Grandeur of the Seas Solo review - March 18-27 - Cabin 3552 Video

Recommended Posts

I went solo a couple weeks back on the 2/28 cruise. I can't believe you missed Cococay too. I was a little bummed, but at least you got to to go Nassau. We spent the night there instead and left for Baltimore at noon the next day.

I was wondering, did you have any issues at Freeport with the cabs? I felt a little put off at the port when the cabbies would ignore me because I was solo and not with a group. I also noticed that the cabs were mostly vans and they were trying to fill the vans with groups.

You know, I did not leave the port, but I know what you mean. Those guys would fly pass me to get to a group!! They consider 1 person a pain for them. I can understand that they have to make a living, but don't bite the hand that might feed you. But this is in Nassau also, not just Freeport. I think it's just about making the most money in the shortest time. I understand.

Thanks for your review. I watched your video and I have to say I love your voice! It is very mellow and relaxing, you could do books on tape!

Thanks so much, but my voice changed after my left vocal cord was paralyzed after surgery. I've had others say that. I feel like I have to explain to people that I don't have a cold! :)

Day 7...Nassau continued...

I woke up to the Disney Magic docking, followed by Carnival Liberty. Both of those ships are ships I've cruised on, and it was good to see old ship friends!

My room service breakfast had 6 slices of bacon. This was 1 order, so note that there is enough bacon for two.

I was on a mission today to check out that big, blue yacht parked at the pier over by the other ships. I love to research yachts. I think I was rich in another life, and owned one! Anyway, I found out it is a Lurssen Yacht named Solange, sold yesterday to someone in Greece.

Nice yacht! I was hoping you might tow it back home, park it in Inner Harbor, and share it with your CC friends!

Day 7 cont....

I did not leave the port area this day. I basically hung out at the pier. It was very windy, but it felt great to get the breezes.

I got a sprite in my aluminum cup, which I still have ice in this morning at 10:30. I fill it with ice, and pour the soda from my RC cup into it. Buy one if you don't have one. I am still able to take my med this morning with ice cold water.(soda long gone)

The Tango Bueno Aires show was awesome! They had dancers from Argentina Carolina & Gabriel. Do not miss this 3rd production show. I personally think they should make this the 2nd show, because the waters were very choppy last night, and they have intricate steps in their dances. They did wonderful with all that movement.

I went to the 70s party after that, and have a light up ring!! I didn't stay because I was not feeling well.

Note before I end: Many people talk about not being able to fit their luggage under the beds! I have a huge piece with me that would not fit. The easy thing to do is open it, lay it flat, and slide it easily under the bed! Easy-Peasy!! No need to store it behind the sofa, etc. Just upen it flat. Good night

Great idea Gloria. Thanks for the tip.

I imagine you're using the ship package, Vroom and Streaming. If you are, it seems to do a great job.

Will be looking out the window of our hotel to see your arrival. Then it's our turn. Take care.

Yes, e Vroom and Streaming is working very well. I have been showing my DH and children around the ship via FaceTime! The only problem I'm having is that I have to use my phone AND my iPad. Everyone has iPhones except me, so I have to FT them with my iPad. It's still fine. Got to see some pictures from my youngest grandson's baseball game this afternoon.

NOOOOO.... I'm not leaving, sorry!

You will have a great time. The Cruise Director Paul had me cracking up today at the "Sexiest Man Contest!"

I'm getting ready for my 7:30 MT dining. I have a couple of things planned tonight. I will report on them later.

Gloria: doing a great job. Excited to board Lady "G" Monday. Say hi to Reeve for me.

Who is your wait staff? We have MTD also. We had Taniesha who was great and of course my favorite Carlos.

Just read about your M & M. Can you do me a favor and ask at the desk for ours next week. I would be most appreciative. Don't want that to happen to us.

You asked about the wait staff. It is 2 guys named Dejkn and Herman. I hope I spelled that first one correctly, because I had him put their names on my extra tip envelopes. I will give it to them tonight, because I'm not sure I will make it there tomorrow, and I want to show my appreciation for the great service. No tip envelopes are left at the cabin, but I just went to the front desk yesterday and asked for them.

Day 8 cont.... Sea Day at night. Dinner was formal night, and it was wonderful. I had the Salmon plate, but asked for a single lobster also. Their lobster was so tender!! I took a picture with my awesome servers, and I will post them later. I got my banana split for the last time! I gave them each their extra tip envelopes. After saying my goodbyes to everyone, I went thru the casino on the was to the show, and stopped! I lost $25!! YIKES, I'm so done with them!! :)

The show was pretty good in the Palladium Lounge. I High-tailed it to the back of the ship on deck 6 to the South Pacific Loung, where the Quest Adult Game Show was starting at 10:15. Being solo, I can always find a single seat close to the front at all of the shows I attended. Can I tell you I was crying laughing so hard! I have never seen such frenzy ever! I wish I could tell you some of the hilarious things that happened, but I don't want to spoil it for you future cruisers. Please don't miss it, unless you are easily offended! I also took a picture with the Cruise Director, Paul. He is a very nice, down-to-earth man. He looks older than most of the CDs I've cruised with on CCL, but he is a very distinguished looking gentleman. In other works, "He's a cutie!" :D

I was so exhausted from all the excitement at that Quest show, I was ready to head to my cabin.

Day 9...Last Sea Day

I got up at about 9 and decided to pack. I don't like to wait and rush at the last minute, especially since my DH is not with me to move my heavy bags. I have left my clothes for tomorrow morning, with my jacket hanging.

I will grab some food in the Windjammer, because I don't want to dress for the dining room. Then too, I might just put on my pants and see the guys one more time!

I'm on the Pool deck right now writing this review. It's nice and warm, and the waters are nice and calm. It's a little overcast, but still very nice.

At 2pm, I'm going to the Palladium Lounge to see the movie Jack Reacher, Never go Back.

There will only be one Farewell Show tonight at 7pm. I will be able to enjoy the late night comedy show at 10:15.

There is another movie called Moana that will be playing at 8pm tonight. What I like about the layout here is that the movies are in the Palladium Lounge, and not on the big screen. There is no one talking, and you can hear and see the movie so much better.

Well, I'm going to go look at some pictures. I'm thinking about buying the DVD.

BTW...My bill is less than $50! Everything was paid already, and except for tips at Chops and Margianos, I only brought 2 mugs! I am very frugal, and don't buy things just to buy them. I didn't need ship pictures. I don't drink, and brought the soda package in advance. Well, I'm going to see how much this DVD is. Have a great day everyone.

Cruzaholic...I'm bringing it on in for ya! :D

Yeah! Checked into hotel in Baltimore just waiting for your arrival. Pride is going out today, nice ship.

Still can't attach pix. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

NO...NO...NO...I changed my mind. I'm marching up there and telling the captain we need 9 more days! :D

We saw the Pride docked at one of our ports. Back when I last cruised out of Baltimore was on the Paradise, which was a smoke-free ship of Carnival back in 2002. I've never cruised the Pride.

I'm sitting on deck 6, outside of the photo gallery. I did buy the DVD. It was $29.99.

The Ben and Jerrys has free desserts that I don't see in the Windjammer. I got a strawberry lemon tart that is to die for. The cheesecake pops are great also. They have lots of other treats there that look delicious. At first I thought they were for sale, but they are not. I think most people think this also, because they look, but keep going. The soda machine was working today and yesterday here on 6, but it has no ice!

Well, I'm going to make my way to the movie in a few.

Thank you so much for your review! I have never been on the Grandeur, but we are going on her 5/18/17. My husband, daughters and I have the ocean view cabin on deck 3 also and you have given me great insight into the layout. Thanks for sharing and for your awesome tips. Enjoy the last evening!

Day 9 cont...Last Sea day

Being that I already packed, my day was free. Halfway thru the 2pm movie, they were having a "win-a-cruise" bingo game at 3. Yes, I went, and no, I did not win! :( The cost is $33 or something like that. You get 3 games. The first 2 are for money, ( under $300) and the last is for the cruise. Let me tell you, I have never been to a slower bingo game in my life!! The guy was so slow between numbers that I got irritated, and I was not alone! Real bingo players know what I mean. Move it along, no time for playing around with fake bingo calls, etc. This is about $$$ and a cruise, so don't play silly with us! Pack your patience, because these 3 regular games took about 90 minutes! No, there was not a cover-all, just regular games! If it had been a cover-all, we would still be there! :)

Walking out pass the Schooner Bar, I saw the last unite of that basketball game! Very excited, even though I know nothing about who was playing, etc.

I went to pick up my DVD, and shopped around a little. On this last day is when they brought out $10 trinkets! I found the cutest $10 watch, with a bangle hinge-style band! This is what I needed all cruise, because I left my watch at home. I don't know why they did it this way. On the Allure, I believe they brought their cheap stuff out early.

I went back to my cabin and showered and changed again. I packed the Capri and t-shirt into the luggage. I then put on my pants and sweater that I will be wearing off the ship. Everything is packed away except a thin night gown, footie socks, and my toiletries. All this will fit into my carry on. Declaration card filled out, and in the safe with my $$ and passport.

I decided to go back to the dining room after all, because I just did not feel like lugging around food in the Windjammer! I was too exhausted from bingo! Lol.

I had a really nice time with all of the guys from dinner. They were not expecting me, and were very happy to see me again. I had steak and baked potato, which was very good. I topped it off with my last banana split. More pictures, and final goodbye.

Back to the Centrum to hear Nexus 4 for the last time.

I then made my way to the Solarium, and let me tell you, what a nice place to go to end your cruise! It was nice and quiet, not too many people, and I got to see the lights from the Norfolk tunnel as we passed! I stretched out on one of the loungers, and just relaxed. It was nice and warm there, with no strong wind. You must go there at night, especially the last night. I then walked out past the pool area to the front elevators near the Windjammer. It was freezing out there! There was a couple in the pool. YIKES!!

Time to go set out my bags at about 10pm. You have from 7-11pm to set them out. Tip: for a free baggage locator, take a small grocery bag with you, fold it thin, and tie it to your handle. You will spot your bag right away!

I'm waiting for my final bill. It's under $150 for sure. Something about me. I don't believe in making massive credit card bills for fun. When I go on a vacation, it is with money I have saved. I charge it all, and pay it right back before it acrues interest. I save my cards for things like a roof we just had put on our home. I will move my money from my savings account to pay this small bill off.

So now I'm ready to be picked up by my DH, and I'm back to cooking, cleaning, and just enjoying my much needed retirement life! Enjoy your cruise, I did!
