinner etc. But, They don't keep any record beyond that cruise.

Also doesn't seem very structured, just the more of a rapport you have with a pit boss the less of a hassle it is to get drinks.

At the end of the cruise you can use your points to buy some stuff in the casino shop ( baseball caps etc ).

On the last night the casino host gave us a letter with a 30% discount on a future cruise. Which I was able to apply to an already booked 2 week cruise.

He seemed to have quite a few envelopes ready so you should be able to get that if you play.

Thanks! At least that's something.

Hi again. Thanks for all the input, but I think we've gone off-question a bit: comped rooms, free drinks and baseball-caps? I'll go to Vegas for those thanks :D

The question essentially was: can I insert my cruise card into a slot-machine and play? Or do I need cash (if so, which currency please? Anyone played the slots on MSC who can assist please?

Thanks again,

Kernel

I played slots a few nights on the Splendida last month - only Wheel of Fortune because the bonus rounds were fun. I THINK I just put in my cruise card but I can not be 100% sure now. I took pictures and videos of the screen but it was during the bonus rounds and the actual payment slots were not in frame.

But once you cash out, you get a voucher just like you do in Vegas. You just insert the voucher in the slot machine the next time you played. It was in Euros. I was up I think 60 Euros with 2 nights left and I took the voucher to the cashier and got cash back in Euros.

What kind of level of play are we talking to get something? I am just a casual player. No big stakes. I thought I read somewhere that they have some free play coupons too?

I'm not sure. I did about 50 hours of blackjack on that 7 day cruise.

Usually at the 10 dollar minimum table, bets up to about 100.

Thanks everyone!

I think chinita415 came closest to the answer, so she wins the prize (can't tell you all what it is as you'll all be after one!), ;p

1fifthavenue came a close 2nd, so only comp rooms and baseball cap for that I guess....:beer-toast:

Conclusion?

Once anyone plays the slots, the flashing lights, the bells, toots and hoots, along with the highly watchable videos mesmerise us. We are all hypnotised. Oblivious to all and everything. Once done with playing an imbedded program kicks in that removes all memory of the time spent playing. It can be the only conclusion :'). Don't you agree?

I thank you all dearly x

If however anyone was wearing an aluminum hat and dark glasses (to prevent the aforesaid brainwashing) during play, please feel free, anonymously of course (to prevent future cruise line banning) to tell me if I can put in my card and play the slots (I, obviously, do take the necessary head/eye precautions :D:D:D)

I promise I will keep it a secret.

Best regards,

(dark glasses) Kernel x

Lol!!! I have a video of the Wheel of Fortune bonus rounds that I have been trying to upload but it's not letting me. Oh well.

There were only 2 and I was only able to play it for 3 nights.

The casino is very smoky and even just waiting a few minutes to see if someone will get off the machine was enough to make my hair smell. On the Splendida, the theater dumps to the casino so we would hang out there for a bit after the show.

I got totally hooked on these fun slots with bonus rounds in Vegas (Lord of the Ring, Willy Wonka) but haven't seen anything on cruises until this trip.

Have fun and cash out while you are ahead!

I'm on Divina in May and I'm pretty sure the guy from MSC said it was smoke free. Do people in other parts of the world smoke more than Americans? I live in Ohio and smoking is banned in every inside public place. It is kind of odd that on some ships they have different policies.

Half of the casino on Splendida was smoke free. But the smoke from the other side made it through. The slot machine I played was in the smoking area so lots of folks just camped out smoking and not playing.

Oh yea.. Europeans (or at least the Italians and others on Splendida last month) smoke a lot more than Californians. Not sure what the mix is on Davina.

Smoking is banned in all public inside spaces here in the U.K. too, so for many ships sailing from a U.K. port smoking is not allowed indoors either. Many European countries have smoking banned from many if not all public indoor places

From MSC website: We’ve made it easier than ever to have the best experience in our onboard casinos. Here’s how:

•Your Cruise Card is also your casino player’s card. Insert it into the slot machine to start play and for the tables, just hand it to the dealer before every session on play.

•Our Casino Hosts are experts at introducing you to all the games that we.

I don't know about the tables but I'll "bet" it's cash.

We use the Chase ATM and credit card and they do NOT charge a foreign transaction fee plus I get paid back for any fee the atm charges! In my opinion it's the best card to have in your wallet!

  • 6 years later...

i spend several thousand dollars at the casino and I received 21000 points. I received a two persons complementary free vacation to Anyware I wanted to go, and it also expires in January 2025. But now, when I tried to use the Certificate, MSC is charging me as much as $400.00 to 1200.00 for seven days vacations? MS Casino a complementary cruise for two any of their many destinations for free, and the offer is good from Balcony Stateroom Belle Experience+ But now MSC is asking me to pay after I spend many thousands of dollars? I am very sorry for my mistakes to spend so much money for nothing in believing in their empty words. Remember that cruise "MSC" BS!

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Try avoid bumping very old threads since the information is out of date. If you would like to start your own thread, you can.

Your $400 deposit will be given back to you as non-refundable OBC on the ship. Before you slam the cruise line, maybe you should have read the terms and conditions of the trip.
