Brookefairway Posted July 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Is this cabin due to its proximity on deck 14 and the smoke stack get a lot more vibration and smoke?

BayouDoc Posted July 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2017 We sailed in the GV on sister ship Dawn. No vibration or smoke. You are on the top of the ship so in rough weather the motion may be a little greater. Other than that, it's like you have a 96,000 ton private yacht. It was a great experience but with price increases over the last 2 years I'll not repeat it.
chloemonkey Posted July 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2017 Is this cabin due to its proximity on deck 14 and the smoke stack get a lot more vibration and smoke? We have had both Garden Villas 4 times now and did not notice any vibrations from the smoke stack. As one other poster mentioned, you ARE up pretty high....so may feel just a "bit" more sway in rougher weather... Small price to pay for the amazing accommodations! We have both booked on the Pearl for Alaska....but they do NOT connect as do the ones on the Star.
don't-use-real-name Posted July 28, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2017 What coal fired engines fired with dirty sooty coal !!! - No way. Smoke stacks on the Dawn and the Star are not smoking stacks. These are exhaust ventilators and are positioned well aft of the GV cabins. Note on the deck plans GVs are forward of the basket ball courts and the ventilation stacks are after that. Also note the both the Star and Dawn are propelled by azipods and not shaft driven props. The only real noticeable vibration if any will be from the thrusters positioning the ship up to and away from piers. I have been a guest of the tenants of the GVs and the quiet is awesome and the seas have to be really rough to have a noticeable effect on one's movement about the cabin. Have a couple of drinks - it is going to be a rough time tonight honey ! Oh and the grand piano does not sway and move about the cabin like the videos of some bigger ships ! Froggitt Posted July 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2017 There was a TV show in the UK recently that took one of those specialist cameras on a cruise ship. All sorts of invisible particulates were seen around the smoke stack, both in front and behind. More behind obviously. No way I am going to be book reading or similar downwind of that.
