amoody914 Posted August 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2017 Hey y'all! We're going to Grand Cayman for the first time next April and am not sure what we should plan to do. There are a few shore excursions through Carnival that we are considering, but normally shy away from doing them and instead doing stuff on our own. Our 2 kids will be with us (9 and 4) so we'd like to do something family friendly. Any thoughts or suggestions would be fabulous! Thanks! :D
OCruisers Posted August 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2017 A popular thing for first time folks to do in Grand Cayman is to take a stingray excursion. The children would enjoy it as well. Your ship will offer stingray excursions or you could do it with an independent. :)
Capt_BJ Posted August 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2017 https://www.turtle.ky/ Cayman Turtle Centre (formerly the Cayman Turtle Farm) is just right for your age group. Today this is mostly a zoo and water park. This will probably be offered as an excursion but it is easy to get there by taxi and buy your own tickets (note, that they still raise sea turtles for consumption. In the US we think this is bad as sea turtles are protected. In the islands they are a basic food source and raising them in a 'farm' is no different than commercially raising poultry, pork or beef. They DO release many and in so doing are helping to restore several species. But you will sea turtle burgers and turtle soup on menus in Cayman - depending on where you go - and turtle 'products' for sale. Last I checked the import of any of these items was still banned in the US. p.s. once had a memorable Thanksgiving <US> dinner in Cayman of turtle cordon bleu .... quite delicious)
cb at sea Posted August 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2017 What does your family enjoy? There are plenty of things...all are suitable for kids (except a bar crawl!)... Most kids love beaches, and that's easy enough to do on your own. Really, get a guidebook or google GC....either way, it's a VERY easy DIY port! Safe, and lots of public transportation. A bit of research is all it takes!
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2017 The family enjoyed the stingray excursion on our first visit. Another time we enjoyed the beach. Keith
southnam Posted September 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2017 I did sting ray wit kids 3,5,7 a few years ago. We used Nativeway so it was a smaller group which is better for small kids I think. Used them twice and both times great times.
