Rare ski ww Posted June 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2017 How bad are the mosquitos in the bush this time of year? I know it's been kind of cool up there so far & there are still lots of rainy days so wondering if the bugs are out in full force yet? cruiseguy1016 Posted June 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2017 We were in Fairbanks, Healy, Talkeetna and Anchorage the first week of June. If we were "in town", we hardly saw any. The minute we stepped into the woods or on a nature trail, they were thick!
Rare ski ww Posted June 25, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted June 25, 2017 So the trick is lots of bug spray, no shorts, in the bush. Met a gentleman in HMC on your last cruise who used to live in Alaska & something he used when in the bush was a bounce sheet in his hat, said it worked great keeping the bugs away. Mitch2016 Posted June 25, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2017 When we were doing things during the day in town or if there was a breeze, they weren't bad at all. But...the minute you stood still if it wasn't breezy then they would get ya. They are stealthy and big Land on ya, and you wouldn't even know it. When were were heading up to Carcross out of Skagway, we stopped to use restroom one place (glorified outhouse) and the bugs, not necessarily the mosquitos would just swarm around ya...get in your face etc.... It's all worth it though.....the beauty trumps the bugs. One good thing to note Alaska doesn't have ticks, fleas or snakes!! :)
Budget Queen Posted June 25, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 25, 2017 Unbelievably out in full force with my recent trip. :) (along with several other "bad" biting bugs)
